Does anyone have any information on the possible changes to the front of the terminal? The car rental desks inside the airport entrance are now closed and have been moved the new car rental centre which is accessed by the shuttle bus. I heard today that the old car rental desks will be removed and he front of the terminal will become fully glazed. The information desk will also be re positioned to the main entrance. This is what I have seen/heard today and wondered if anyone else had anymore details on the changes.

On another note, the old Arrow taxi portakabin has been removed and the area has been resurfaced in parts and car parking spaces have been marked out. Does anyone know who will be parking in this area?

Is there any update on this?

Some sort of small builder's compound has been set up in the car park outside the terminal. There was a vehicle there yesterday for a company called HWF Steelwork and there have been various contractors going into the terminal. Does anyone know what work they will be doing? Does is relate to the area around the old car rental desks?

I haven't been inside the terminal for some time. Where are the new car hire desks?

It sounds like some prep work is going to be carried out to facilitate the terminal extension.

Can you keep us updated please?

Yes, I'll keep an eye out for any changes. The car rental desks are now based in a new set of buildings located near the entrance to the Long stay car parks. Passengers now get on the shuttle buses between the terminal and car rental centre.

I was away last week so missed the last consultative meeting but the report issued beforehand said that works were to be undertaken shortly which is (quote) 'Hall A Mezzanine and Terminal Frontage works are about to commence on extending the floor area to Hall A to provide additional capacity to the international departures hall. Work is also about to commence to provide more space internally landside with a view to improving the overall ambience'.

Is that effectively what the planned terminal extension would do except there's no mention of first floor departures?

I don't believe that there will be any physical extension to the building, I think these works are independant from the bigger terminal front extension. From the rumours I've heard (so I may be wrong), but I believe the old car rental desk units will be removed effectivity widening the main entrance between Hall A and International Arrivals. I also heard that the information desk was being moved from it current location to just inside the main entrance. I guess removing the current information desk area will free up more space in Hall A. I hope they replace the two main sliding doors at the main entrance at the same time as they always seem to be breaking down. I will try to take some photos of any work I see going on.

View attachment 3962 New signage has been installed above the main entrance.

Part of the work to be carried out over this winter will be to increase the single storey part of the building after the Saltaire Bar/Restaurant around the lift/escalators to a two storey building to create more floor space for seating, this will extend out over a new mezzanine floor to be built in the gate 5 area. Planning documents and diagrams are avaliable on the Leeds City Council Planning Portal Ref: 16/04973

I will update on this and any other work if I can and when I feel that it is in the public domain and safe for me to share the other details.

Here's some more drawing details regards the Terminal Departure Lounge extension that's going to be built over the winter season and has just been given planning permission by Leeds City Council.

Good news as this should in fact stop some of the complaints regards the lack of seating in the departure lounge area at busy times..

Looks like we can't see those. Don't know if it is just me that has happened to. Anyway in regards to this ... its about time they use that idle space ... always bugs me why on earth it wasn't done with the rest of the terminal re-furb.

I can't see them either Sherburnflyer92. Totally agree though, it's been a long time in coming. It should have been done years ago. Does anybody know if the new mezzanine floor will connect with the other mezzanine floor gate 5 area?

A sensible idea Aviador, moves the congestion from the ground floor in peak summer when you have J2 with their two first wave and swissport with Ryanair wave. However having worked in the terminal, and knowing the airport, they won't do that as it's too much like common sense. Looking at the plans online too ... the stairs are to remain.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
