Looks like it was possibly from Dec 15. 1975. Logs show 9 tridents and 5 one elevens amongst others were diversions on that day. Mention of the coaches reminds me of them queuing nose to tail along the length of the international building.

I was looking through my DVD collection the other day and came upon 3 VHS videos which I had totally forgotten about. They are the ones made by Ron Swinbourne for the G8 conference and the Football specials. I would not mind getting these transferred to DVD but obviously there is a copyright warning on the back of each of the videos. Does anyone here have a way of getting in touch with the family to obtain their permission to have these transferred over to DVD?

Didn't the son post on here a few months back or was it someone connected to the aviation experience?

Wow that brought some memories back ! Is it me or did they all have proper Air Traffic Controller and Pilots voices/accents back then - when I hear today's they sound as if they all work in call centres - lacking gravitas and any real authority.
The chap in BA at BHX really sounded fed up ! I was working at BHX in 1975 and looking back amazed at how many diversions could be coped with considering the available parking/terminal space and staffing levels.
Cheers DD

It was Adrian, I believe. I've been trying to search for his post, but can't remember which section he posted in. Perhaps one of the Staff Members will be able to find his contact address.

Kevin

Was it the one from his Grandson Daniel?

If so it's on Page 13 of this thread under the user name psychomouse. Sadly the profile has no contact details but if someone starts a conversation with him it may go to his email address.

Good evening all.

I've had great fun reading this thread and looking at all the pictures. This is my first post and what led me to sign up and reply was all the talk about Swinburne's (Swinburne spelled correctly with an E)

Let me introduce myself I'm Daniel Myatt and Ron Swinburne is my granddad. My dad is Adrian who has been mentioned, he used to work in the shop when it was on the Elmdon side, and in the new terminal at the viewing gallery. He married my mom Jenny who is Ron Swinburne's daughter and we all used to be in the shop all the time.

Some of you may remember a little lad running around the viewing gallery and the shop in the mid/late 90's up till it closed in the early 2000's... That was probably me.

Just to let you all know my granddad is well and is still a keen radio operator and invests his time is his post war Land Rover radio wagon which is his pride and joy along with his motorbikes. Adrian and Jenny are brill too.

Thanks,
Dan

YEP I have been hoping he would contact again as I would love to chat with AJ about the books I passed his way and the set I created and sold to him in his shop.

In so far as the Copyright and the Intellectual Property Acts, one may copy any item if for personal use only and not for further distribution, Broadcasting or publication on any media platform.

Otherwise, one shall need to contact in the first instance the publishing house with the relevant information in order that the request can be legally considered and decisions can be made.

An alternative route is to engage the services of a Solicitor and of course that would place a sizeable dent to ones finances!!

It is long established in Case Law that one may record onto tape any broadcast if for personal use only. PERSONAL USE ONLY.

I can see no impediments in transferring Video tapes to a DVD as long as, during the process, nothing enters the public domain.

To place any intellectual Property not legally owned by oneself in the public domain risks a Civil Action in the County or High Courts by the copyright holders or the estate of said owners of such rights.

Such legal actions can seriously damage one's wealth!!

When I get a private conversation message an alert is sent direct to my email. Depending on how his account is set up if someone starts a conversation with him then the same might happen. It may prompt him to log back on again.

Yes the accents were certainly more upperclass and authoritarian back then. I have a vision of the speedbird captain having a magnificent handlebar moustache and a DFC! Liked the bit when someone says quite nonchalantly that they can probably squeeze their aircraft through a tight gap to park up.

I assume it all happened on a Saturday night - I chuckled at the conversation on the Tower freq whilst waiting for space on the apron to park - looks like we will miss Kojak ......be unlikely to make Match of the Day at this rate someone adds.

I would go for Saturday 20 December 75 - early in the piece the message regarding MAN industrial action finishing on 21Dec75 is broadcast also the references to Kojak and Match of the Day indicate it is a Saturday. The excellent site 'from logs to blogs' lists diversions for this date - although the GH700 VC-10 is not listed.

I was working for the opposition at this time, so we could sit back and watch the spectacle - however whenever LTN/STN/LGW went out in fog and they did on many occasions before the advent of CAT111B approaches, I spent many an hour in all weathers and at all times of the day outside that building waiting for Allenways/Radley Motors/Yardleys or Mid-Warwickshire Motors coaches to pitch up and take the hordes to LTN or where ever........happy days !

Cheers DD

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
