Thanks for that User001. Sorry, I was basing the list on routes which haven't yet opened for sale or have recently announced. I think I missed a few other new routes for this year on the Monarch list as well as I was only looking at routes which haven't yet started, operation wise.

But thanks anyway.. :good:

No problem. All the easyjet routes are now operating. The last one to come online was Madrid on 2nd November.
Allthe routes due to start this year are now in operation except Austrian which starts on 16th Dec. Next years starts again with SAS to Bergen on 6th Jan.
After that the routes i personally know about are 4 routes from monarch, 8 or so from Ryanair, Aeroflot to Moscow, United to Washington, 7 or so from Jet2, royal air Maroc to Casablanca, Lufthansa to Berlin and a 3rd daily from Etihad.

Some good words for the airport up north today:

Combining the networks of Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways reveals that London Heathrow is by far the best served airport in Europe in terms of weekly frequencies. Between them, the MEB3 carriers operate 12 daily flights to Europes busiest airport. In second place, maybe somewhat unexpectedly is Manchester airport, also in the UK, with a total of seven daily flights.

However, last years 8% growth was enough to make Manchester to Dubai the biggest international route from any UK regional airport

easyJet move terminals at Manchester Airport

easyJet will move its Manchester Airport operations from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 today. The move comes as a result of the budget airline’s growth at the airport, which has seen it treble the size of its Manchester-based fleet and add 20 new routes since launching at the airport in 2008, including five new routes this year.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK commercial manager said: ‘We’re thrilled to be marking our growth at Manchester by moving our ever-expanding operation to the airport’s flagship terminal. The move will improve the experience of our passengers flying from Manchester and allow us to continue our programme of expansion. To celebrate the move to T1, easyJet’s new special edition orange plane - painted to mark the airline’s 200th aircraft delivery - will land at Manchester Airport today. '

easyJet currently flies to 26 destinations from Manchester Airport including the recently launched flights to Berlin, Belfast and Madrid.

Does anyone know what work was been carried out on R1 last night (12/12/11) as I arrived around half 11 onto R2 and could see the work in progress and R1 closed. Thanks.

Whippet delays Manchester airport flights

Manchester is the UK's fourth busiest airport
An escaped whippet forced a runway at Manchester airport to close on Saturday, managers have confirmed.

A flight from Turkey was diverted to Birmingham and a dozen other flights were delayed as airport staff spent 40 minutes chasing the animal.

The racing pedigree dog stole away during a walk and slipped past a manned access point into a cargo area.

An alarm was raised to stop take-offs and landings after the animal was spotted at 10:40 GMT.

Gary Brown, the airport's duty manager, said it took staff some time to catch the dog.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "It took some time to catch it. The airfield is obviously quite a big area.

"Because of the delay there was a build up of flights and we had to suspend a Turkish Airways flight from Istanbul. It was diverted to Birmingham, refuelled and has now made its way up here.

"Basically, if there is any lost animal on the runway, we have to stop all flights straight away. Fortunately, we've cleared the backlog."

There were delays at the airport on Friday after 3mm of snow fell at the UK's fourth busiest airport.

I can't believe people take racing dogs walking around perimeters of airports. Isn't that just asking for trouble? Surely racing dogs will chase anything if they're stupid enough to chase a woolly rag around a racetrack?

So looks like passengers will have to pay £1 or €2 coin for baggage trollies, which will be non-refundable starting 10th April at Manchester Airport along with the £2 charge for parking for 30 mins to pick up passengers.

Changes to Manchester Airport’s trolley service

Changes to Manchester Airport's trolley service

Manchester Airport is to invest over £1 million in replacing its ageing luggage trolleys, a change that, from April, will see passengers insert £1 or €2 coin to access them, which will be non-refundable.

The new trolleys are lighter, easier to manoeuvre and GPS-enabled allowing ‘hot spot’ areas to be adequately stocked so there is a trolley available when passengers need one. The current fleet has been in service since the 1990’s and were due to be scrapped at the end of the year.

Julie Armstrong, Customer Services Director for Manchester Airport, said: “Since 2007, we've invested over £100 million in creating a modern airport by refurbishing our terminals and upgrading our airfield which is why we are consistently voted as the best in the UK by our passengers. It's also important to get the basics right which is why we are also investing over £1 million in new luggage trolleys.

