Interesting development as it may work seen as most of the 963 route is covered by the X84 service.
I suppose the Metro tender funding would only cover the hourly Monday to Saturday off peak and Sunday journeys, Thus meaning that current operator TLC Travel might be happy taking the risk of operating the Monday to Saturday peak daytime journeys commercially. Wither that also means been dropped to an hourly service is anyone's guess!

I bet Pete will be happy hearing this news...

Wouldn't it just make more sense to operate the 967 through to Ilkley and kill 2 birds with one stone. It amazes me that there is no bus from the airport to Ilkley.

Some of the Ilkley LBA passengers DO use the Menston/LBA 'bus having got to Menston on the train.
The local media report that the Menston/LBA service might be retained if only on an hourly basis. That would probably suffice although an earlier loop through Menston village would be nice. at the moment we have to handball luggage down to the train station and catch the bus there before 0930.
Viva TLC!

Would anyone use a Menston-Otley-airport-Horsforth (inc Rail Station) service as Horsforth does not have a link to the airport as well as providing a through route for general use?

Good news regarding Public Transport access to LBIA.

Yorkshire Tiger Bus (ex Centrebus) has confirmed that its agreed with Metro and LBIA to increased frequency and introduce a fleet of brand new larger buses for the Leeds to Airport 757 service next summer. They have also committed to refurbish the existing fleet of buses on the Bradford and Harrogate - Airport 737/747 routes.
Meanwhile Metro has also consulted on a revised timetable for the local service 967 operated by TLC which will see the route continue to serve the Airport on an hourly basis during the Monday to Saturday daytime period only.

In response to your post on the SAS thread, lbaspotter (I don't want to divert the thread) - please forgive my ignorance, but where in the airport can one buy a through bus and rail ticket to York and other destinations?

Certainly, if one can, it is not apparent to arriving passengers.

I would go further by saying that it is very difficult to find information pertaining to, not only this issue, but also to public transport links to the airport in general. The LBIA website itself has limited information and redirects the customer to the Metro website. None of this information is available in a language other than English. Additionally, having looked at numerous tourist websites, information such as this is extremely limited and, in most cases, out of date.

Perhaps White Heather can answer this but it is meant as an open question. Is there anybody at LBA who is responsible for ensuring that information is accurate, simple and easy to find through liaising with passengers/local authority/websites etc? Are staff/volunteers available at LBA to help arriving passengers with their onward journey?

Firstly it's great news that the 737/47/57 are getting new or referbed buses with more services on the 757. Good news about the 967 front. You've to remember though that these are bus services that serve the community not just the airport and it's these people that support the service too to enable an increase in frequency.
On the subject of onward travel for arriving passengers there is nothing. All public transport tickets are bought on the bus. With no way of getting a ticket that will extend to the train. I had a thought that Northern Rail could put a couple of self serve ticket machines in which issued a ticket from LBA to wherever via the bus to Leeds the same way as you can get a ticket through from a rail station to LBA or as an add on to a ticket to Leeds. But do other airports have this facility via a bus link except the National Express coaches. Would National Express run a service upto LBA. The NE airport buses that run from Yorkshire to East Mids, Birmingham, Heathrow and Gatwick terminate at Bradford could these be run and continued onto LBA and maybe through to York?

It has been interesting to read comments on one of the threads about the lack of onward bus/train ticketing facilities and also transport information. Maybe it is time that the airport considered setting up a transport desk, which can both provide information and sell tickets.

I also agree that it would be very useful if we could get some sort of National Express service up and running. I like the idea of extending the 240 service, which already serves Gatwick, Heathrow and East Midlands from Leeds. I doubt an 8 mile extension would be that much of an inconvenience.

Maybe a service from Bradford to Newcastle via Harrogate, Ripon and Middlesbrough could be a possibility, with perhaps a 2 hourly frequency.

hi bigman
some good ideas there bigman, the national express from teeside would be great, lba could possibly pick up some Thompson pax as they no longer serve dtv.

A few years ago I wanted to fly from Leeds but was coming down from the Newcastle area. The Newcastle - Bradford (380)service was fine for the time to arrive into LBA but routed via Harewood and misses LBA. Therefore going by Leeds made it too late. It is a pity this service doesn't operate into the airport even if only twice a day, but ideally a National Express service every 2 hours. By the way I wrote to National Express and suggested a routing via the airport but never got a reply.

Looks like both airport bus routes from Bradford City Centre are been effected by the bad weather this evening as Bus Company Yorkshire Tiger have just posted the following tweets on there twitter account:

Due to Apperley Bridge area still closed, the 747 service is diverting via, Rawdon Rd, Ring Road, Rodley Lane and into Greengates.

The 737 service is being diverted from Manningham Lane onto Lumb Lane in Bradford, due to unsafe building, we'll keep you updated!

Yes and I can confirm that is the cause of my power cut this evening. We lost power for two hours. Not sure exactly what's happened.

Whilst not directly related to the airport, government inspectors have given the green light to proposals for 70,000 new homes in Leeds of which 2,300 are to be built in the Aireborough area surrounding the airport. Needless to say this will have a huge impact on Leeds Bradford airport. It's madness given the state of the transport network with congested roads and congested trains from Guiseley railway station. That's before even taking into account the lack of facilities such as doctors surgeries and schools. It's amazing how the government can overrule advise from local MPs and councillors warning of the impact of the surrounding areas.

Here's an article in one of the local rags giving further insight:

If built does increase the catchment numbers for the airport. I live close to the airport and we have successfully defeated 3 planning applications in the last 3 years to develope the land behind my house. Each time rejected on access by road.

Oh this is going to cause a lot off fun traffic in the west of Leeds! As 3 sets of major road works to improve the junctions Thornbury Barracks and the Rodley and Horsforth Leeds Outer ring-road roundabouts are all going to happen at the same time according to Leeds City Council. Work is due to commence from July and should be completed by April next year.

West Leeds: Summer roadworks warning to drivers

Motorists in west Leeds are being warned to expect delays as work is due to start to improve three busy roundabouts this summer. Improvements will be made to Thornbury Barracks, Rodley and Horsforth roundabouts in a bid to ease congestion around the west of the city. Engineers will start working at the Thornbury junction in July and similar improvement schemes will start at Horsforth and Rodley roundabouts in August.

If anyone is interested Airport bus operator Yorkshire Tiger today registered (with VOSA) a timetable change to the Leeds Bus Station - Leeds/Bradford Airport 757 bus service with effect from April 27th. The good news I understand this is confirmation that the service frequency is been increased from the current every 30 mins service to running every 20 mins....

PB0004441/1 - WHITE ROSE BUS CO LTD T/A Yorkshire Tiger, UNIT G10, LOCK VIEW, LOWFIELDS BUSINESS PARK, ELLAND, HX5 9HD
Variation Accepted: Operating between Leeds Bus Station and Leeds - Bradford Airport given service number 757 effective from 27-Apr-2014. To amend Timetable.

..and then there are the big changes to the 33/33A that are also due at the end of April. A new half-hourly Monday to Saturday daytime limited stop X33 is planned between Park Row and Yeadon/Guiseley, which will work a circular route from Rawdon Crossroads and back.

It is still a stopping service (sadly!!). The first bus will now leave Leeds York Street at 04:33 arriving at LBA at 05:06, so useful for the early departures. The first one into Leeds from LBA will leave at 05:10, so useful for the later overnight arrivals.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
