Funny reading through all the old comments on this thread - how much was so wrong (an A350, MAN x3 daily by now) and some things not far of the mark (split schedule). Just goes to show nothing is ever certain until that official announcement.

It took a while but we finally got there!

I often read through early pages of different threads, some of them are real corkers

Adelaide got the A350 in the end. I'd have liked it at BHX, simply for the variety, but I'm more than happy with the 787.

With all the talk of how EK and AI will react I wonder if we will see those extra x2 TK flights that were rumoured?

I think it has been definitely confirmed that they will go 2x daily next year? I'm a little annoyed that they are hardly ever using anything larger than a 739 even with it only at 12 weekly.

I wouldn't expect too many Turkish upgrades over the next year or two now. We've had alot of extra seats come onto the market in a relatively short space of time, I reckon it'll take a while to settle down.

Your annoyed you haven't had anything other than a 739 from Turkish? Send it our way if you're not happy. At Leeds we've only seen one new airline, Vueling with a couple of flights a week!

Indeed, the followers of BHX are the lucky ones this year. And think of EMA, i dont think any new routes have been announced from there and passenger numbers are declining. What a difference a year or two makes. Its actually quite hard to get your head around sometimes.

Not exactly the best view that could have been chosen to promote Birmingham! Still it fits 'any news is good news'.

The building bottom right with the red lights on fronts the Bullring square and is roughly the middle of the complex, it stretches left across to Debenhams which is the building with the wave like pattern. Sadly it's the worst half of the centre, the other half has the impressive Selfridges building.

As said it's definitely not the best angle of the city but I guess there are also views that are much worse

I guess BHX is to EMA what MAN is to BHX

As for the picture of Birmingham I suppose others will be released as the advertising campaign builds up. This isn't the first time an airline seems to have missed the bullseye at the first attempt regarding Birmingham--remember Vueling and their heavy metal adverts?

Great news about Qatar. I hope they have a good advertising campaign lined up, we need people to use it. I expect the double daily Saturday is for people visiting the new 'resort' thing at the NEC.

Promotions fares have been added, and some great deals....

First week in May, the 3 cheapest 1 stop routes are.....

BHX - BKK
1. Qatar = £414 Rtn std. class
2. Emirates = £465 Rtn std. class
3. Air India = £509 Rtn std. class

BHX - SYD
1. Qatar = £708 Rtn std. class
2. Emirates = £747 Rtn std. class
3. (No other one-stop options)

BHX - PEK
1. Lufthansa = £471 Rtn std. class
2. Qatar = £503 Rtn std. class
3. Emirates = £516 Rtn std. class

Never been such a good time to travel long-haul east out of BHX

A look at the new Doha - Hamad International Airport

It looks impressive and a great alternative to DXB.

I last transited Dubai about 10 years ago and it was very busy even back then. I must say that I found the whole thing pretty painless and DXB is very nice but with Emirates relentless expansion I can imagine it must be near to breaking point now.

I find DXB quite an unpleasant experience. It's ultra modern, although some parts are not, and it's always uncomfortably crowded in the circulation areas. I liken it to a crowd leaving a stadium after a major football match such is the density of people in many parts of the airport. Signage within the terminals is also poor and often confusing.

Even with a new purpose built concourse exclusively for A 380s, and often not all 380s can find a stand there and have to park elsewhere around the airport, DXB is always on the go with crowds of passengers either arriving, departing or transiting.

The A380 concourse wasn't built when I last used DXB. My lasting memory however was constantly stepping over sleeping bodies sprawled across the terminal. We found ourselves a quiet little corner of one of the eateries, an Irish bar if memory serves.

I don't know how Doha compares but I hope to find out in the coming years.

Oops, BHX Facebook page just posted about QUATAR airways, despite the fact they included a photo of a Qatar aircraft in the post. It was right there in your picture!

A bit like those who believe the Australian national carrier is Quantas.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
