I don't get Labour MP's contesting it. if this doesn't get approve I hope Alex Sobel has a good argument for the reason he doesn't want it. Because I'm going to highlight the fact he wants more people travelling to MAN via car which adds to the climate change. How is that correct?

I'm going to do all I can to ensure that labour do not hold Labour North West seat come the next general election.

Opposing it for opposing sake, that's all they are doing. We know MP Alex Sobel was only recently involved in a video supporting the Multiflight based aviation collage and the vital part the aviation industry plays. We also know he supports the Northern Powerhouse and the transport requirements it needs to enable the Northern economy to progress. Clearly there is more to their objection than we are aware of.

Knew it wouldn't be long until the local rags got wind of the Chief planning officer report.

A nice piece of impartial reporting - not! The article mentions in the first paragraph the objections of 5 Labour MP;s and GALBA but no mention at all of the Support Group or any other supporters of the application.

Dare I say money. Dare I suggest ... corruption? Not working for the greater good but for the dollar some uneducable dip sticks in GALBA has dangled in front of them.

Standard reporting we have come to expect from the YEP. Probably partly why their readership has been dropping for years. They used to provide a vital news source for the region,, now the YEP are only interested in "click-bait" material to get advertisement clicks.

Well we couldn't possibly suggest that could we, but it makes you wonder?

We know GALBA has had outside funding from somewhere to pay for huge advertisements across the city during the planning process.

LBA on the other hand has never tried to manipulate the public at any stage. It submitted an honest plan for a replacement sustainable terminal building that isn't any larger than what has already been approved. It looks better, it's nearer to the proposed rail offering and it's environmentally sound from a building prospective.

If councillors are concerned about the wider impact of green house gases, they should lobby the government. Future measures if any need to target all airports equally rather than singling out LBA on its own. Stopping this development will not save the planet when new airports and runways are being constructed around the world.

Leeds City Councillors trying to stop this development will not save the planet when Leeds City Council continue to approve other massive construction projects in the city centre consuming huge amounts of global resources.

Just read the report. It answers all the plans panel concerns and in a roundabout way, shows GALBA for what they are. I feel more positive for reading it. Worth noting though that if the intention is to approve it, the Council have to submit to the secretary of state because it's a building exceeding 1000m2 built on Green Belt land (despite being within the airport boundary).

Well worth the 2 hours spent reading it though.

If I were the council and I decided to pass the application I would make a stipulation that substantial work commences within 12 months. A big part of the argument for approval is the financial one and the sooner the work starts the sooner new jobs can be created. It seems pointless in the current economic climate to apply the usual 3 year rule for building to commence. The injection of capital and new jobs are needed now, not in 3 years time.

Whose funding the new terminal?

After having had a year or longer with massively reduced income, can the airport afford to start construction in the next 12 months?

If it takes a full summers operation to get their finances in order, they couldn't start until winter 2022/23.

From what I understand the money for this development is ringfenced and comes from the airports parent company AMP Capital a company worth in the region of A$ 5.36 billion.

Anyone know if since this is a joint application to change flying hours rules and build new terminal when the flying hours rule change would apply from (if approved)?

I'd be amazed if any money that was "ring fenced" pre-Covid by any company/organisation hasn't been touched yet tbh!

Think this is the part of the application that will have the most difficulty getting approved, and is causing the doubt atm.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
