Rumours about new destinations or airlines?

Galaxy, Santorini isn't showing as a destination so I think you might be confused, but on the Thomas Cook website, Skiathos isn't either now, the only new route on that list is Kefalonia. To add as well I don't think we can look at this for the moment as being reliable as; Enfidha, Heraklion, Rhodes and Zakynthos are not bookable on the website anymore.

If members have been looking on the flythomascook website and have seen routes on here, then this is totally unreliable, as more or less every destination/airport they fly to is in here such as; Aberdeen, Norwich, Mombassa etc.

I looked two days ago and Santorini was definitely there.but in any case I've just got back from Thomas Cook in Moor Allerton, (booked a week in Marmaris for Easter) and was told that there will definitely not be any flights to Santorini from Leeds this year and that their website was unreliable. So I got all excited for nothing.

Although there was an additional stop at Athens on the way back for fuel, not sure if this is standard or was a one-off.

[offtopic]Flights from JSI may have to stop over for a fuel stop depending on the type of aircraft. A319,A320,A321 & 737 all have to stop for a fuel stop, 98% of the time,but the 757-200 isn't required to down to, the engines being powerful enough to get the aircraft off the runway with the suitable amount fuel, along with passengers and baggage, for the journey to the UK.[/offtopic]

TCX routes to Heraklion and Zakythos are still bookable from LBA this morning on the http://www.thomascook.com website also Kefalonia remains in the system but is still not bookable and Alicante (Costa Blanca) has now reappeared on the site as a destination from LBA

I think you'll find that Enfidha-Tunisia is not bookable in the summer as it only runs from February to late April.

It sure dose look like Santorini will not be offered this summer as it has disappeared from there website along with Rhodes (Which was using Jet2). I guess we will just have to wait and see what fills the based aircraft flying programme using the current spare Thursday afternoon and Saturday overnight slots. As the website seem very unreliable at the moment as i understand its going though a big upgrade..

Why is the Enfdiha flights only running for 2 months? seems very short, does anybody know why this is?

Aegean did operate from Santorini to a double drop at Bristol and Birmingham using 737s in summer for a year or two around 2005-2007.[/offtopic]

Okay, i've just posted in the Thomas Cook forum without reading this, but what they hell do they do at Thomas Cook each day! They only have one flipping aircraft at Leeds! How hard is it to work out a plan and put it on the website.

If it is this hard for aviation enthusiasts to actually work out what routes they are flying from LBA, god help the people who actually want to go on their holidays! Thomas Cook should have had summer 2012 finalised well over 6 months ago and stick to it. No matter what website upgrades are going on, they should not be doing it at this time of the year. The first week in January until mid Feb are the busiest time for taking summer bookings after the post christmas blues. Any company in the right mind would have their website fully operational and tested in December!

So if Rhodes has gone from the list, and re-appears in a weeks time, how many hundreds of lost bookings? No wonder they are loosing however many million a day!

I've just heard a whisper that a Monarch 757 will be operating LBA - JSI on behalf of Thomas Cook. I'm not sure if this will be direct or via another UK airport en route.

I wonder if the chances of Emirates coming to LBA are increasing. Dubai is certainly growing in popularity as a resort and a hub. Glasgow is now going twice daily.

Maybe they might look again when they get the Boeing 787 or Airbus A350 which can go further from a short runway.

Surely LBA Dubai is easily reachable with the A330-200. Flying time approx 6hours 50min. About half the range for the A330.

Emirates have stated that they don't plan to order the 787 Dream liner as it's not powerful enough for there operations, they did state they would consider it providing that the engines are more powerful enough on the 787-1000, if this series goes into production. Also i don't think their keen due the 787 not having fly by technology like all Airbus aircraft and the 777, as far as i am aware.

A330 being phased out of the Emirates fleet.

Replacement aircraft are the 777 and A350, when it eventually comes into service.


If they were to operate into LBA it wouldn't surprise me if they operate into the airport using a Boeing 777-200LR. Doubtful though.

I guess it all depends on how big they intend to grow and also on what their competitors plan to do. If another airline comes in to offer regional departures from airports such as Leeds Bradford offering similar connections with decent aircraft then Emirates may need to reconsider their regional operations and departure points.

You said it Concorde Lover, If they were to ever operate into LBA then the B772 would be the chosen aircraft. I wonder that if PIA ever bring in the B772, then this could spur Emirates to consider operations a lot deeper, or even the other way round knowing PIA.

I think that by far Emirates have the UK in the bag when it comes to Dubai, and onward connections. They have grown so quickly up and down the country, and I think that Qatar and Etihad being 'the other two' they don't really get a look-in. I do hope such a route materialises.
You never know, they may decide to operate out of LBA, in stead of creating NCL twice daily!

Even if lba managed to attract emirates in would there be sufficient demand to make a daily operation work from yorkshire with them been at man and ncl, and does lba have the facilities to handle such an operation?? I really hope we do see the day when emirates are in and out of lba everyday but while they are 50 mile down the road at man twice daily I just can't see it happening! (without trying to be too negative )

A Boeing 777 would be Cat 1 only due to runway length and the aircraft weight, so during the winter it would very likely we would have quite a few diversions. I have noted how many times we are either out of crosswind limits or below Cat 1 visibility criteria when the Emirates or Qatar are going into Manchester and its unfortunately a lot of times.

A UK carier should be announcing some UK expansion this coming week, which should hopefully include the return of an Irish destination to the LBA route network.

Don't think it will be ryanair, could be Flybe after all they are keen to expand operations at Leeds.
