I have see lots of adverts for Qatar at BHX during the last week, big advert in this weeks Birmingham Post and in travel agents across the city.
Its good to see the message getting across lots of different media channels. (y)

FR24 is showing A330-300 A7-AEJ for today, due just after 13:00 if it's not a mistake.

I think it is a mistake. FR24 is currently showing it flying South West across the NE Mediterranean.

Edit: FR24 now showing it as having diverted to Barcelona...

Think so. Would say it's because new callsigns have come into effect so no correlation to the flight number but they seem to have managed to get AF1068 which is MAN-CDG correctly identified with a new callsign.

Hi there ray and all, looking at the back of this week's edition of the Birmingham post, it mentions new destinational flights with qatar from March this month to Sydney, Perth Melbourne and Adelaide, are these new connection flights from Birmingham to Doha or direct ones, a bit confusing.... Qatar are seeing a 'strong demand' with levels of both passengers and freight 'strong' and 'exceeding expectations'. Good to hear (y)

Qatar Airways Sees Strong Demand for Birmingham Service One Year on.

Qatar Airways is reporting strong demand from business and leisure travellers and cargo shippers from the Midlands as it celebrates its first anniversary of flights from Birmingham Airport to Doha

Qatar Airways commenced flights from Birmingham to Doha on 30th March 2016, offering a daily non-stop service to Doha where passengers can seamlessly transfer at its state-of-the-art hub, Hamad International Airport, to flights to over 150 destinations in regions including Asia, Australasia, Africa and the Middle East.

The flight is operated by a state-of-the-art 254 seat Boeing 787 Dreamliner – representing a capacity of over 3,500 seats and over 110 tonnes of cargo carrying capacity per week to and from Birmingham.

Morena Bronzetti, Qatar Airways’ Country Manager UK & Ireland, said: “Just a year on from the start of our service from Birmingham, levels of both passenger and cargo demand are strong and exceeding our expectations.

“It’s clear that business and leisure travellers and cargo shippers from the Midlands have recognised the benefits of being able to travel from their local airport to the huge choice of destinations we serve across the globe.”

To celebrate the anniversary, Qatar Airways is offering passengers flying out of Birmingham Airport on Thursday the chance to win prizes including two free flights for their next holiday and a selection of luxury gifts.

The airport is hosting a treasure hunt for passengers booked on the afternoon flight to Doha. Passengers who find special anniversary paper aeroplanes hidden in the airport terminal can claim their prizes before boarding the flight.

David Winstanley, Chief Operating Officer, Birmingham Airport, said: “We are delighted to celebrate this anniversary with Qatar Airways. The airline gives passengers from our region a great product and an extensive route network in the Gulf and beyond.”

In addition to its existing network of over 150 destinations worldwide, Qatar Airways is due to launch a range of new destinations in 2017 and 2018 which broaden the choices available to travellers from the Midlands. These include Auckland, New Zealand, Canberra in Australia, Chiang Mai in Thailand, Yanbu and Tabuk in Saudi Arabia, Medan in Indonesia, and Libreville in Gabon.

On board the Boeing 787, Qatar Airways’ passengers have a choice of 22 seats in Business Class and 232 Economy Class seats. All seats include individual television screens, with Economy Class customers benefitting from a screen 10.6-inches wide, offering the latest inflight entertainment with up to 2,000 options while experiencing the airline’s award-winning service.

Every seat is an aisle seat in Business Class where passengers can catch up on sleep in a fully-flat bed or make productive use of their time utilising the large work surface area. Passengers can also stay connected while travelling with the option of Wi-Fi which is available throughout the aircraft.

Great to see Qatar a great success at BHX. But to be honest we always knew they would be a roaring success.

Its just a shame more airlines dont give BHX a try, im sure they would also be successfull.

Not strictly BHX related but Qatar are looking at adding several more Indian cities with Pune, Mangaluru, Lucknow, Jaipur, Tiruchirapalli, Chandigarh and Madurai all mentioned along with increased frequencies to the larger Indian airports.

Can anyone remember how long after the announcement of BHXs Qatar service did it go on sale?

We had a quote from Mr Al Baker on July 19th 2012 stating that 'We will operate to three new destinations in the UK, Birmingham will be one of the airports, Al Baker told Travel Weekly.'

http://www.travelweekly.co.uk/articles/41136/qatar-airways-plans-birmingham-doha-route

We then had total silence until Oct 2015 when it was officially announced for a March 2016 start. I believe that it became bookable on the day of the official announcement.

From one press release I read about the new Cardiff route it suggested that there would be discussions over the 'coming months' with regard to the release date so there may be a wait ahead. If the launch is dependant on aircraft deliveries they may want solid conformation before committing?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
