White Heather clearly stated the reason for the terminal planning application being linked to the night time hours:
“It should be noted that without the change in night time hours, the terminal will not be able to function to its full capacity and will not be built.“
In other words, little point in spending £150M if the full potential of your investment will never be realised. Seems a sensible business decision to me if you’re spending that kind of brass.

Puts a bit of pressure back on LCC too ! All I and most of the locals I have spoken to want is sensible aviation related expansion without housing estates on the perimeter of the airport.

Vert interesting leedslad and thanks for taking the time to get hold of it and post it on here.

I know that Council Officers are not meant to have an opinion, in public at least, but I didn't get any negative vibes either, which to my way of thinking is a good sign. Lets keep our fingers crossed. I did note, although I can't find that date when I look back, that the application is due back before the Council at the end of September.

Somebody must have told them Jet2's fleet renewal plans...A321NEO and B787/10. No 737's shown so they must be assuming that Ryanair are pulling the plug. Maybe the BA night stopper will be an A321NEO as well.... oh...must have been dreaming...my alarm clock has just gone off.

Looking good and interesting layout. I know it's only a work in progress but looks good so far. Looking forward to seeing more detailed plans and how the pier will work.

As a regular airport user but non plane spotter type is the 321 basically the plane Ryanair and Jet2 tend to use today?

Do we see any 330 size planes today? Who tends to use these and how big?

So most stands to accommodate aircraft up to 321 size. Two stands with airbridges to accommodate Boeing 777, 787, Airbus A330 "family"

The 321Neo is an Airbus equivalent of the 757. The 777, 787 A330 are all wide bodied aircraft of which only the A330 has visited LBA in the past. The plans indicate mixed mode stands on the two indicated wide bodied stands. This means they will be geared to dealing with multiple aircraft types.

Jet2 use the Boeing 737 300 and 737 800 leedslad, along with their Boeing 757s although they are going over to Manchester at the end of this winter season so will be a rarer sight at LBA. Ryanair also use the Boeing 737 800. In fact the majority of aircraft using LBA are 737 800s. We still get the British Airways Airbus A319 and occasional A320s. The A321 is an extended version of the A320, with a longer fuselage etc.

Jet2 have A330s which are leased but they don't come into LBA (yet) as the terminal can't cope with wide body aircraft any more and there are also problems with the stands. On top of that there are no suitable air stairs and ground handling equipment at LBA now that wide body aircraft don't tend to come in here. The new terminal will provide the facilities required to handle wide body aircraft and the stands will be created that will also be suitable for a variety of wide body aircraft. LBA are certainly targeting aircraft types such as the A330, Boeing 787, Airbus A350 etc. once the terminal is built. IF the terminal is built!

Due to the amount of space at that end of the apron where the new terminal is planned they would clearly be room for a pier to extend out from the other side of the terminal with aircraft able to park on each side of it. perhaps this is another plan they may have in mind?

A330 does not necessarily mean long haul. I think you will find that Jet2 use their A330's for high capacity on the usual Med sun bashing routes.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
