Manchester Airport shows off brand new American fire engines with jet blaze demo

manchestereveningnews.co.uk

"The Oshkosh Global Striker Vehicles were unveiled as part of a £4.2m total investment in the airport fire operation."

That's a sizeable investment in new equipment. It's a shame the airport couldn't have bought British Angloco Airport fire engines though.

Whilst I'm definitely all for buying British the Oshkosh Striker vehicle really is awesome. BHX acquired some back in June (being the first UK airport to do so) and when you see them in action they really are an awesome bit of kit.

Although the guy is a bit stiff it's a good walkaround of the vehicle and worth a watch.

I had a drive up to MAN this morning for the Air Cairo and heard rumours that Kuwait Airways are looking to open new routes to Munich, Copenhagen and Manchester with A330 aircraft. Then this afternoon it was also posted on another site the same rumour but dont know how true this rumour is tho

Just a typical day at Manchester.

2xAmerican B767's, Cathay B77W, Singapore B77W, Thomson B787, British Airways A320, United B757 and more.

Forwarded to me email so credit to whoever in ATC took that shot.

Happy New Year everyone, not strictly related to on the ground at Manchester but more overhead, at 9.45am this morning FR24 showed 2 x Emirates A380's overhead both heading to Dubai plus a United 772 again heading to Dubai. Both Emirates were due to land approx 7.20pm local but the United was not due to land until 8.18pm local. This brought 3 questions to mind, firstly how accurate is FR24 with regards to timings, secondly, is it possible that an A380 could be an hour quicker than a 772 over that distance or, thirdly, is it that Emirates have priority over United with regards to routings and landing at Dubai?

MAN in 2014 officially broke through the 22m passenger bracket, carrying 22,055,258 passengers.

With so many increases planned for Summer 2015, let alone anything planned winter 2015, I'm hopeful MAN can get to between 22,750,000 and 23,000,000 this year.

Inspired by Ray on the BHX threads, I thought I would post a typical long haul and non-European arrival roster for MAN in August.

Well better than other airports in the uk outside of London!
Great user 001, lots of respect :whiteflag:

Yes very impressive and as you say Manniashraf considerably better than every other airport outside of London and something most regional airport can only ever dream of.

Long haul services from Manchester airport suffered badly during the economic crisis, how does that list compare with the lowest point a couple of years or so ago?

Also forgot

2000 IA228 Erbil B737 Sun.

Manchester Airport hopes to pass 30m mark by 2025

Manchester Airports Group boss Charlie Cornish says he hopes 30 millions people will jet in and out of the region within 10 years.

The airport this year reached its pre-recession milestone of 22m passengers and is aiming to hit the 23.5m mark next year.

And he said: "In three years, Manchester Airport will be vastly different to what it is today and in three years, it will be hugely different."

Anyone know why the Emirates uae17 just declared a emergency signal? Over birmingham coming originally to manchester?

While it didn't go into details, Emirates has said Manchester is its 2nd highest O&D market in the world after London. It beat places such as New York, Manilla and Paris.

Not a bad accolade to have, and shows MAN-DXB really isn't just about accessing the DXB hub.

In terms of Etihad, Manchester is apparently 3rd behind London and Manama for pure O&D traffic too.

Who would have thought it!

Many other forums are Reporting that US department of homeland security have announced MAN (and LHR as well as some other EU airports) are to get pre clearance facilities.Great news for futre of Manchester

That is great news for US and UK based operators wanting to operate direct flights to the States and it's been a long time in coming.

It's something that will likely stunt the growth of airlines like Aer Arran AKA Air Stobart from other regional airports with the pre clearance option at airports like Manchester and London Heathrow being favoured over flights via Dublin.

I know some airlines dont switch their aircraft around much, Iraqi are the worst for sending the same aircraft on every flight even if its a different destination. But out of intrest Turkish have sent A321 TC-JSP on every TK1993 morning flight since 30th May when it first visited.

Well we can boast an even more annoying lack of variety down at BHX...VLM have used F50 OO-VLJ on every one of their 4 weekly flights since they started on April 27!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
