The building work is starting to pick up pace.

Here's how Check-in hall A is looking at the moment.

The glass wall on the left side of this picture will be removed so the first floor area will extend into the old office space.

To the right hand side of this picture you can see where the new lift shaft is and where the new escalator is going to go.

In the old office corridor between the old first floor food village and the check-in hall work to construct new partitioning walls is being carried out. Close to where the new Travellex store will be located.

On the last picture there where the passengers are stood the ceiling for the ground floor looks like its going to be very low, assuming that bit is having a ground and 1st floor, they seem to be getting through a fair amount of work tough its looking good so far!

Well if you were to put a passenger next to the white boards, there would be some height left over, and even those fit beneath the beams that we can see.

I don't think it will be that low, probably the height of what it was when passengers were walking next to WHSmiths, Landside in the 'old terminal'.

It does seem very low both on the ground and the top floors, they must think that the people of west yorkshire are midgets!!

god help the airport if they get any tall people.

It may look very low but it's no different from the rest of the terminal. If you look at the lift shaft opening you probably get a better idea of how it will seem.

I'm sure once it's finished it will look the part, the steel beems just looked a tad low for my liking, it could seem claustrophobic on a warm busy day but I'm sure the planning team took all that into consideration though and have accounted for it.

Thanks for the picture updates. I was looking at this picture and trying to work out where the space with the Ryanair advertising material was (to the right of the image where you can see the word 'lowest'). It looks inside the terminal, but on the plans I have, this is where the new first floor walkway will be - taking people from the new escalator across the terminal to where Burger King is currently.

That's correct mode1. To the right of the picture is where the old revolving door used to be LS16 if that helps to clarify it.

I remember those days with the revolving door well Aviador! I once flew with Britannia when I was a young boy in the 90's and we went through the entrance corridor, which is now the queue for the passport check before security!

Has an exact date been given for when the redevelopment will be completed?

It's very difficult to get an exact date because different areas will be finished at different times. The main floor area should be ready for around May time but other parts such as the extended security aren't supposed to be ready until later. Once the new first floor level goes in they will have a much better idea of when things are going to be completed. I know shop fitters work in large teams and they can get a shop open very quickly, so the likes of WHSmith's, Superdrug and the World Duty Free shop will be able to relocate very quickly. I would imagine other smaller elements of the project may run well into the summer. From what I gather there's new lifts and other secondary works that may not be finished until later.

Just seen this about the land at Moseley Wood bottom: http://barryanderson.yourcllr.com/2012/ ... cookridge/ I wondered how it might effect plans for an airport station? I was wondering that if a station was built that this land might become a park and ride type facility.

If they ever get round to building a station there, do you know if the intention is to close the current Horsforth station?

Here's an updated picture of the terminal work.

No there are no plans to close Horsforth if another station is built near Moseley Wood bottom - which is actually where they are planning to put an LBA station if the electrification scheme goes ahead. Both stations would operate.

Thanks for that. Looks like quite a few walls still to come down ! I'm trying to remember how much space there will be behind the point at which you took this shot. Is it the old gate 7 area?

Just trying to dig the plans out to guage from where in this picture the new lift shaft and escalator will be situated.

Mode1 is correct LS16 with respects to where the lift shaft is. If you can make it out now you can get a feel as to how big the new floor space will be. The area near the old gate 7 (10) can hold around 100 passengers comfortably. The old office space to the left of the picture will be around the same size.

Mode1 I'm not sure which method of concrete fill they're going to use. If I find out I'll let you know, but wont set concrete be too heavy to lift into place ?

With the incredible strength of new technology Nano Cement, pre-cast structures weigh a fraction compared to the old structures.

Thanks Aviador and Mode1. If the attached link works, it shows you the first floor plans. The isn't quite the final version, but it won't be too far off and it looks like the lift shaft is spot on.

Steel deck and concrete pour I would say looking at the latest picture.

The speed at which the work is progressing, especially during the past few weeks, has been incredible. It ceiling does look a little small, but once everything has been painted in bright colours and the skylight is in, all should look very airy!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
