Where have you heard that? It's 4x weekly during the summer, so must be doing OK for them. Although how viable it is on an E75 rather than E95 is questionable.

Cant say much as would get some one in big trouble. Its a reliable word, but as I said hope its wrong.I would not want to travel to Faro on a dash 8. There might be some legs in the story. Time will tell.Hope you understand I cant say a lot more avout it.

Word on the street Faro is stopping.. I will try to find out more about it. Hope its wrong as it gives FR a bit of compition.
I'd be very surprised at that but if Faro does get dropped (remembering that with the exception of CDG after September the other European routes aren't onsale) and currently it's onsale, then that would be the last route that needs a jet aircraft as the others could be operated by the Q400. I'd also have thought that the airport would then be able to get Ryanair to add a frequency and maybe even TUI as they use Flybe for 10 and 11 day packages.

A very interesting day with the BE takeover. BE were rumoured to be losing a lot of money per hour in the end, primarily from a rather high cost base.

DUB is also now an interesting proposition, which given Stobarts involvement may allow room for the Aer Lingus Regional franchise back in on DUB, feeding long haul at DUB too ! Not bad value for the end consumer with regular feed to CDG, DUB and (possibly, and i’d say likely) MAN - Watch this space !

IF, and a very big if, CWL gains an MAN flight, it would be interesting to see if Virgin Holidays push people to book CWL-MAN-XXX rather than flying from LGW or even LHR. I would hope that at least half a Q400 could be filled each day with Welsh accents going on holiday. Then topped up with people just going to Manchester. The mix of routes are very similar currently between LGW and MAN, mainly beach routes not offered from LHR, with the odd East coast and West coast routes, so MAN maybe be more attractive than trekking to LGW, and take less time.

With Virgin Holidays they do offer packages using Qatar to Africa, Asia and the Middle East so maybe they would consider it. The only thing maybe customers reluctance to go through a connecting airport especially if they had small children but couples or families with older children might not be as bothered. I do think for it to be an attractive option the connection times would have to be good and not have a big layover for people and the transit would need to be as hassle free as possible.

Perhaps it ought to think of Flybe staff jobs before what connecting routes will work or not work. If the take over of Flybe goes through then routes and other departments will get sorted and hopefully staff will be sorted out ok.
In my book staff always come first to be sorted, but lots of cases that does not happen.

Rose tinted spectacles I'm afraid, would be wonderful if that was to happen but unfortunately theres fat chance just about every business treats employees as a commodity despite all the lip service the pay in public its the way of the world.

The only way to look at Flybe's situation is that at least some employees will come out of it O.K. as opposed to the alternative which looks like liquidation then everyone is knackered.

Yes unfortunately in situations like this the staff on the 'shop floor' are usually the biggest casualties. Hopefully when the takeover happens the airline will see some stability and any job losses will be at a minimum as every time I've flown with Flybe the staff have always been great!

The way the company has been led, especially in recent years, brings to mind the First World War comment about the British Infantry being lions led by donkeys, so incompetent were the generals. In fact, similar sentiments can be traced all the way back to Ancient Greece and Arabia where strong leadership was exulted.

I've taken a look at the Flybe base since its opening in June 2015 and the number of based aircraft and seats available.
The based aircraft (roughly) since opening are as follows:

Jun-15: 1x E195
Sep-15: 2x E195
-------
Sep-16: 2x E195, 1x DH8D
Oct-16: 2x E195
Nov-16: 2x E195, 1x DH8D
-------
-------
Apr-18: 2x E195, 1x E175
Jun-18: 1x E195, 2x E175
-------
Jan-19: 3x E175

Due to the recent change to 3x E175s, the base will have less departing seats each week until January 2020. The period with the biggest lost of seats is from now until June this year.
Jan-Apr 2019 has 3x E175s based vs 2x E195s/1x DH8D based in the same period in 2018.
Apr-Jun 2019 has 3x E175s based vs 2x E195s/1x E175 based in the same period in 2018.
Jun 2019-Jan 2020 has 3x E175s based vs 1x E195s/2x E175 based in the same period in 2018/19.
(E195 - 118 seats, E175 - 88 seats, DH8D - 78 seats)

