We’re bringing better links to Otley and Ilkley from 21 Feb

Yesterday Fri 15th Jan 2021

An upgraded link to Leeds Bradford Airport, Shipley and Bradford, newer buses, better connections with the trains and added stops in response to local feedback. Our 21 February changes make Otley and Ilkley better connected, in comfort and in style.
Here we’ve summarised what’s changing and how our new timetables will look. We’ll be adding pdf timetables for you to download soon – follow us on Twitter @keighleybus to be the first to know.

What’s changing in and around Otley

Otley Dash is our new look for Otley’s 965 – we’re bringing you newer buses with USB power, Wifi, next-stop announcements, comfier seats and a smarter new look.

Otley dash bus

For the first time, the route will be extended beyond the Town Centre to Menston Rail Station.

Otley Dash - Menston Rail Station–Otley–Wharfedale Hospital–Weston - will have a better 30 minute frequency link to the rail station, timed for the best connections with trains from Leeds.

We’ll be adding a full Otley Dash timetable here shortly. Here’s how buses will be running:

Monday to Friday - buses every 30 minutes from 6.35am to around 7pm. Buses continue every 30 minutes in an evening between Otley, Wharfedale Hospital and Weston until 11pm.

Saturday - buses every 30 minutes from 8am to around 7pm. Buses to and from Menston rail station start a little earlier at 7am, and buses continue in an evening between Otley, Wharfedale Hospital and Weston until 11pm.

Sunday - buses run every 30 minutes between Otley, Wharfedale Hospital and Weston from 9am to 11pm.
After these changes on 21 Feb, Wharfedale Links 962 will no longer run into Menston because customers will be able to use Otley Dash instead. 962 also has changes around Ilkley – check our summary of what’s changing in and around Ilkley here.

FLYER A3 will be Otley’s new link to Pool, Leeds Bradford Airport, Shipley and Bradford.
Replacing the current link on the 62, FLYER A3 will provide a bus every hour to Pool and the airport and direct on to Shipley and Bradford too, 7 days a week!

jan 2021 flyer map

We’ll be adding a full FLYER A3 timetable here shortly. Here’s how buses will be running:

Monday to Saturday – buses run hourly from around 7.30am to 11pm.

Sunday - buses run hourly from around 9am to 11pm.

For more information about FLYER, including tickets and huge discounts for airport colleagues, take a look at our FLYER page here.

After these changes on 21 Feb, the 62 will no longer run into Otley and to Leeds Bradford Airport, because customers will be able to use FLYER instead.

Some times on FLYER A2 – Bradford - Guiseley - Yeadon - Leeds Bradford Airport - Harrogate – will be changing on 21 February too.

A small number of departure times are changing, and the first trip from Bradford Monday-Saturday is extended to run all the way through to Harrogate rather than finishin at the airport.

We’ll link a new A2 timetable here shortly.

What’s changing in and around Ilkley

Wharfedale Links – to complement our investment in Otley Dash, we’re bringing you newer buses to Wharfedale links too, packed with handy features like with USB power, Wifi, next-stop announcements and comfier seats.

wharfedale links

962 which runs between Ilkley, Burley and Otley, will also serve Albany Walk in Ilkley, in response to feedback from local residents and councillors. The route includes Albany Walk, Wells Walk and Queens Road. We’ll upload a new map here soon.

We’ll be adding a full 962 timetable here shortly. Buses will be running every hour between 9am and 4pm.

The 962 won’t call into Menston after the changes, because the Otley-Menston Station link will be served by Otley Dash.
There are no changes to Wharfedale Links routes 966 and 948, which you can check the current times for here.

The 62 will change route to run only between Keighley and Ilkley.

Customers travelling between Otley and Leeds Bradford Airport will be able to use FLYER A3, which also provides a new direct link to Pool, Shipley and Bradford.

We’ll be adding a full 62 timetable here shortly. Here’s how buses will be running:

Monday to Friday – buses will be running every 30 minutes through the day. Early buses start around 6.30am and later buses run until around 11pm.

Saturday - buses will be running every 30 minutes between 7.30am and 11pm.

Sunday - the first buses run at around 10am, then buses run hourly between 12noon and 11pm.

784 will change route to run between Ilkley and Skipton. This is the same route as we’re using now, after our 10 January changes.

The first and last journeys of the day Monday to Friday will still extend to and from Otley, so we can continue to provide enough seats for college students.

Check the timetable here.

Customers travelling between Ilkley and Otley will be able to use Wharfedale Links 962, with hourly departures Monday to Saturday.

Surely this is positive news if LCC are releasing new pics of the parkway station. Would they be doing this if the new terminal was not going ahead?
yes i agree positive news and great to see an image which looks a pretty decent station with large car park and large turning point at the end for the buses. hopefully the new terminal and the station will be approved, the LBA parkway station is a selling point for the new terminal so if it looks likely it will get the go ahead surely LBA will get its terminal due to location!

Is the LBA parkway station been project been run by Leeds City Council or the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Or is it a mix of both?

At £42m I think it's insanity that they're building 2 platforms and a car park.
Well you would. We know your desire for a heavy rail link to the airport, which you continue to pursue despite it already being discounted. The car park is a much needed park and ride scheme - something NW Leeds doesn't have. So this scheme is dual purpose and the cost has to be seen as such.

Putting heavy rail to one side, the £42m would be better spent on the tram or tram-train solution... It's a scandalous amount for a P&R.

Even if initially there was a heavy rail to tram/tram-train interchange for the last mile or two that would be a superior solution and better use of money. At least then the future direct route is already built.

Also think about future business cases... If this white elephant is built then it'll appear there is next to zero demand for rail to the airport.

Furthermore the base case will change drastically meaning the cost benefit of future tram link much diminished. Today the base case is the lengthy bus ride to the city... So the benefit is huge. The Parkway delivers say 50% of the benefit of a direct link. So once built the base case is much higher so the cost benefit much worse.

By them insisting this is a P&R it's pushed the cost hugely due to land assembly, earth works etc. Yet just a mile away the airport owns acres of parking space that is already built. If they were smart they could exchange some of the parking space with the airport... The airport gets direct tram link and the cost of land assembly and earthworks for parking vastly reduces...

I think we need both. We need more integrated transport, if this can relieve some of the traffic from the A65 and through Headingley offering as a P&R (as well as an airport train station) then I welcome it. Apperley Bridge has probably reached full (pre Covid) now and therefore we need another station that can act as a relief for Apperley Bridge (moving customers away from one to the other station) whilst also taking some of the Leeds bound commuter traffic from Rawdon, Yeadon, Otley, Pool and surrounding areas.

I'd also welcome spending and a budget for a tram system throughout Leeds. But sadly Leeds and it's council have never really been forward thinking when it comes to things such as transport. A tram system and affordable buses for all would be welcomed with this region.

But then Platform Zero at Leeds City Station cost £161 m
I assume it must have also included re doing the layout on approach, but even so it seems in unbelievable amount of money for some electric poles, a short stretch of rail and a breeze block platform...

I do fully support the Parkway, but I would like to know how feasible it will be for a conversion to a tram-train system that can maybe go the extra half mile closer to the new terminal building, maybe even onto Yeadon at some point. These days, tram-trains don't need the overhead wires, they can be battery operated for parts of the journey. This would make it substantially cheaper than previous tram options.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
