regarding Mr Rees comments about Edinburgh airport, when you look at the airlines and routes that airport operates, to me that's roughly how LBA should be, a handful of US carriers mainly operating B757, seasonal Canada flights, good domestic routes although that's mainly due to location, a wide variety of European airlines and there med flights look to be around the same volume.

Edinburgh's a good example of how a supportive local council has improved connectivity to the airport...trams every 7 mins, the airport is 5 mins from the motorway network, the M9, so it is easy to get to from other parts of Scotland. A world away from Leeds City Council......

Nowhere is easy to get to in Scotland unless you live in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

I worked in Edinburgh for 4 years and used the M9 regularly...geographical distances in Scotland are large but at least the M9 makes it easier for the catchment to get to the airport ..imagine the equivalent length of motorway (about 54 miles), 5 mins from LBA skirting via the airport from say York to Huddersield.

Perversely, the current crisis that has all but closed the airport could be its salvation regarding the planning decision. The economic argument to assist in the recovery and beyond gets stronger by the day. Hopefully the Councillors will see through the Unicorn fantasy of the protestors and see the stark reality for economic survival facing Leeds, West Yorkshire and the U.K.

If by 3rd June there are still more support than objection, it will be a good outcome. I cannot help thinking however that many of the support letters have come from, or with the encouragement of us on this forum. If everyone who worked at LBA, or for the airlines, submitted support then the figure would be in excess of 1000 immediately. Where are all the letters of support from Jet2 staff? From Airport staff? Swissport staff? I would have thought the promise of all new equipment to work with would encourage them to back this proposal strongly (despite the fact LBA have recently replaced all the check in baggage belts).

Thanks for the update tomrhodes28.

Aviador: You obviously have not been to Scotland for a while.... yes distances are more than most expect but motorways, dual carriageways, etc can get you from south to north, east to west in no time. Have you seen all the upgrades, M74, M8, M80, M9, M77, M73/M8 interchange, Aberdeen bypass, A9 dualling , new Forth Bridge crossing, most motorways not overly congested, maybe at peak times. Airports are easy to get to by bus, even a regular coach from Glasgow to Edinburgh and more recently -Dundee to Edinburgh, trams into Edinburgh with a rail interchange. Scotland's population just over 5 million, less than Yorkshire.

Great article showing that local business and Tourism groups support has appeared on the Bradford's Telegraph and Argus website today.

Aren't the objectors seeking to extend the planning process for as long as it takes to boost the number of objections. Supposedly they don't have enough time to read the documents. Strange that because I've had no difficulty.

Equally strange as all the documents were available during the consultation period. They have had 3 months to work out how to distort the truth to their advantage.

The same article is also in the YEP.
That is two positive airport reports in two days by our normally negative rag.

Excellent article because businesses in the region need an airport that works efficiently and that they can promote to prospective clients. I just hope that they all follow this up with official letters of support to the Planners.

Pretty sure they will as they are well aware that if they don't comment properly they might as well not comment at all. I am certain LBA will have been liaising with them on this.

Just looking at Edinburgh Gateway station as we speak and there are departures listed to places like Perth, Inverness and Arbroath (via Dundee), so there are some good long-distance connections. Edinburgh Park (with a direct tram link to the Airport) has numerous services to Glasgow and along the Clyde coast.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
