@Sherburnflyer92 I really wouldn't get too technical with him. It sounds like he only believes what he wants to believe. I would stay clear on things he's already made his mind up on.

I would be inclined to mention that many people work at the airport and it is paramount that the airport secures this development to ensure their job security.

If you work at the airport you could say your job security!

You could mention that fact that the airport is the main employer in his constituency.

You could sugest he becomes more proactive by putting pressure on the aviation industry to work quicker towards net zero emissions.

Few more objections today, anybody have an update on the totals? I managed to get a few more support over the past couple of days

To get elected he needs the student vote and his way of securing it is to play the environmental card. Its ridiculous that a bunch of students from disparate parts of the country can have such on an influence on local politics.

The interesting thing about Leeds North West seat is that it is one of the few seats i think without extensive research that has had all 3 major parties. Liberal Democrats held this seat for 12 years, surviving the 2015 student vote exodus. Labour took over in the 2017 GE and held it since but it was a history of been conservative seat for a number of years prior to 1997. Would be interesting to see what a Lib Dem MP would think of it? Given we should in theory becoming to the end of the 2015 conservative majority term this year which in turn was the Lib Dem MP for Leeds NW.

I wrote to him today and let him have both barrels. He will be in no doubt at all as to what I think of him and if he bothers to read it, he might even learn something about what he condemns.

I have to say he's very good responder having wrote to him about a couple of issues before. So will be interesting to see his response.

I believe Greg Mulholland (prev Lib Dem) was very supportive.
But the last Lib Dem candidate was opposed to LBA expansion, so he didn't get my vote. Sobel stayed quiet on LBA until he was elected, then started with his negativity.

I just had a standard acknowledgement email. I will be surprised if I get any meaningful reply, but unless it says he got it horribly wrong and will now support the terminal, (which it won't), then I am not interested in his response.

I had a brief email reply today from. Alex Sobel which simply thanked me for writing and told me had today submitted his objections in the planning portal. He did give me a link to read what he said. I have not read it, nor do I intend to but if anyone does it will be visible on the portal. He made no attempt at all to answer a single point I raised, which to me suggests he had s very ignorant attitude towards his constituents.

I have no in-principle objections to the building of a new terminal and support building new buildings with lower carbon footprints and better waste processes. However, I have deep concerns that the underlying business model to pay for the terminal equates to an expansion of passenger number and flights. In the context of the climate emergency, and if the coronavirus pandemic has taught us anything, it is that we must put public health at the forefront of public decision making, ahead of any perceived economic benefit. A net increase of pollution from the airport due to an increase of flights will undermine the city in its policy to meet net zero carbon by 2030 and will impact the air quality, which in normal circumstances is in breach of the UK and EU guidelines, let alone the World Health Organisation target which is the target to which we should aspire. The resultant increase in noise pollution will be of great concern to many of my residents who live under the flight path and would likely have an adverse effect on local biodiversity as well as its own negative impact on public health. I understand that under the original planning regulations, speculation as to the future business impact of a building was not a consideration, that said under Leeds City Council's climate emergency policy, it would not be reasonable to separate the fabric of the building from its intended future use. Indeed, in the recent planning decisions regarding expansion of Bristol and Stanstead Airports as well as the ruling on Heathrow's third runway, the climate emergency was a key driver behind the decision to reject those applications. In the current context of the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting shrinkage of the aviation sector, this does not seem from the outside to be a viable business model. If this was to go ahead but the financial projections to pay for the building weren't reached, I would worry for the future economic stability of Leeds Bradford Airport, and the impact on staff. Extended daylight flight times The application outlines the intention to extend daytime flight times, for landing and take-off, to between 6am and 11.30pm. The resultant effect in noise for residents of my constituency would be significant and the resultant effect on public health from that increase would be clear. It is also unclear, given the recent coronavirus crisis and shrinkage in the airline industry, that this change would be economically beneficial. Impact on local roads Whilst I am in support of the new Leeds Bradford Airport parkway station, it is of concern that an expansion at this stage could cause an increase in local through traffic in the communities around the airport, including Yeadon in my constituency. It is unclear what the impact of coronavirus will be on the public confidence to use public transport, but my best indication is that there will be a likely increase in journeys made by car. This must be factored into the decision. Whilst I note the increase of on-site parking facilities, there is likely also to be an increase of local parking problems, particularly in the streets near the airport that have inadequate 'residents-only' parking. This could be exacerbated by the parking cap at the existing level which I appreciate is done to discourage car journeys. The council must consider residents only parking for all residential streets within a one-kilometre radius of Leeds Bradford Airport whilst providing adequate local parking facilities for local business. The inclusion of a new bus station within the airport is welcome. That said, it is unclear whether it will have a significant impact as to the concerns outlined above. Note on time frame I have written previously to make the point that the existing time frame for responses to this application is far too short given the complexities of the application, the number of documents and the impact of the current pandemic on the public consciousness. Note on environmental policies put forward in the application I would commend the airport on their addition of environmental factors, particularly around the construction process and building standards and accept that this will reduce the carbon footprint of the airport building itself. This is welcome. However, as stated above, the intended purpose of this new building is to encourage an increase of passenger numbers and therefore an increase of flights. It is not possible to mitigate the environmental damage caused by air pollution of such an increase with high building standards.

