Another prime example why the walkway is needed. If anything, the walkway should be done first. What's the point in creating loads more space and increasing passenger numbers inside the terminal if the terrible infrastructure does not allow passengers to get out the gates?
It's simple as this, the airport do not get paid by Ryanair if a delay goes down to airport facilities. Ryanair are quite happy to disembark and hold all passengers on the walkway so the crew can complete their turnaround checks and accept new passengers once the path is clear. This often means the walkway is blocked for other airlines, and we all know what view the airport has. Ryanair won't pay if we delay, so let's delay the Jet2/Thomas cook/flybe/bmi instead.
Other airlines like Jet2 and Thomas Cook do not put up with that kind of crap and would rather delay boarding/hold passengers on board.
