Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

The pink-purple scheme is very attractive and pleasing to the eye, the same use of colour is present when going through security as the two display tv screens telling passengers what to do use the same idea.

As part of the 'improvements' cough cough, LBA will be gaining a new corporate branding which does involve pink, purple and yellow. A much more fun and colourful approach to the outdated and very conservative current branding. The 'international' part of 'LBIA' is not being used anymore (this can be seen in the airport URL) with 'Leeds Bradford Airport' the principal branding.

The new lounge is very impressive and is the only part of the terminal that is remotely pleasing to be in. If the level of detail and quality is applied to the whole terminal that it really will be a cracking regional airport, I do however have doubts.

With specific regard to retail, I'd like to see the following included within the airport if the development is carried out;

- Boots
- Waterstones/Borders
- HMV
- Accessorise
- Tie Rack
- Topshop/Topman
- Currys Digital
- Starbucks/Costa Coffee

carrying on with the shops.
- JD Sports
- Cafe Nero instead of starbuck's (cafe nero = alot cheaper and we're yorkshire :drinks: )
- alot of currency exchanges
- The perfume shop
-The Body shop
-Republic
hahaha this added to gether would most likely be the best airport in the world for shopping

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I know I've mentioned this before but I would like to see SSP loose it's franchise monopoly they currently have throughout the airport. I like the idea of a Starbucks, Costa or a Cafe Nero but not under the SSP banner because they will just inflate the prices. As for the other shops, some really good ideas there 'Lbia' & 'Rhinocrazy', lets hope we see some of those brands in the new development. A Next shop would probably work alongside the Topshop brand because they tend to have a different clientele. (Chavs and all that  )

(as you say though 'lbia' it's still seems more like an 'if' rather than a 'when')

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Looses StressLess

The StressLess shoe shop has apparently closed. Although the winter has shown some sizable increases in passengers, sadly it hasn't been enough to keep the shop going. The shops size and position within the lounge could also have been factors.

there is not enough room in the airport for retail at the moment :aggressive: and will continue this way untill bridge point do something

On top of the 'StressLess' shop closure, the games company 'Gamegrid' has apparently withdrawn it's games from the airport. The company operated in locations throughout the terminal. Can anybody shed any light on why they have gone?

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I did notice that the last day too. I was thinking perhaps the shoe shop is expanding and re-loacting, then i pinched myself and came back to life. However, a neat little location, im hoping will provide us with a new retail outlet. I wonder what types of retail are priority for the airport... (eating/coffee/shopping)

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Also, have they also been removed from the small area in the corner landside at the side of Yates'?

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I think if, development does go ahead, we are likely to see one or two pret a manger shops in the airport since Bridgepoint own them also.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I was just looking at the new refurbished terminal layout and with there only being 2 new retail units, I was wondering what people think they might be?
Unfortunately Yates' Bar and BurgerKing are going to form part of the new retail space upstairs landside for now so for the new departure lounge are we going to expect another cafe and store? Duty Free is already taken care of so with one of these likely to be WHSmith's it doesn't leave much open, in regards to opportunities?!

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

WHSmith's and Superdrug are going to form part of the new retail area ready for next summer. The stores will be bigger and allow more product lines than at present. On the plans for the extension it included a large duty free store. I can't see the airport moving the store twice in the refurbishment, so if and when the second phase comes, it will allow substantially more opportunities for new retail outlets.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

From what I remember, the extended part of the terminal - once built - will house the central screening area on the ground floor.

On the first floor, the duty free area was the main part of the extended area.

Under the plans for the extension, the escalator from the new central screening area up to the first floor will arrive right in the middle of where the duty free store is planned to be under this first phase of works. So there might have to be some changes to the first floor retail area when they build the extension. That said, with the airport not expecting 4m passengers now until 2015 so I don't think they will be moving ahead with the extension phase any time soon.

In terms of the first phase works, it still looks to me that the food court / Yates / BK will be airside rather than landside. I can't see any other access for passengers from the ground floor to the first floor other than from the security area.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

It hasn't been mentioned yet so I thought I was worth a mention that a new Asian food booth has been put in the arrivals area. It hasn't opened yet but it isn't operated by SSP. It's not clear whether this is a temporary offering or permanent.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

It's where those giant bottles were situated. They have moved up into Hall B near the jet2 desks. It says 'food on the go' on the kiosk, so this hints at a hot food takeaway.

Get a dodgy kebab takeaway from the airport, what a great idea if it opens late into the evening. There's nothing like some good 'British' food when you've arrived back home from your holidays.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

I know what you mean. Seems a strange choice of outlet to put at an airport.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

The new Taste of India or whatever it's called was giving free food away yesterday. I had a sample and I've got to say it tasted better than any of the rubbish from the local takeaways.

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Now then. I am sure I will get shot down in flames as usual for starting conjectural mumblings here. According to the note on the kiosk, the new shop opens on Wednedsay, and is open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Wednesday and Saturday are of course PIA days of operation, but what about Friday? bearing in mind the latest PIA rumour mentions a Friday flight...well I think you know where I am going with this. Right, tin hat on ready!!

Re: Leeds Bradford - Retail Thread

Having spoken to them, they did mention they were looking to open daily Bigman so I wouldn't read any more from that. They said they're just going to see how well it does on the three days to start with. I can't remember the opening times but I know it's going to be open until 22:00 hours. Even through the winter months there should be a reasonable amount of arriving traffic to make the outlet work. Although it looks a little odd sat there in the arrivals area it should be popular with both passengers and staff alike.

We just need a chippy now and we've cracked it!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
