Just to clarify here - Air India are looking at MAN to Delhi, the Jet Airways service is from MAN to Mumbai.

Whilst Air India launching MAN to Delhi flights might see of increasing the frequency to Delhi from BHX, there would still be scope surely to increase the Amritsar frequency or potentially switch to a larger aircraft if loads are good.

I noticed this Matt995, I saw someone else comment they were planned due to operational requirements, but I doubt 4 out of 5 flights would be cancelled due to this. However, This is Air India so it really is anyone's guess.

It seems as if the change was to add the third weekly Amristar rather than a frequency increase.

Maybe they saw an opportunity to make the most of it being busy by adding extra flights for a few weeks?

Are there any public holidays in India which would potentially affect aircraft scheduling?

Has it been 5 years already?

In celebration of its fifth anniversary of operating flights from Birmingham Airport, Air India – which currently runs four direct services to Delhi and three flights direct to Amritsar each week – is taking perimeter branding throughout England’s 1st Specsavers Test match against India, in addition to working with Edgbaston on a series of digital marketing campaigns.

Recent CAA pax route numbers for June don't support growth or paint a great picture on passenger numbers compared to last year so maybe they don't see the demand.
Jun-18 Jun-17 Change %
Amritsar 5,824 6,067 -243 -4.0%
Delhi 5,992 6,461 -469 -7.3%
Total pax 11,816 12,528 -712 -5.7%

May figures were similar with lower numbers, Amritsar -15% and Delhi -2% carrying 6,137 and 4,742 in May 2018

Sorry those numbers dont display as you type them into the post

Hopefully not a trend. Although the numbers make little difference per flight. I have high hopes for India long term so hopefully no knee jerk reaction by anyone.

That still equates to an average load factor of 78% which for a full service carrier is still damn impressive.

Glad you did the maths Nwoody. 78% is good. I think in the past we have seen rises and falls. It is the medium to long term load factors that will count. Such a huge market in Brum and region.

Also, it’s worth remembering that last year, all flight went to DEL meaning every flight was able to offer onward connections to regional and international routes such as Australia . Now only 4x a flights a week can offer those 1 point connections as you can only fly into DEL from ATQ.

As such, people that might have wanted to fly BHX-DEL-SYD on a Saturday no longer have that cheap option, Emirates or Qatar could therefore benefit!

To my mind, daily flights offer greatest options ...in happy to offer 3x weekly ATQ but hopefully this will come with a daily DEL too

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
