I don't know whether to be excited or not at these posts. The thought of a decent route to Germany - exciting. The thought of it being Dresden - not exciting as it probably won't last 6 months. The thought of BMi doing Dresden - depressing.

I was hoping for a rumour to get excited about as it seems to be very gloomy at the moment on the LBA front. (Ryanair and Jet2 excepted of course)

I agree with Heather, i cant see DRS lasting too long at LBA. I think in terms of German routes one of the priorities has got to be Frankfurt, whether that be FRA or HHN? Berlin and Munich are also not served which is a shame, whichh are all in my opinion a safer option from LBA...at least for now.

If Bmi are planning to operate DRS, why would they choose LBA if they havent decided yet which airport, all we know is it could be UK?

I can see BMI doing this route, because they are very good at launching routes from LBA that don't work.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I’d appreciate some feedback. As part of my dissertation I have to look at an airport project and I’m concentrating on how Bridgepoint will reach the 5mppa projection by 2012. In reality it will never happen in their given timescale but these are the route proposals I have included in the project in order of priority:

Frankfurt - could be op 3x daily on a bmi Embraer or twice daily on a Flybe DH8
Munich - 5x weekly by Jet2 on B733
Madrid - 4x weekly by Ryanair on a B738
Paris - 3x daily by Air France/Brit Air regional jet
Funcal – 1x weekly by Jet2 on a B733 (TCX allocation?)
Almeria - 3x weekly by Ryanair on a B738
Lahore – 2x weekly by PIA on an A310
Copenhagen - once daily on a Flybe DH8
Wroclaw - 3x weekly by Ryanair on a B738
Hamburg - 4x weekly by Ryanair on a B738
Kos - 1x weekly by Jet2 on a B752 (TCX allocation?)
Toronto - 1x weekly by Air Transat on an A310
Las Palmas - 1x weekly by Jet2 a on B752
Poznan – 3x weekly by Ryanair on a B738
Turin – 3x weekly by Ryanair on a B738
Zurich – 1x daily by Flybe on a DH8
Kefalonia – 1x weekly by Jet2 on a B752 (TCX allocation?)
Reus – 2x weekly by Jet2 on a B733 (TCX allocation?)
Verona – 1x weekly by Jet2 on a B733 (TCX allocation?)
Split – 1x weekly by Jet2 on B733
Valencia – 2x weekly by Ryanair on B738
Bologna – 3x weekly by Ryanair on a B738
Guernsey – 2x weekly by Flybe on DH8
Luxor (Winter) – 1x weekly by Jet2 on a B752 (TCX allocation?)

A based Thomson Airways B738 during the summer operating the following;

Monday: Dalaman (Turkey), Bodrum (Turkey)
Tuesday: Tenerife, Alicante
Wednesday: Larnaca (Cyprus), Rhodes, Ibiza
Thursday: Arrecife (Lanzarote), Palma
Friday: Mahon, Corfu, Heraklion (Crete)
Saturday: Antayla, Las Palmas (Gran Canaria),
Sunday: Faro, Palma, Burgas (Bulgaria)

Additional capacity on the following routes;

Sharm el Sheikh – additional weekly B752 by Jet2
Krakow – additional twice weekly by Ryanair
Mahon – additional weekly B733 by Jet2
Newquay – direct route in the summer by ASW
Milan BGY – additional weekly B733
Rome – additional weekly B733
Barcelona – additional twice weekly B733 to bring it back to daily
Monastir – Jet2 to run through the winter

Thoughts?

Some good new routes there! If only they could be operated in real life!
Not really sure what your looking for in terms of opinions etc

I do think that your based Thomson 738 would be working its arse off though! wednesdays and fridays could be too much in 24 hours!

Some very good routes mentioned above, I would certainly like to see Toronto back I remember Wardair operating the route succesfully. Another route i would like to see is Dubai, as i believe Newcastle do very well with that route operated by Emirates good for connections in the Middle East.

When you look at these lists, I can honestly say that they are a damn sight more realistic than some of the routes that we have seen. I mean...Albert???...Lille???

Dresden???? :reallyshocked:

Lots of good routes listed lbia - some of which we have had before and lost. Nothing to Scandinavia other than Copenhagen? I don't see why MAN should get Finland all to itself and NCL has just got Oslo

Agreed...bring on Gothenberg, Stockholm Skavsta, Oslo Rygge, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Stavanger.

NEW destinations and a strong marketing campaign are key to Leeds Bradford International Airport’s (LBIA) success, according to its commercial and aviation director.

Speaking at an event held by the Met Club in Leeds, Tony Hallwood said further new routes at LBIA would be announced in the spring.

He said that one of the major challenges ahead was that more people were currently driving across the Pennines to use Manchester Airport than using LBIA and that he would be working hard to reverse the trend.

Mr Hallwood said: “Leeds is the third largest UK city, yet the airport is only 16th in terms of passenger numbers. The current terminal building is outdated but a new £28m development will provide an iconic statement of what LBIA means to the Leeds City Region.

“By the end of this summer we will also deliver a new online strategy alongside increasing our marketing profile to enhance awareness of our increasing destination choice and improve the external perception of Yorkshire’s international gateway airport.”

He added: “Our customers tell us they want better facilities and we are now addressing that but business leaders are also saying that they also want improved connectivity to cities across Europe to deliver improved business links to support the Yorkshire economy.

“We are confident that we can deliver an airport that the Leeds City Region can feel proud of.”

Mr Hallwood arrived at Leeds Bradford in April 2008 after five years at Bristol International Airport where he took passenger numbers from 3.5m to 6m.

He was also instrumental in introducing a range of new airlines including Ryanair and introducing the very first direct flights from the West Country to the US with Continental Airlines.

The airport has already started an adverstising campaign, which I heard for the first time on Minster FM yesterday. Quite a decent advert too, around 30 seconds and all airport relating rather than airline.

I strongly suspect we will see more from Ryanair for winter 2010/11 to destinations already served by Jet2 such as Tenerife but routes like that should have a strong enough market from LBA to sustain more frequent flights there.

The press were filming at LBA yesterday but I didn't see anything on the TV so I suspect there could be an embargo until whatever it is goes public.

I notice it's all gone quiet about this rumoured German route. Can we write this one off yet?

Yes we can now right off this rumour. Seen that the bmi group announced 2 new german routes from East Midlands Airport last week. Even though these will be operated by bmi baby, A LBA german route was going to be to Dresden and was ment to be operated by an bmi regional, Embrear.

LBA to Dresden???

My word, that would be a dream come true for me (and a lot of Dresden / Leipzig students in Leeds) - I'd never even heard the rumour, but presume from your post that it's now not going to come to fruition?

The Dresden rumour has been scotched. It's a Heathrow route instead.

Are you saying there is a LBA-LHR rumour, or that Dresden was ex LHR?

If its the first, can you say more?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