Looking at the current August schedule for 2019 vs 2018 the base will have 3x E175s based vs 1x E195/2x E175s.
Based on this, and assuming the Flybe take-over doesn't change the schedule;
2019 will see 2 less flights per week during peak-summer, and 852 less departing seats per week vs 2018
*(I haven't included the Eastern Airways flights to NCL/ABZ and VLY, although these have also seen a reduction in flights)

The current routes to be operated in August 2019 and their weekly frequency are as follows:

EDI - 17x weekly (+4 on 2018)
DUB - 14x weekly
BHD - 11x weekly
CDG - 11x weekly (+1 on 2018)
GLA - 5x weekly
FAO - 4x weekly (-1 on 2018)
JER - 3x weekly
FCO - 2x weekly
MUC - 2x weekly
MXP - 2x weekly (-1 on 2018)
ORK - 2x weekly
VCE - 2x weekly
VRN - 2x weekly

Cancelled routes
GCI - operated 2x weekly AT75
TXL - operated 2x weekly E175
DUS - operated 1x weekly E175

Notes:
EDI
will see 292 and GLA 10 more departing seats per week.
BHD, DUB, FAO, JER, MXP and ORK all see less departing seats per week on top of the 3x cancelled routes.
Therefore, based on the current schedule, each week in Summer 2019 will see 852 less departing seats per week vs the same period in 2018.

Will be interesting to see which Flybe routes grow next summer and which don't. Thank you Severn for your excellent analysis!
And if I'm honest come September i wouldn't be surprised if we see the E175s replaced with 3 Q400s.

If they are going to advertise a flight then it might be good that they got the right days! :ROFLMAO:

I noticed your reply to this Jerry on Twitter. They don't seem to be on the ball when it comes to replying to people on there. I often see questions getting asked to their twitter handle and never see any response.
They can be a bit hit and miss with answers. I imagine it's probably because 1 person handles the account and has another job as well.

I'm still a bit confused by the stopping of MUC, MXP, VCE, VRN and FCO in Sep/Oct. Having looked at the schedule for Oct, these flights have simply been removed from the normal summer schedule, with nothing replacing them or no time changes to the other routes, meaning 3 aircraft are still required which will just sit on the ground where the gaps were.
The reductions are:
Monday - MUC 10:10
Tuesday - FCO 11:10, VCE 11:30
Wednesday - MXP 10:10, VRN 14:10
Thursday - No reductions, full schedule for each aircraft
Friday - MUC 14:00
Saturday - VCE 0630, FCO 07:00, MXP 12:40, VRN 15:25
Sunday - GLA 08:05

On a Saturday there is now only a requirement for 1 aircraft all day (DUB - CDG - FAO)
Given the decent loads on the Italian routes i'm surprised they are all just being dropped with nothing to replace them. I can't see how they were losing that much money that it's better to leave the aircraft parked up doing nothing. Even if FAO does get dropped as rumoured, there is still a requirement for 3 aircraft during the week. Although all routes left could be operated by the Q400 then, the other issue is all of the crew would be trained on the Embraer.

It is odd. Even if the base went over to Q400s they'd still need 1 jet to operate Faro as it stands. So they'd end up with a small mixed base. I think the cabin crew would be ok as they are trained on both types. I do wonder if they may be short of pilots so after September have had to drop the longer routes due to potential hours issues?

The deal for Flybe to be sold is going through. The deal will be signed sealed and settled by the 22nd feb. More details about it yet to be released.

It's weird that CWL has seen such a reduction and other airports are not, maybe they were in plan before the sale but it seems unlikely as they all had great loads. The only problem is their isn't another airline to fill the routes with the correct size planes which Flybe had. The German routes could be picked up by BMI but with BRS so close it makes it unlikely.

If i remember correctly these routes weren't loaded up when the rest of the summer came out. It is possible that the E-jet base is under review and September is the time it would change to Q400 if they are going to do it but the problem i see is that Rome, Venice and Verona finish on the 7/9/19, Munich 6/9/19 but Milan doesn't finish till 28/9/19. It is odd. This is the current utilisation for Summer 2019.
Looking at it with the routes ending in September the base could operate at 1 E175 and 2 Q400s until the end of the month but to me that doesn't make sense to do that.
