I'm not sure what the history of MH serving KUL from MAN was.

Here you go:

Started off with 777s and upgraded to 747s with a temporary suspension in 2002. Think the frequency never waivered from 3 weekly.

Any news on the CAA stats?

Not a lot of info with this still showing:

Korean Air from June 2016 begins placing KE code on AIRFRANCE service to Hamburg and Manchester

There have been a couple of interesting codeshares in recent weeks, this one and Areomexico via KLM.

It can mean nothing, Malaysian and South African both codeshare via Etihad, but it does indicate a level of interest in the market.

Against some of the political and economic headwinds (including the French ATC strikes) that's pretty good.

Shame we don't have acess to the details breakdown.

There is a country breakdown for some on the airport press twitter feed. May exact number 2,244,180

Passenger numbers up 7% in May. Rolling total 23,881,688

Freight up 6%

Supposedly this number does not include transfer passengers?

Looks like MAN will pass 24mm pax on a rolling basis sometime in June (maybe around now?).

Still seems to be on for 25mm pax by close of 2016.

I would like to see the seasonal disparity close over this winter, that would make a big difference but I don't think it is likely!

"Supposedly this number does not include transfer passengers?"

I think the poster on another forum meant transit pax but suggested 100,000. In fact, transit pax are only about 6,000-8,000 per month, being the difference between Terminal pax and total pax. Transfer pax are included in the Terminal figure.

Incidentally, the 7.22% growth in pax contrasts with an 11% increase in movements. That indicates less pax per flight. It might be due to more smaller a/c used, or it could mean reduced LFs. It's important that actual increases in pax closely match the increase in seat capacity shown by the ACL summer report if overall LFs are to be maintained.

MAN hit back at what is quite frankly a ludicrous assertion based in an incredibly weak argument by LHR.

http://www.thebusinessdesk.com/mobi...its-back-at-heathrow-third-runway-claims.html

I am beginning to wonder if LHR is beginning to feel it has lost the argument.

It is poorly sited for significant expansion and the idea that it needs to suck up yet further UK flights in order to feed that expansion (a connection in the UK means two flight pairs originating/terminating rather than one) is quite simply laughable.

Let the supply grow to meet the demand not force passengers to travel from where they don't want to.

Think it is obvious that LHR is so fixated on its issue that the enhanced offerings from the regions have passed them by. So it makes them look slightly foolish regarding LHR being needed for long-haul

It's terribly out of touch. Really makes you wonder.

Short haul in Europe can be catered well from any one of LBA, LPL, BHX, EMA or anywhere else, including MAN.

Long Haul in the regions is largely focused on MAN. MAN does not need a network the size of LHR, but would need to be plugged in to other major hubs on a regular basis - which it largely is. The major holes in this network are daily "full service" airline service to the West Coast, South America, India, Japan and one or two other South East asian airports. None of these are unrealistic over the next 5-10 years.

Of these holes, parts of China are planned to be filled in and there are likely plans bubbling up for the rest in time. The Northern Powerhouse does not need LHR. It needs a connected MAN and good surface access to it from across the North.

It's fantastic that long haul airlines are sweeping North but is all the extra capacity going to be filled ?

US flights "appeared' a tad light when I checked checkin at week end ! There cannot possibly be opened ended demand ....or can there ?

We already have a daily Oman next year and now we are talking on here about an extra EK plus Etihad.....CX

Is it sustainable?

China "may" be different. It's so big and if it works in one region it may work in another. Plus we will have massive inbound flows.

Give me hope chaps as i want to believe.

There is plenty of demand from Manchester. The reasons airlines are only now trying to meet this demand are historic. For years BA sought to protect its Heathrow empire and shuttle service by lobbying government for restrictive bilaterals and competing head on and aggressively with any airlines that attempted services (Sabena, Cathay and PIA are the obvious victims). More recently alliances have funnelled Manchester passengers through their hubs. High profile losses to this include Qantas and Air Canada. Even Virgin attempted to fly people to LHR, then bus them to LGW rather than fly direct. With the launch of MT scheduled to the US and HU to China the alliances are being made redundant and the potential of MAN is there for all to see. Going forward these airlines will have to expand their MAN services or accept a loss in passengers going through the hubs.

Positive experiences of MAN this month.

Flew out of T1 on 9th June, with 3 bags, pushchair, infant and wife.

Literally the first people to use security on 9th, we were the first flight out at 0510. The staff were pleasant, talkative and offered clear direction. Seen lots of Twitter folk saying how rude they have been lately, but, honestly had no complaints.

Still hate the maze of duty free, but, I know a shortcut around the shop so navigated with ease. None of the other shops were open, they began to open as we were called for boarding.

Coming back, landed today at 1306, again 3 bags, pushchair etc, and landslide with all said bags and getting picked up at 1328. Honestly cannot fault the service. We were lucky I suppose, as the A380 was just getting final pax for boarding, and we landed ahead of the Etihad B777. Was hoping to catch the Hainan on T2, but, we were late leaving PMI so missed the departure. Did see the shiney new Iberia A330 being towed to ramp, and the Qatar B77W on stand.

Probably one of my last experiences of the T1 Pier C, next holidays are going to be through T2. Pier is really really showing its age now though, the whole 'ceiling mirrors' and the way it's segregated for arriving/departing pax is just really poor first impressions of Manchester now.

Thanks User. Perhaps the reply would be best in the Building the Future thread rather than here so as not to stray off topic too much.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
