been speaking to a PIA engineer, so he claims, and he has mentioned the following:-

AP-BGL B772 will never fly again due to corrosion

AP-BID B77W currently in the hanger awaiting new engines, will return to service

AP-BHW B77W currently stored, fate unknown if it will ever return back to service.

so possibly a fleet of 5 B772ER's, 2 B772LR's, and 3 B77Ws in service later this year?
According to the aviation minister 4-5 parked aircrafts will be bought back to operations as PIA is acquiring engines.

UK aviation/DfT team expected to arrive in Pakistan in the last week of January, according to news reports.

so expect approval to fly to the UK to be granted in February, & they will need to get their Heathrow slots back from Turkish and Saudi that they leased to them, so they can re-operate from the summer timetable, hence the reason Manchester has been touted as the first UK desitnation when the ban is lifted.

Their slots lease in LHR I believe expire in April

Not exactly helping themselves re safety concerns as PIA plane lands on wrong runway !
Regards,Simon.

Tender gone out today for weekly meals required(2,200) on their Birmingham flights. Submission date is 12th of March.
The airline is planning 3 weekly flights.

Something has happened very quickly as MAN starts same week with 9 weekly

But seemingly little progress in returning aircraft to service. I would be amazed if they could operate the MAN schedule by March, let alone BHX.

The March date is the deadlines for companies to submit their applications for the contract. I think it will take some while longer for them to evaluate the applications especially if there are several of them.

Not a clue how u calculate 3 weekly flights 😂
2200 meals would feed all the passengers on a plane with 366 seats that did 3 return flights per week.

However, I don’t know if any PIA planes are configured with 366 seats. Wiki says no but it could be outdated.

Don't forget, if I've got my head screwed on correctly, that they are looking at quotes for flights ex-UK and therefore it is 6 one-way flights.

PIA planning to operate 22 weekly Boeing 777 flights from UK to Pakistan.

London

10 x weekly Boeing 777

Manchester

9 x weekly Boeing 777

Birmingham

3 x weekly Boeing 777

It feels like a "believe it when I see it" situation but I will remain optimistic.

Pakistan International Airlines CEO has confirmed they will be heading for a 22 weekly service to the UK, consisting 10 weekly to LHR, 9 weekly to MAN, and 3 weekly to BHX. Slots are also regained and under PIA when current leases end.

When do they anticipate having the above schedule commence and how many aircraft will this require ?

My guess is that it will dribble start with MAN first and then LHR in April when the slots at LHR return to PIA and maybe BHX as aircraft become available

This year. Their Boeing 777s are all slowly getting shape now. BGJ is undergoing heavy maintenance. GE90s are the only thing holding the 2 777-300s. BGL was damaged my military, however needs to undergo a heavy maintenance. BMG ( retro 777) I believe is returning soon too. As soon as these 777s return, PIA will have no issues at all

I was told by some who claims to work for PIA that B772 BGL has been written off and won't fly again due to corrosion, and B77W BHW is unknown at this stage if it will return to service.

BGL managed to return to service after the military damage occurred, that can’t be true as it had a full roof and wing repairs done to it. BHW and BID share the same fait, awaiting Ge90 engines. BMG requires its 3 landing gears to be replaced, and that will be complete too.

Pakistan ‘begins’ preparation for UK flights:-

Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has ‘begun’ preparation for the revival of UK flights, ARY News reported, citing sources.

As per details, the Department for Transport (DFT) of the United Kingdom is likely to complete an audit of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), that will pave way for revival of the UK flights from Pakistan.

After getting positive signs, the PIA, is currently preparing for the restoration of its flight operations, the sources said.

Efforts are also underway to activate slots at UK’s Heathrow Airport, with plans in place to resume operations from Terminal 4. Additionally, PIA is set to begin direct flights to Manchester and London by mid-March.

Sources indicate that PIA will utilize its Boeing 777 aircraft for these operations in the UK. Furthermore, strategies are being developed for flights to various European sectors.

On January 10, after a four-and-a-half-year break, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight safely landed at CDG Airport Paris to restart operations in European nations.

The passengers, officials of PIA and Aviation and crew members were warmly received at the airport by Charge d’Affairs Ms. Huzefa Khanum along with Pakistani diaspora.

Charge d’ Affairs while welcoming all said that this is the best gift for overseas Pakistanis by the government. The resumption of flights will further strengthen relations between Pakistan, France and European Union through promotion of trade, tourism, business and people-to-people exchanges.

a few PIA updates:-

taken from the PIA forum:-

UK Department for Transport (DfT) team has completed its visit to Pakistan that included physical audit of Pakistan CAA. The 7-member UK team is going to depart from Pakistan on February 7.

Audit positive result will enable resumption of Pakistani airlines' commercial passenger/cargo flights to & from UK suspended since July 2020.

Preparation and release of audit result report by UK DfT can take some weeks, according to news sources.
