LUFC PETE enough please! Your just flogging a dead horse now... I and many others have the same views as you and want to see a prospering airport build for the Yorkshire region. I'm afraid your constant negative views are not helping at all and will not speed up bridgepoint one bit....

It's Christmas be happy....

:whiteflag:

I am happy chaps/chapesses! Really happy! Nothing makes me happier than cutting through the spin & BS and endeavouring to explain what is really going on (or not) with our local airport. If I see a post that I feel misses the point or unfairly shifts the blame then of course I try to explain. Happy Christmas to all forumers. ps get a move on bridge point.

LUFC Pete
I do like to see alternative views and welcome yours.
We all have an opinion on whats going on and most of us are happy to see the positive progress we have made, but like you, are disappointed with some of the other longer term improvements which have not been implemented. Money always determines what can and cannot be done and as we are not paying we will have to hope the Masterplan will have some answers for us all .

I'd just like to point out that this thread is for actual "work in progress" and further discussion about why nothing is happening need to go in the Leeds Bradford Airport General Thread.

Re: Leeds Bradford - General Thread

I noticed some workmen carrying out survey work on the terminal front today. The last time this happened was shortly before the previous terminal expansion plans were released prior to the recession. Fingers crossed for something positive to come of this.

Regarding the Airport Masterplan (are you reading this LUFC Pete??) - It was confirmed today that LBA has appointed a senior guy to manage all estate issues at LBA and he has direct responsibility for the Masterplan. It was confirmed LBA have to have one, but that there is no target timetable set by Government for its production. LBA can do it to their own schedule. LBA are currently in talks with interested parties, such as MP's, and have invested substantially in buying in professional consultants etc to assist. Work is progressing well on the plan. The draft plan will be available for the September committee meeting to view and will then be going out for public consultation. I specifically asked, what LBA's target was for the publication of the final plan and it was confirmed as late 2013. It was stated to be in the interests of LBA to complete the plan as soon as possible. Does anyone know how the senior guy is getting on?

It was confirmed also that LBA have bought 3 Mercedes Benz articulated buses for use on the airport aprons, despite the fact that airlines prefer not to have to pay to use them. They will be used more freely in the winter months and bad weather.

It was also confirmed that the passenger walkway alongside the Eastern Apron cost £1.5 million.

Anyone know how the above is progressing? Unfortunately my question was inserted into the end of the first paragraph.

It really is quite shocking. Doncaster gaining new routes on us now.

No news at all I'm afraid on the Masterplan update.

On another note the airport appears to have commenced the building of additional car parking spaces close to the end of the old runway 28 threshold.

Looking on the webcam, behind ATC there seems to be 2 cranes / long poles?!?.. Does anybody know what they are and what they are doing?

Just done some further research and it looks like it could be the sling shot fair ground ride that they have been using in the show.. interesting

Came back in from TFS last night and there was a large Emsley mobile crane in front of the terminal building along with various other vans. No idea what was going on assume some sort of plant/equipment being lifted onto the roof...

This was published today in the Construction Index on UK Airport News. Makes interesting and perhaps promising reading for the future - lets all hope that it leads to action and doesn't end up gathering dust in a filing cabinet down Whitehall way

A partnership of WSP and Parsons Brinckerhoff has been appointed by the Department for Transport (DfT) to examine options for improving connectivity to Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA).
Adrian Kemp Above: Adrian Kemp

The link to the airport was identified as one of six ‘notorious and longstanding road congestion hotspots’ in a Treasury report, Investing in Britain’s Future, published in June last year.

The team will be studying potential interventions that would substantially improve the connectivity of LBIA to surrounding areas. The study will take account of the aspiration of the airport to grow and will identify the surface-access improvements needed, including highway, public transport and other sustainable modes.

WSP project director Adrian Kemp said: “We will be drawing on the knowledge and expertise of local stakeholders, examining all previous work and proposals and identifying new options in order to come to a recommendation for improving connectivity in this crucial area of the city region. Unlocking these constraints has the potential to significantly improve the wider transport network, keeping the UK on the move and stimulating economic growth both nationally and locally.”

The project will be led from the WSP office in Leeds and will conclude by early August this year.

I don't want to discourage thoughts of works going on in and around the terminal building but your suggestion may be a bit wide of the mark here. The same crane and vans etc was there when we came through last Saturday evening and men were rolling up cables which I presumed was the aftermath of the filming for the Ant & Dec show. It may be that they just haven't got round to moving them yet. I may well be quite wrong so can anyone clarify?

Seems likely. I hadn't realised how much had been done for the Ant & Dec thing which all happened while I was soaking up the sun.

When I arrived to work early Sunday morning the day after the Ant & Dec show, it looked like the full kit used for the television show had already been removed, including the wires which were draped across from the terminal to where the show was being held. I'm not saying the it couldn't have been something to do with the Ant & Dec show but I think it's unlikely. The roof houses numerous air conditioning units and I think it's more likely to be associated with that than the Ant & Deck show..

Does anyone have any idea of any planned investment in the infrastructure at LBA this year?
I'm thinking primarily aircraft stands ect......?

We don't have any clue about what will happen this year scousefowler because LBA have not yet published their Masterplan proposals which they are still working on. There is little doubt that once published it will include additional aircraft stands - and they will have to address the terminal expansion too or face making yet another application to have the planning consent carried over. They are also planning to enhance the arrivals area, with particular reference to that much discussed escalator so as to resolve the H&S issues that prevent its use at the most busy times. Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine. Possibly parallel taxiway at 32 end - it would be sensible to do that at the same time as the additional stands - it's all concrete at the end of the day isn't it? That radar scanner is getting on a bit too, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that replaced at some point. What Bridgepoint have said (repeatedly) is what goes in the plan will be a definite development plan, not just a pie-in-the-sky wishlist that might never happen.

hi w/heather
re new stands
was there talk (some years ago) of moving the fuel farm & the fire station to the west side,if so was this for a taxi way or extra stands.
regards sm1

Agreed the Watchman radar is a little long in the tooth. However I was chatting with one of the Tels team last summer and was assured of its future for at least a few years. It has been modified to protect it from interference from the latest mobile phone frequency spectrum. How long NATS will supply data for the SSR is another matter.

BTW lots of serious digging and earthmoving going on today behind stands 22/24. More car parks or something more useful for aeroplanes ? Who knows...

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
