I don't think they even need to be in the same alliance. I checked my bags from HAU to LBA and that was SAS (StarAlliance) and KLM (FlyingBlue). Going the other way I have to re-check my bag at Oslo, but that's an entry to Norway thing, not a change of airline/alliance thing.

Quite interesting stewief1.
At one time I would have said pigs might fly before we see AF at LBA.
I did read somewhere that they used to hate LBA.
Having said that, they did bring the first Concorde in so never can tell. Especially now with the industry changing so fast.

Although Concorde Lover, the article did mention that the routes are being made easier to operate, by only using one aircraft type, the A320. It would be pretty stupid for them to use subsidiaries who could only operate the service with the A320 - Even in these economic times, I don't think airlines can be that choosey.

From what the article says, it hints that all the 'new' routes are to be operated by the A320 and so I first thought that they would use their own. They have around a dozen on order, so we could see them source some-more for when they introduce more routes, if the new operations are to be wide-spread.

OFF TOPIC
I am not sure now, but last year I couldn't check my bags through if I had flown BMi from MAN to LHR and then BA to Montreal. It had to be with Air Canada. The star alliance was also cheaper, and I could book my seat for free as soon as I booked the flight, whereas with BA I had to pay, or wait until 1 week before departure if I wanted to choose a seat for free.

Anyway, this is starting to go off topic now so back to rumours..............!

Are airline alliances not relatively new? Well certainly in the last 15 years surely.

I would be absoulutely flabbergasted if Air France made an appearance at LBA. It would appear from the press release that Air France are looking at gaining market share from the French based low cost airlines. It also mentions departing passengers rather than arriving passengers - I see LBA - France as more of an English departure point. The model AF are looking at does not take interlining into account so through passengers at CDG is not their point of interest - if it were we would be looking at 3+ flights a day with smaller aircraft using a regional partner such as Brit Air rather than 1 a day with an A320. Plus, does the demand call for an A320 and 737 service a day? Jet2 certainly do not think so having dropped the 2nd daily flight many moons ago.

As far as non Paris routes go, Nice is dropping frequency with Jet2, Nantes is being advertised in the paper by Ryanair (which is almost unheard of) which leaves Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille & Strasbourg and I would be very surprised to hear that any of those routes would fill an A320.

I think AF at LBA is very unlikely.

An AF franchise operation into CDG is the main target for the airport. Flybe are as good a candidate as anyone but I don't think they are in an expansive mood at the moment as far as the UK is concerned.

Spoke to a friend of mine today and he said that rumor has it Jet2.com is to relaunch flights to Newquay. The flights are to be operated from Belfast, Glasgow, Leeds/Bradford & Manchester. Glasgow, Leeds/Bradford & Manchester are to replace flights that Air Southwest currently operate. Anyone else heard this.

I haven't heard anything Concorde Lover, would be good if the rumour materialises though!
The Newquay route will also replace the current BmiBaby MAN-Newquay route as well.

I didn't see why Jet2 stopped the route, if it was load figures they will have nothing to worry about now, they will probably get all of AirSouthWest's 'left-behind's'.

If they do decide to go a head with it i can see them operating like before, 3 times a week from LBA and possibly MAN and GLA while BFS is operated 2 times a week.

Anyone know what is currently going on with the New York route, it's just LBA is meant to be in negotiations with Continental airways, to operate to Newark using, in my opnion it will be the 757, I praying that happens. If this does happen it will be good news for the airport seeming that PIA are pulling out.

I agree completely, a New York route would be extremely beneficial to the Yorkshire region, the only problem I can see is that Continental only have 2 daily services from Manchester using the Boeing 757-200 so there is no where near the capacity of their Dubai route (another long haul contender). I am however reasonably confident that LBA could support a daily B752.

Not daily. 3/4 weekly. Anyway before that we need a link to London aswell as mediteranian capacity increasing, oh an alongside more winter sun destinations. Long way to go.

While I fully believe the LBA catchment area could support a route to New York (assuming it had onward connections), and with Tony Hallwood being in control after his success at BRS, I do still believe such a route may be some way off at the moment.

As has been posted, MAN currently has 2xdaily CO flights (along with others), and I would have thought that a proportion of those passengers will have O&Ds in Yorkshire. The problem is that if they were to open an LBA service, would that impact on their MAN operations and result in them spreading themselves too thinly? The BRS uptake seemed to have been good, yet the route was pulled some time ago. Is it really a likely option in the short to medium term?

Would love to see long-haul in that form at LBA, but I personally dont envisage it for quite some time yet, at least until the market picks up fully again and there is a wider range of short-haul city routes withing Europe that builds up critical mass.

So here we go the Continental and Emirates rumors have started once again. And so we have gone full cycle and i wonder how far they will lead this time.

I myself, Well I just don't see either service's happening anytime soon from LBA. The airport really needs to start looking at adding more short haul routes into Europe, to places like Frankfurt, Madrid, Copenhagen and so on first before they even think about long haul service's to either the USA or the Middle East.

Well said lbaspotter. Frankfurt or Munich with bmi to connect into the Star Alliance networks would work far better at the present time.

That's it's with the airport, it all about short haul, how does that really benefit the airport?. The airport needs to introduce long haul, forget PIA to Islamabad there not worth it that airline needs to get it self sorted, we need to offer these flights to take the passengers back from MAN.

Also when the route goes ahead i say it should be operated 6 times a week, Monday to Saturday, with no service on a Sunday.

Also for the 2x daily to Newark they could either do two tactics with this.

1) Drop the flights from Man to daily but introduce the 767 on the route instead, then introduce the 757 6X weekly at LBA (unlikely option)

2) Operate the 757 into MAN twice daily with one flight in a morning and one in evening, Then in the afternoon they operate the 757 into LBA ( More likely option)

These are my opinions on how the operations of both could be done, but you may have over ideas.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