“But we have to acknowledge that to continue making multi-million pound investments in the airport when the cost of air fares are reducing, means that airports can't continue to provide services like trolleys for free. We know that charging for trolleys will not be a popular decision, which is why we are following the advice of consumer groups and informing passengers before they get to the airport. With around 5% of passengers using trolleys at the moment, this method ensures that only the user pays rather than spread the cost across everyone.“

To ensure that passengers know about the new arrangements before they arrive at the airport - as best practice recommends - Manchester Airport will include information on its website, inform airlines and travel agents for bookings and via social media channels so the new charges are well publicised.

All of the trolley vend machines have a change facility, as well as the current change machines located across the airport. You will be able to pay by credit card in all three international arrivals at Manchester Airport. The new trolleys will be introduced on 10 April 2012. Wanzl will provide the new trolleys and Manchester Airport will continue to run the trolley service in-house.

They have been doing this at other UK airports for a while now. Including Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds/Bradford and Luton.

No surprise really. I expect it will be Bagport operating the new trolleys. The way it works is Bagport pay for the new trolleys, take the payment for the use of the trolleys and keep them in working order so the airport doesn't have to. Each trolley can cost a few hundred quid so it''s a big out going for an airport when it receives nothing for it. On top of that, the majority of bags and cases have wheels these days anyway.

I wouldn't say MAN is the main contributed. There are 3 other airports all having their own issues, so not sue why you singled MAN out?

What that post meant for this thread User001, I'm not sure what you're referring to?

Nothing may come of this but some flights into Manchester may have to be diverted elsewhere tonight and tomorrow morning so aircraft can refueled.

As I'm hearing rumours that there could be flight chaos at Manchester Airport. As the airport will most likely run out off jet fuel supplies at 6pm this evening and it wont be resupplied until at least 6am tomorrow morning. The fuel is piped directly in from Stanlow in Ellesmere Port and is been disrupted because of quality concerns at the oil refinery.

Yep the current story is that Manchester Airport will probably run out of fuel by 6pm this evening...

[textarea]Manchester Airport likely to 'run out of fuel'

Manchester Airport will "probably run out of fuel" by 18:00 BST, a spokesman has said.

The airport said there was a "short term" aviation fuel supply problem from the Essar refinery at Stanlow near Ellesmere Port.

An airport spokesman said the shortage would affect some incoming and outgoing flights until at least midnight.

A spokesman for the refinery said: "There have been some production issues which we are trying to put right."

The airport uses about three million litres of airline fuel per day.

Russell Craig, Head of Communications for Manchester Airport, said the majority of passengers and flights would not be affected, but some disruption was possible.

"We are pretty certain there will be some cases where flights, certainly tonight and tomorrow morning, will be cancelled, diverted to other airports or delayed," he said.[/textarea]

As far as reports go the airport said on Twitter they don't want to divert any aircraft until the fuel has fully run out.

Funny how Monarch's MAN based A321 G-OZBI is still allowed to do circuits over at Doncaster as MON321T.. Whoever gave that permission at a time like this... :hatsoff: ;)

It's very unlikely any aircraft will divert because of this. During the fuel chaos back in the year 2000 (or 2001?) aircraft were told to fill up abroad so they could operate out of the UK without any problems. There is still a chance long haul aircraft will need to do a fuel stop but it''s unlikely to be LBA that gains from this if they do. We can live in hope (from a Leeds based enthusiasts prospective) that something comes over the hill but I doubt it.

[textarea]A fox narrowly escaped becoming road kill after playing chicken with a 500 mph jet.

A photographer snapped the Boeing 757 taking off from Manchester Airport, and caught the urban animal in the frame as it dashed across the runway in front of it.

Matthew McNulty, who was plane-spotting on the airfield at the time, had no idea he’d recorded the close shave until he looked back through his snaps

I've just looked at the picture and the fox is very close to the runway edge line but still rather close for comfort.

Read elsewhere that VS are to announce a route MAN-LHR soon, I think it was in the Guardian however was removed due to a news embargo.

Will be interesting to see this one pan out.

Could this be linked to to BA setting up stall at LBA?

Virgin Atlantic operate as part of the Star Alliance which doesn't offer anything near the same amount of connections as British Airways and the One World Alliance. BMI didn't succeed so it's difficult to imagine Virgin doing any better.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
