Does anyone know if this will be the first ever red route in Leeds? Don’t ever recall seeing any others on my travels.

They will probably start dropping off and picking up on the south side area or my street even more now.
We have to keep reporting dumped cars on our street despite the notices pointing out no airport parking allowed.

The things folk will do to avoid paying £3! What is the point in dropping off where you live? The free drop off zone is much closer and probably still will be after they move it - and there will be a free bus to the terminal too.

Its the £3 wot does it...You can`t reason with a lot of people and pointing out sensible alternatives are just not listened to.The rights and wrongs ignored. All they see is a £3 charge. This system is in place at liverpool, where watching the antics of motorists trying to save £3, has been raised to the level of a spectator sport!!..As the old saying goes, You Cant Educate Pork.

Perhaps they would like free drop-off but go back to the pre-low cost airline days and pay the air fares charged then on the far fewer flights and destinations available (with inflation since those days also taken into account).

We took a taxi both to the airport and back to home for our trip to Malta.
It is only about half a mile in total distance they charged £8 each way with the drop off fees included.
I like to support the management to receive some income so they can spend it sorting out my pet whinges !
The Beast from the East debacle meant we had to pay a further £60 to get to East Midlands Airport as part of a mini bus party but thats life and no ones fault.

Does anybody have any idea on where we are in the process of choosing the link road option? It seems to have been such a long time now without anything happening.

The last we were told was the Council were now doing detailed studies into each route having taken into account all the public concerns identified during the consultation period. So I guess it is looking now at the actual engineering issues of each route including cuttings, possible tunnels, bridges, definite route for each option and working out the costs more accurately. I imagine too that it will clarify exactly which properties will be subject to demolition. Previously it was just a rough route - almost a line drawn on a map. All that said, I think we all know that the proposed park and ride linked to the proposed parkway rail station, will only be possible if the route is Option 1. That is undoubtedly the only route that makes any sense at all for various reasons.

Also, don't forget that it is the Tour de Yorkshire in 2 weeks time. There are already some details on the Metro website which shows that certain routes will be affected over the weekend, so plan ahead if coming up to LBA.

Possible disruption for 10 weeks on the (A658) at Pool Bank

Culvert repair works to be carried out on A658 Pool Bank New Road

A project to carry out essential works to repair a culvert under the A658 Pool Bank New Road in Leeds is to begin next month.

The work managed by Leeds City Council will begin on Tuesday 8 May, and will focus on a stretch of the A658 north-east of the Dyneley Arms junction between the A660 Leeds Road and Pool-in-Wharfedale.

The repair has been identified as being necessary as part of the council’s ongoing assessment of all bridges and culverts in the city. This culvert, which was originally built around 100 years ago, enables a natural stream watercourse to flow through it under the road carrying water from surrounding areas. It is now in need of repair and strengthening work, which will be carried out through the use of piling and the addition of reinforced concrete to increase its durability and make it more resilient to flooding events.

Project length
The project is expected to take 10 weeks to complete, with the road remaining open to all users throughout but with a single lane restriction in place, a reduced 30-miles per hour speed limit and temporary traffic signals in operation. In order to minimise the length of the project, work is to be undertaken seven days a week when possible.

Local residents impacted by the works have been contacted by the council with details, while local councillors have also been made aware. As the road is well used by those travelling to and from Leeds Bradford Airport, motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys or seek to use alternative routes where possible. Both the airport and Jet2.com have also been made aware and will include messaging about the works being given to passengers before they travel. Taxi companies, bus operators and local off-site airport parking services are also being informed.

Project drawings showing construction details are available from therelated documents section.

Thanks Aviador for posting that impresive production courtesy of the Council. Being from the east coast it is of great interest to me if in fact it does make the journey easier and anything that cuts out Seacroft in a morning/evening has got be good as far as I'm concerned.

My comprehension of the local geography is however somewhat limited so a couple of questions if I may.

1. Is the road going to be built or is it, at this stage at least, just a piece of wishful thinking?
2. How would this road fit in with the proposed link road and, for that matter, when are we due to hear about which route will be chosen?
3. Are there any proposed time scales for building these roads or will they be so far in the distance that I will have given up flying due to the effects of old age and so be of no benefit to oldies like me? I suspect, as with all projects of this nature, the latter but live in hope!

The East Leeds Orbital Road (ELOR) is I believe due to be completed by late 2021. Before their collapse Carillon were the preferred contractor for the works. The Council stated that following the collapse they would be negotiating with the other tenderers in order to appoint a new contractor. Associated with the scheme improvements are proposed for junctions on the A6120 Ring Road at Roundhay Park Lane, Harrogate Road (A61) and King Lane. Works associated with these improvements have already commenced at Roundhay Park Lane and Harrogate Road.

I don't know any details on the timescale of the Link Road.

Leeds City Council has finally got it's act together with this project and it will be delivered. The council is now in the process of compulsory purchase of land for the Leeds Orbital Road so it's definitely going to get built. I think I read 2019 for the start date. Initially Carillion was awarded the contract to build the road but this has now been awarded to Balfour Beatty since the demise of Carillion.

As for how the new road links into the existing road network and proposed link road, the new duel carriageway road will end close to Roundhay Park where the existing road is single carriageway for about 1.5 miles before it reaches Moortown where it becomes duel carriageway again. I don't know if the council has any plans to upgrade this stretch.

The proposed airport link road is primarily to serve traffic from the west so I'm not sure how helpful that will be in this instance. There has been little update with regards to the airport link road so I imagine it's some way off yet although Option A is the most likely option as it is the only option to provided adequate connectivity with the proposed airport parkway.

Question for White Heather or anyone else who might know, was there any update at the meeting regarding the Double red line painting on the roads around the airport?

Thank you.

The double red lines are a matter for the Highways Authority (no doubt with some input from the Civil Aviation Authority) which should make an official Road Traffic Order. This should appear in the relevant press ie Wharfedale, Yorkshire Post or YEP

The council have completed the required period of time following publication of the proposed red route and the airport stated they are now waiting for the report from Leeds City Council and details of when the current double yellows will become double red. Originally, the schedule was to carry out the work this month, so I am not sure if it has slipped or not, but it will almost certainly happen in the near future.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
