See the rumour I've heard is that BA customers will have to pay £5 entry into the lounges. Now I don' k of that's for 1432 lounge or for all of them. Haven't heard anything about KLM. All this is just a rumour too so again taking it with a pinch of salt

it would be for the 1432. if they are entitled to use a lounge they would continue to be able to use the WRS for no additional premium in the same way they can use the YPL currently.

hi all
i wonder if the new owners of LBA would look at or consider if it were possible to alter the 32 end,if they could fit in a turning loop (same as the 14 loop) this would act as a starter strip,would this also bring the threshold back a bit?and benefit the use of the CAT3 landings for the 757s and the heaver 737-800s, i am wellaware this has been talked about before but just wondered if the new owners would try and fix this long standing problem.any thoughts lads,300boy what do you think?.

I am not sure I am convinced LBA needs another lounge level. It is disappointing that when the terminal clearly needs some extra general seating areas they are using this extra space as a lounge.

Karfa, don't forget that although the new area is being turned into a new lounge (a decision that appears to have been taken by the new owners, as originally the new area was intended to be general seating), all the areas previously occupied by the lounge will become general seating once relocated. I have been assured by LBA that despite the change of plan, there will still be a further 500 general seats installed which are not part of any lounge nor part of any bar/cafe/restaurant. In fact the seats are already on site and are of a different type to those being installed in the new lounges. All they are doing is switching things round so that the lightest, brightest seating area with an airfield view, is in the new lounge area and the additional 500 seats are in the original departure lounge area.

I can't answer that specifically Karfa, I can only relay on what LBA said at the last meeting. The original plan was to put 500 seats in that area, so it must be a pretty big area to get not only 500 seats in, but also allow for circulation space etc. Either way, LBA say there will still be 500 more seats going into the airside area, which should answer your concerns.

Yes, I believe that all three lounges will be in the same (new extension) area. If you look at the photos I shared on this post yesterday morning you can see the layout of the three lounges.

Yes there will be a coffee outlet (beginning with S) in some of the space vacated by the lounges and the 500 seats will be adjacent to it - or to quote the CE, close enough to smell the coffee and be tempted.

Hence the reason they are are putting the new lounges in the new extension area, As they know they'll be able to charge customers even more to get a good view of the airfield whilst they get to chill out away from the general crowds in the departure lounge..

If the is money to be made why not! I'm sure any other business would have done same as LBA managerment in this circumstance.

And for years the lounge has ALWAYS had a view onto the arrivals corridor. Not really good when customers who have paid a premium to be in a lounge yet they are looked into/look out onto the customers arriving back from Holiday. What a fantastic forward thinking idea for LBA. Now they have a picture of the ramp from the lounge with no one looking in. Brilliant idea.

The new lounges are due to open in April, then I’m hoping they will start straight away on removing the old lounges.

Looking ahead to the terminal switch around work (next winter?) will there be any need for the current arrivals/departures corridors? They could be removed and the departure area could be extended up to the windows making even more space.

So why the hell have we had to wait all this time for the switch over ! I only used the YPL once. At the time I thought it was quite poor and no view either.
I will probably use one of the new ones on my next outbound trip.

Work started today on the construction of the new reception/information desk. It’s new location is just inside the main entrance between Check in Hall A & B.

The upgrade works to the Hold Baggage System in check in hall A has commenced. British Airways, KLM, Aer Lingus & Tui will use check in desks B40-B44 in Hall B alongside Jet2, whilst these works are ongoing with the remaining airlines staying Hall A and the bags being transferred up to hall by Cart, Just like Jet2 did over the past few weeks.

The new information desk landside is currently being installed too and it looks like it's going to be 3 times bigger than the current one.

It's nice to see work being carried out around the airport in preparation for a busy summer ahead.

New info desk is also PRM desk and car park monitor area all rolled into one. Supposed to be finished at the end of this week. It's location puts it right in front of the doors that are constantly opening, going to be a cold place to work!
