This “Peoples airport” narrative is getting ridiculous…..Any commercial operator would be going out to tender on this stuff and getting the best commercial deal…..Still it’s not their money they’re spending!

The lack of news on the lease is odd in isolation but given the way this has progressed not particularly surprising. Accept that we could hear positive news tomorrow, next week, next month or whenever but as Coppard quietly hinted at the dire lease terms in September last year, we’re getting close to at least ten months since the lease renegotiation had started! That’s assuming it didn’t start way before the hangar show piece in September. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that the more contentious lease terms are at a deadlock. Peel are not stupid as we all know, the council are on the beg here and Peel know this. If this international tobacco company rumour has any truth in it then it would suggest the council are going out to find anyone to take commercial space within the lease property to try to scrape some income together. I do wonder whether 2Excel are contributing or whether they’re agreement is with Peel.

There’s been a trickle of ‘positive’ news but it’s about meet the buyer events and buying clapped out domestic fire engines, pretty much zero on any momentum whatsoever. Perhaps this is intentional, for one reason or another. But I do believe they’ll be finally realising that the market they thought was there is actually pretty sparse and they’ll really struggle to get enough business to justify the public appetite for it.

Global first 🌍 We're proud to play host the the incredible Inside Out Project at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, brought to us by Right Up Our Street, Doncaster.

Inside Out is a global art movement, that seeks to place communities at the heart of their projects. To date, more than 3,000 ‘group actions’ have taken place in 154 countries around the world, involving >1m individuals. But this is the first installation to happen on an airport runway.

Our airport is rooted in the community, so to have the faces of 1,000 local young people be a part of the installation is a memorable moment for everyone involved. Throughout today, we'll be welcoming participants from the project through our gates to see this spectacular sight first-hand.

I can see the Turner Prize judges now, turning up to view the art piece on an empty tarmac canvas named ‘A Million Taxpayer Pounds £ Per Square Face’ or ‘Still Life No Departures’ or perhaps simply ‘FOD’ or something like that. Probably.

Yes, today’s leak is interesting and yet I see no mention of it on any of the usual suspects social media posts, they’d much gather promote the ‘people’s airport’ project of sticking faces on the runway. Seems when the loan was re-approved in May that they forgot to mention that this too was contingent on securing Gainshare. Oops.

I’ve not seen the news about a CEO though. Are you saying Damien Allen has slithered off somewhere else?

They would be correct. Dan Fell and Andy Offer (very much a conflict of interest there!) have been appointed as directors. There’s also a retired local government solicitor appointed to the board. Allen has officially slithered off to protect his public sector job, the council have appointed a couple of external fall guys. Possibly a perfect storm what with Grant Thornton reportedly auditing the airport as we speak.

Dan Fell is listed as a Director of Fly Doncaster on the Company House site……As you say he has virtually zero commercial experience in the real world and absolutely none in aviation…..He would get nowhere near such a position in the private sector……As a comparison look at the experience on the newly constituted Board for LBA post AENA transaction……

Return of the Tui. I certainly think so as it’s needed in the north east especially near up Lincolnshire.

First off they need to base 2-3 based aircraft and bring back big money maker routes such as Malaga,Mallorca,Faro,Gran Canaria,Tenerife,Lanzarote,Antalya,Dalaman,Rhodes,Paphos.Alicante

Then I would look getting a direct route to Dublin and Belfast whether that’s 3 weekly or a daily service again it’s something north east Lincolnshire have missed out on.

Maybe easyJet could boast the joints in Doncaster rebuild so like Summer or year round routes to Rome,Milan,Paris,Faro

For that return I think that would work handy for Doncaster

North east Lincolnshire has been less mentioned.It needs its 2022 stability back it needs to grow its fortunes back.

People have to go to Manchester for a 6am flight and leave at 2am when a 30-40 minute drive down the M180 A15 from Scunthorpe and Lincoln is a great solution where you time to spare.

There is hardly any market east of Doncaster…..The majority of the market DSA needs is to the West, South and North and they are adequately served by existing airports…….some or all the routes you’ve mentioned were tried previously and failed as passenger numbers didn’t materialise, TUI excepted……

Yes, because DSA opened in a contested market and the airport had to protect itself so stopped touting for new business seriously when MAG sold it. No DSA = potential for a sustainable return of greater choice for the local population (including people in Doncaster). I’d suggest you read this thread, DSA is not viable, never will be. Meanwhile HUY loses around £3000.00 per year (with a profit when including property) so where do you think viable aviation growth can come from in North East Lincolnshire?