Alex Sobel MP's statement of Objection.

Basically he doesn't mind the new building, or the proposed plan for the Parkway Station and a bus station but doesn't know whether it will be much of a sufficient impact.

He doesn't like that the flight times being extended, environmental impact due to LCC's target of carbon-neutral by 2030, and local traffic affecting Yeadon and Rawdon. Well if it wasn't for your friends in Labour LCC then this might of helped the traffic issue in Yeadon and Rawdon with the previously proposed road plans which got denied.

Also saying "It is also unclear, given the recent coronavirus crisis and shrinkage in the airline industry, that this change would be economically beneficial." Has he not bloody read the fact that Leeds residents won't be paying a penny for this so it won't affect our back pockets if it doesn't work its AMP loss at the end of the day.

Your lucky Heather I sent him an email yesterday morning and still haven't had a reply.

Oh now I’ve got his objection. I can go in with both barrels.

Someone on Twitter also posted fake news about the terminal, saying new terminal behind the current cargo estate. I mean that would require a massive ramp investment. Ha. Ignorance at its best.

Does anybody who can contact Someone at the airport think it may be worth an email to see if LBA could potentially send a follow up email asking for support again? As last time they seemed to flood on? Wouldn’t hurt I guess?

also if There is any airport employees on here think it might be worth an email to fellow employees to add a support co Kent

But yet again, objectors are missing the point that expansion has already been passed. If the plans are thrown out, the airport could in theory still go ahead with the previously passed plans. Ground works were carried out and as such, the work was commenced. It isn't the best option for the airport, the city or the region but it is entirely possible. So we would have an inefficient carbon guzzling terminal with up to 7m passengers. Nice work Alex.

I did last week.though asking them to target airport and airport industry employees again as they alone would at least double the support. They do have their PR team monitoring the levels of support and are acting accordingly. They have been notified also of the entirely biased on line survey (by me) yesterday. What is clear is they are not just sitting back and hoping for the best.

It’s beyond backwards LCC.

How is it Manchester and the whole North West get things built and we just have people infighting to the detriment of our city region/county.

You only have to notice how the M65 just stops at the border with Yorkshire. The lack of any decent orbital road around Leeds, Tram, HS2, decent new city developments it’s endless...

Ive had it living here, before Covid I had the chance to move to Manchester as Jet2 have already decided it’ll become the main engineering base. If the new terminal isn't approved and the role is still available, for my own sanity I’m going, I cannot live in a city that is so incredibly backwards...

Sorry all for the rant but this is ludicrous how our own MP’s are against the city.

I have no idea if it’s even legal but how’s about all the opposition commentators are banned from using LBA. piss off elsewhere you absolute C****

Exactly what I told him yesterday among other things and clearly he totally ignored it and stuck to his clearly environmentalist anti aviation agenda and to hell with the jobs of his constituents. A friend has just sent him a very good letter asking him to support the application but too late now.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
