Furthest stand's away fromt he airport for ryanair next year then yeah? Good. Surely TCX would be more then happy to use the airbridge, and Jet2 do a very good job of boarding both 75/73 from there too.

It isn't the first time the airport has proposed having an undercover walkway. Just after Bridgepoint took over LBIA hoardings were put up in the short stay 2 car park ready for work to begin. At the same time was the global financial meltdown. The hoardings were taken away and the project was cancelled. I do think it will go ahead this time. I could be way off the mark but part of the short stay 2 car park has been sectioned off by cones, so it looks like they're ready for the hoardings to go back up ready for work to begin.

Following on from my last post. Portacabins have now been placed on the top part of short-stay 2 car park. This is separate from the main contractor compound area so I am sure it is for the associated walkway work to be carried out.

As for the terminal works, things are progressing slowly. The ceiling in check-in hall A is now back to the concrete and metal structure. The hoardings around the back of the hall opposite the check-in area have been expanded and the building of the lift shaft wall is nearing completion. It looks like the installation of the metal works to provide the base for the new floor could be starting shortly perhaps as soon as next week.

I forgot to mention that the huge lighting mobile columns have been taken down. I can't say I was ever fond of it anyway so I'm glad to see it go. It was just a huge dust collector.

So it definitely looks as if the walkway is going to be constructed after all then..

It did seem odd how they announced it and then weeks later, what seemed to be rumours, evolved and stated it wouldn't go ahead..

That's all well and good if you don't have to be there in inadequate lighting conditions. It was never cleaned but was necessary.

I know what you mean with respects to the poor lighting. The lighting in the rest of the terminal where the lower sealing already exists seems much brighter than in Check-In Hall A pr-the work commencement so all being well it will be much brighter. My concern will be the air conditioning (or lack of it) as the terminal can get hot and stuffy when it's busy even without the occasional heat wave.

Hi mode1, I'll do my best with the updates. There's nothing much else to see right now other than the removal of the lighting mobiles. So far as an update goes, I spoke to a contractor yesterday who said scaffolding was being erected ready for steel works to commence. So hopefully a start on the steel works this week when things will become very much more noticeable.

Contractors say next Monday is the scheduled start date for metal works to begin in the check-in hall. In the meantime the old Yates bar has now been removed and the old office corridor is now stripped.

Yes that is correct. Part of the lounge is going to become a walkway between the new retail areas and the departure gates.

Metal work is expected to start going up this evening.

There is currently a low loader situated on the terminal front containing a delivery of metal girders that are to be used in check-in hall A. Morgan Sindall expect the girders to go up at a rate of around two per night so the work to install the girders should be complete within the next two to three weeks.

Yes there's a gap in the hoardings to allow passengers to get to the security screening area.

Also I forgot to mention that the ceramic floor tiles in the old Food Village area are being ripped up. I do hope the flooring that replaces the tiles is of equal quality and not the cheap looking vinyl flooring used else where in the terminal.

You took the words right out of my mouth. The flooring landside is appauling, it seems to get scuffed and marked every time a trolley or suitcase is pulled over it. I hope to god they use good quality tiles or at least the heavy duty vinyl flooring used airside. (I.e. on the international walkway - the grey styled slightly shiny laminate)

Hall B is due to have it's concrete floor painted again after last year's shambollic job, the paint has worn off where people walk and looks AWFUL. A respectable person from the airport told me it was done at the last minute and was not properly budgeted for. Good old LBIA strikes again.

It's taking shape. Do you think the cladding at the bottom of the girders is stopping as the contractors have put a protective wrap round them?

I'm not sure exactly but it looks like it's staying as is unless it gets painted up afterwards.
