Re: Rumours

Going by the dry Prune, its 4 Qantas 767-300ER.

This is quite plausible as they have 29 of these birds, however with the impeding delays to the 787, this might not happen as soon as we think.

Like most things Grey and Red, lets belive it when we see it :D

Re: Rumours

It looks like the rumour is another one of those rumours that goes around each year a little bit like the Easyjet rumour which is on it's fourth or fifth cycle. If the rumour is true, we know that the 767-300 series does have operational limitations exit LBA.

Re: Rumours

Lets hope these are true rumours then. How do we know they are being painted down at Stansted...is that reliable?

Re: Rumours

That was originally mentioned in a newspaper article last autumn if I remember correctly. There's still time for the route to be announced but I'd say it's probably unlikely at the moment.

Re: Rumours

Rumours suggesting that Austrian Airlines personnel were seen walking around the airport yesterday. Don't know if anything will come of it.

I would very much doubt it. OS are in a lot of difficulties at the moment, and the takeover by LH is being delayed by competition concerns. If/when that happens they will probably have a focus on Eastern Europe/Central Asia for any future expansion. And if they couldnt make MAN-Vienna work, I would be shocked if they could get LBA-Vienna to work. Compare Vienna to AMS as a hub from the UK, and Vienna and it very far out of the way for Amercian connections. Plus Vienna doesn't have a great long haul network to connect onto to Asia either

I agree Humberside. Also, the Austrian Arrows subsidary struggles of late to fill the Fokker 100. That may just be route choice...INN? Or a sign of demand for us to travel that way. The only thing i could see attracting people is their long haul network, however, with AMS numerous times a day, KLM/Air France seems to be taking control there.

Re: Rumours

This months airliner world contains several big hints into up-& coming routes / developments at LBA. To name but afew, PIA 777, transatlantic link by 2012, germany & scandanavia (Frankfurt talks well underway), new terminal opens spring 2011... LBA TO GET A NEW NAME!

Its a good read so grab yasens a copy.

I can't imagine LBA called anything els but if the name is changed then maybe Yorkshire International??? or David Hockney???

The transatlantic link sounds exciting, PIA, 777 to Toronto would be a winner I'm sure.

Re: Rumours

I would hate it and object really strongly if 'Leeds' was ever removed from the name of the airport. All big cities pride themselves on having their own airport in this country and abroad. If we have London Heathrow/Gatwick, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Paris, Frankfurt etc etc, why on Earth would we want an airport that doesn't take the name of the city it is located in? Personally, I would love to see it just called Leeds International, (apologies to those of a Bradford persuasion), but in reality, this might just be journalism making assumptions. Bridgepoint signed an agreement as part of the purchase deal that they would not change the name of the airport, and the airport MD has stated more than once that there are no plans or reasons to do so.

I would imagine that removing Bradford from the name might actually backfire with regard to the PIA route for example. People abroad have no real concept of our counties so Yorkshire will mean little to many of them. Even East Midlands appears to have recognised that an airport has to bear the name of a city and have changed its name to Nottingham East Midlands.

As for adding the name of a famous celebrity - frankly I would not like that either but that is just my opinion. How do we decide who is famous enough or has done enough to warrant an airport being named after them. There are many from this area who are famous, but not many in my book that warrant an airport in their honour.

Re: Rumours

I would hope the airport just became "Leeds" because Leeds Bradford does sound abit dated and tacky. These days alot of passengers, travel agents and even crew refer to the airport as Leeds.

I did quite like the idea of Yorkshire at one stage but since the the "Yorkshire airlines" video lol, i think not.

The new names does not need to have "international" in it either, years ago it was the done thing but basically it was just what small airports did to make them sound big lol.

My only hope is that we dont end up with something like Durham or Doncaster.

I hear Oxford has just got a new name, London Oxford which has caused alot of upset.

Re: Rumours

I seem to recall that the names Leeds and Bradford had to be retained in the name of the airport because it was a specific clause in the contract not to remove them when Bridgpoint bought the airport. I suspect it was Bradford council that went to the trouble to negotiate this into the agreement, but I think the result is they are stuck with the name.

OK here is a new one for you!

Just prior to last weeks press release to the YEP reporting that a Toronto service was almost "in the bag", someone at the airport told me that Jet2 were imminently announcing a Canadian service!

Thoughts anyone?

Remember my post from a while back? I wonder if there's any truth in that rumour now that the idea of Jet2 getting Boeing 767's seems more likely? I know Toronto is within range of LBA with the Boeing 757's but the Boeing 767 makes the route look even more plausible.

"almost in the bag"... is that a bag with major holes at the bottom of it? However, on this occasion i can see jet2 operating this route, although i would of preffered Air Transat to fly in daily with their A310-300's!

"imminently announcing" means pretty soon, and this was in last weeks YEP? Shouldnt something of materialised by now?

If true, it could be that Jet2 are having problems sourcing 1 or 2 half decent 767's with the right power plants for LBA.
I dont suppose they would consider the A330-200 as this may also be ok but non-Boeing and more expensive.

Probably a total coincidence this but on the dried plum site there is a rumour that BMI are about to announce a Dresden service (doesn't say where from though).

Given BMI's certain penchant for giving us weird destinations such as Lille, who knows!!

Well thats for you to decide. I'm not saying much more on the subject than i've ready said as its still only a rumour and may not be true what i've been told. Hey as you most likley know a rumour is only a rumour until something is officially announced or not

There again if it is ture, Well good look to the airline and LBIA in trying to market it...

well if it was bmi then the route wouldnt last that long then..i hope its someone like ryan air or jet2 at least they would make a go of it.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
