This area is not on the map of the goverment and as a Labour controlled area is unlikely to get any serious funding.
Sorry, but isn't Manchester Labour controlled? And a Labour Mayor? Not sure, just asking. But if so, that argument doesn't stack up. They get everything going and they are not stopped from carrying out airport development either.

Sheffield too. It may not get HS2 tracks but it's now getting the trains despite not even being on the original HS2 line. But Leeds just gets a study to see how best to extend HS2 trains up here, which of course means that naff all will happen.

Frankly, whilst right now I hate this Government with a passion, I consider that Labour would have shafted us in Leeds and Bradford just the same. And if they get into power, heaven help LBA and its future if the new terminal hasn't been built by then. Imagine our Leeds West MP, as Chancellor! I'd rather not. Imagine Sobel in a key post within Parliament given his links to ER. What a horrifying thought.

In respect of the pending new terminal, I will be intrigued to hear what the consultative committee meeting reveals (8 Dec) in respect of how much more time LBA are prepared to wait before commencing terminal extension. This procrastination by the govt is absolutely farcical. The frustration must be becoming unmaintainable.

It boils my p*ss how Yorkshire is treated. We have a slightly larger population than Scotland, but unlike our Scottish cousins we have minimal say in our own government, we receive less per head of population compared to nearly all UK regions. We put tax money in the pot but get less back, in education, health, transport. A person in some our poorer communities has a life expectancywhich equates 10 to 15 years less compared to those in affluent areas of the South East. This is the true reality of “levelling up”. It’s an absolute discgrace and how Boris can sit and suggest, less spending is better because it brings results quicker, just beggars belief. Half of the infrastructure will still be on Victorian engineered rail lines. Specific to LBA the delays re the terminal are just beyond a joke - this would never happen down south.

WH As my original post stated we dont have Andy Burnham over here who wipes the floor with Boris and his mates.
As far as Airport development goes Manchester still has Local Authority part ownership in place so money in it for the system coupled with lots of investment from the far east makes opposition unlikely thats maybe what LCC should have set up.

Mr B didn’t do a good job of securing the railroad project
Actually, he did. Manchester is his priority, not the North as a whole, and I feel sure if push comes to shove, he would happily sell this side of the Pennines down the river as long as Manchester gets what it wants, which it pretty much has. OK it's not got the new line to Leeds, but it has got the original HS2, and a new high speed line from Warrington, and the one stretch of the line to Leeds that will be upgraded to high speed, is the section within Greater Manchester. He has got the vast majority of what he wanted.

Meanwhile, Dan Jarvis, the Sheffield Mayor, has at least got HS2 terminating at Sheffield - which originally wasn't on the HS2 line. Tracey Brabin is looking rather poor already and appears to be seen as a soft touch by Government. All she has achieved in this are promises of upgrades and Leeds no longer on HS2 at all.

Rail experts are already saying that the Government proposals will not work and are nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

Boris has put the con into connectivity. I hope he is braced for the loss of northern seats on the back of false promises. Bumbling his way through governing and being a buffoon won’t wash any more....time to jog on.
Funny though that the route scrapped from East Midlands Parkway Northwards, was due to pass through several constituencies that the Tories recently won from Labour. Some pandering to voters going on here!

WH I don’t think Boris will come out of this well, even with those in South Yorkshire who feel saved by the about turn- the change of decision won’t compensate them for years of uncertainty and house price losses- so no winners this side of the Pennines.

I'm going slightly off topic, but Boris is in trouble, hearing the 1922 committee have been talking, which means one thing....they will try and kick him out.

It's clearly political and he's pondered to his red wall voters.. its a total con. Possibly the worst PM

Grant Shapps said today that the HS2 plans were outdated. Odd that they were outdated here, but apparently absolutely fine as far as London to Manchester is concerned.

Anyway, back to LBA matters......

They aren’t operating Leeds to Alicante until the end of March A300boy so they’ve got no choice if they’re wanting to use Ryanair to Alicante.

Though I don’t understand their reasoning for not operating the route during the winter but at least they still intend on resuming the route for the Summer.

It's been announced that Michael Gove's department will shortly publish the long awaited report on levelling up the North. It is stated it will include various infrastructure projects and focus on allowing local decision makers to seize the initiative with improvements. That sounds like 'making their own decisions' to me!
So, I wonder if the LBA terminal decision might be included as part if this report? It would be a logical place to include it within this report to demonstrate how nice the Government is to us northerners!.
It was reported on the BBC local news, so is likely to be included on the dreaded Look North at 6.30.

Amazing how the negative local press organizations skirt away from any discussion about the airport except when they give anti-airport local activists a chance to put a negative spin on the airports plans.
I will never subscribe to any of them until they show support and get off the fence where they have been for far too long.

Or as I say "levelling up the North West"

Interesting and could be a way to approve but also use other projects / infrastructure developments to take the sole focus off just the airport. lets hope and think positive.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
