Not directly related to the airports planning application. Its one of a series of webinars linked to the citys transport policy. They are open to anyone.

It's just a report based around the environmental lobby's objections. It brings nothing new to the table. A demand for approved airport planning expansion applications to be called in is what always happens when objectors fail to get their way from the local authority.

Not LBA but I think many F4A LBA supporters and others would be interested in the Stansted case. I've put a link to the full local paper report at the end of this post but I will precis the situation.

In 2018 STN's local authority - Uttlesford Distriict Council (UDC) - then Conservative-dominated voted to approve STN's planning application that would allow the airport to grow from 35 mppa to 43 mppa.

The following year the Residents for Uttlesford (R4U) won control of the council and members voted to return the application to the planning committee (I didn't know they could). This time they rejected the application despite their own planning officers recommending approval as did independent legal advice.

MAG, the STN owners, mounted an appeal and the public enquiry element of the process began last month before three planning inspectors.

According to MAG's QC at the enquiry STN's version of GALBA, Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE), was the driving force behind UDC's decision to revisit and subsequently reject the application.

SSE has now fallen out with UDC which it says has withdrawn most of its objections. SSE will now only submit written evidence to the enquiry because it believes the enquiry should be halted until it can be held in the normal way and not remotely as it is doing. The inspectors warned SSE that written evidence would not carry the same weight as oral evidence.

MAG's QC told the enquiry that, "SSE have played the role of Pied Piper in relation to Stansted’s application and have led UDC’s planning committee over the metaphorical cliff.”

The QC went on to say, “UDC’s case has now contracted to the extent that it accepts that the appeal should be allowed and planning permission granted. Its focus is now clearly upon the structure and content of any accompanying planning conditions." He also told the enquiry that,
"Stansted Airport considers the behaviour of UDC and SSE to be unreasonable and warns now that when the evidence is complete it will be seeking compensation for any wasted costs which it has been obliged to bear in prosecuting this appeal.”

It appears then that local authority is facing up to reality and making only token gestures in its response to the airport's appeal, albeit the local version of GALBA is still making bullets (although paper ones now) that it demands the local authority should turn into real ones and fire.

It's a lovely tale of former friends falling out.

Incidentally, there is an undoubted pattern emerging with airport planning applications. At LBA, BRS and STN each of the local authorities' professional planning officers recommended approval of the applications but at BRS and STN the local planning councillors overruled them and plumped for rejection, although now it seems that the STN local authority is soft-pedalling.

The right are as bad if not worse @LBA4EVER. They won't accept responsibility and Balme the left all the time.

The media in the UK is poison anyway no matter which way they swing to.

@LBAYORKIE was this a further meeting to the one already? I know know was planned today I guess to go over the conditions negotiated? Or is that further down the line?
I would not say the right are bad at all, they know exactly what is going off in the country that it is now! the far left try to poison our thoughts and make out the right are bad, dont be taken in by them! Everyone i know and who lives around me are certainly middle and right for sure, the vast majority of the country are middle and right, it seems to be those behind the media that are lefties and together with the lefties that are out there they breed off it, use it to their advantage, the lefty media affects us all inc here at LBA, put it this way i know we have been successful with the airport plans but if the news was more middle ground lets just say we would not of been sweating as much for the past year yea! ok rant over

The Labour Party in particular seem to be putting environmental concerns above all else. There doesn't seem to be any balance in their thinking. Of all parties they, above all, should understand the importance of jobs. I assume that they think this stance will win them votes.

Well they won't win my vote! Alex Sobel has lost it from me and my family. I won't vite for Labour, or Lib Dem, either in the local elections or Government elections as all of them opposed the airport and, even worse, distributed the lies generated by GALBA

Im sure you have made your views clear to Alex Sobel what we need is more forum members who are Labour or Liberal voters to contact their local MPs and leave them in no doubt as to their views.

Don't have to worry about me either.

I've made my views very clear from the start and that's after being in direct contact with my local MP regards the airports new Terminal, It is for that very reason I'll never vote The Labour Party whilst Rachel Reeves, MP holds the Leeds West seat.

Thats as it may be but have you told her your views on the airport and why you cant vote for her?

To put in in simple terms. Neither her or her Labour party representatives will be knocking on my front door in run up to either the upcoming Local Elections in May or the next General Election in 3 years time, as I'm now paid up member of the Conservative Party.

“Ariana Densham from Greenpeace said: “From new coalmines to expanding airports, the government has a deeply concerning, but growing habit of recklessly passing the buck on the signoff of polluting mega-projects.”
If only the LBA plans were a mega project! They’re very modest in the scheme of things and about as green as you can get.

Well, as long as they know. No point any of us suffering in silence.

I took part in an LCC webinar this afternoon on the subject of decarbonising the city. Four experts spoke and the airport was a hot topic. Basically it boiled down to 2 things, the lack of a national aviation policy and the fact that most of the carbon generated by flights had been ignored because (as we know) carbon from international flights 'doesnt count' even though it clearly exists. Someone chipped in on Zoom chat supporting one of the experts who was supporting the need for carbon international flights to be counted. I made my own comment.
If yiu go onto YouTube you can see a recording of the meeting. Type in:

I am sick of all this political stuff. Someone wake up me when there is actually some building going on.
I tried to move the thread away from politics a week ago but unfortunately the subject is entwined with politics due to the nature of the topic. It will eventually run its course and what will be will be.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
