Severnside airport does usually pop up now and then but it's a dead project that'll never happen but that doesn't stop it getting brought up usually in the argument to shut Cardiff down.
It would never get the green stamp of approval in this day and age. Plus the UK gov are far more interested in expanding Heathrow.

I always think even if money and the environment wasn’t an issue, the wind would be a massive problem on an island airport. The bridges are often closed to high sided vehicles in bad weather so I can’t imagine a runway open to the elements would fare much better.

I don’t even think it was ever proposed as an island though. It was either one side of the Severn or the other i believe. But it's something that just won't ever happen.

Lee Smith Head of Business Development talking about Cardiffs growth

I wonder if BRS will object to the £169 million of pubic money from HM Government and local authorities, allocated to Doncaster Sheffield for its re-opening.

I doubt they will but I'm surprised LeedsBradford owners haven't challenged it. But for Cardiff it might be something the Welsh government can point to as an example.

Apparently there is another council meeting in November to final sign it off ? 2 months way could be interesting, with Reform who have council seats in the area apparently.

WalesOnline article includes a quote from MS Andrew RT Davies naturally he blames the Welsh government.
"Welsh Conservative Senedd member Andrew RT Davies said: "The chief executive leaving the pitch is a vote of no-confidence in Welsh Government’s ownership of Cardiff Airport.
Spencer Birns has always done his best at Cardiff Airport, where facilities are second to none, but the lack of direction from Welsh Government has led to a non-return of airlines and a brutal decline in passenger numbers. If we’re going to see this key economic asset gain real strength we need to see a change of ownership and better direction so talented people like Mr Birns aren’t walking away."
Its been nearly 6 months since Spencer Birns stepped down and Cardiff hasn't got a permanent replacement yet. Is that something to be concerned about?

That’s good to read. Cardiff often pops up in comments and reviews as being friendly and calm to travel through. I’ve always found it helpful and particularly good if you have young children. The size means you don’t have far to go when getting from security and through to your gate.

After reading the comments on that article, clearly the two people commenting should be given jobs at the airport because they seem to know it all. 🫣

Small airports being less busy tend to be a less stressful environment. Definitely a noticeable difference between checking in at Schiphol last week and LeedsBradford! I've always found Cardiff pretty easy to use.

As for the comments usual anti devolution lot who lets face it would be screaming if the Welsh government had shut the place during the pandemic with all the resulting job losses. Including at BAMC and St Athan.

Travel Weekly reporting that the strikes at Bournemouth Airport have been called off to allow a ballot to take place so we are unlikely to European cargo flights this week.

Cardiff Airport has appointed a new CEO. Jon Bridges ex head of Brains brewery. No aviation experience but experience in hospitality and transport. Will be interesting to see where he takes the airport.

Interesting choice, particularly as there’s no airport experience. Looking at his Linked In, I couldn’t see what the transport experience was in. I would think a lot of his skills are transferable when it comes to negotiating, building rapport with airlines, and generally managing a large organisation.

It just says he's done an advisory role on a board which could mean anything i suppose.
Maybe it's me but someone with a hospitality background and non aviation background could potentially mean a bit more focus on the ancillary side of the business and the non aviation side to increase revenue from different areas of the business and maybe utilise the airport site more.

When it’s a race to the bottom in what you can charge airlines, other revenue streams are vital.

Yes that's true. In a way it's unfortunate that previous CWL management didn't focus on non passenger revenue sooner.
As for the new CEO on another site it's been stated that he was connected to Transport for Wales so maybe that's where the transport experience comes from.

Thanks for that. Looks like there’s plenty of winter expansion possibilities with TUI given they will have an aircraft sat around for half the day (some days)

Remember though that's how they operate in the winter so I can't see them adding much more in the future. Only real hope for future winter expansion now is Ryanair.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
