Corrections to the above post,It was VT-AND,and it has since returned to service.
Point still remains though. Not a good record for a national flag carrier airline.
Is it still state run?If so then that makes it worse.

Another bit of bad news I'm afraid.

Air India in recent weeks modified planned service to Birmingham, effective 21OCT18. Existing 4 weekly Amritsar – Delhi – Birmingham routing, on board Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, will be modified to 3 weekly. Overall service will be revised to 6, instead of 7, following this adjustment.

AI113 ATQ1030 – 1135DEL1305 – 1800BHX 788 137
AI114 BHX2130 – 1030+1DEL1200+1 – 1315+1ATQ 788 137

The airline also operates 3 weekly Delhi – Amritsar – Birmingham flights.

Maintenance may be the reason given but there are enough aircraft available to start new routes out of Mumbai and increase frequencies to Australia?

I've heard issue of maintenance and frequency....

With the exception of primary cities, most of the AI international network work on 3x weekly flights, this could also influence things....

Again, hopefully temporary....

Wonder if any of you nice BHX guys can help me. I'm due to fly on 20 Oct BHX to DEL business class. I'm being told the flight is overbooked ....even in business even though I booked on 8 Aug, plus I'm a TAP gold card holder.

Conflicting info from Air India in Birmingham and in call centre Mumbai. Personally I think the fight is cancelled but they just won't say?? Air India Birmingham is saying flight only overbooked in economy Mumbai says all classes, and yet my gold card doesn't seem to matter.
Spoke to a supervisor in Mumbai in end who could not make a decision and will be phoning me ( apparently ) in the morning , this is after a 45 min phone call to their call centre.
Had asked to be rebooked from LHR....was told ' extra cost 'which was when I asked for a supervisor and nearly lost it !!!!

Hi Carl, im sorry to hear about this stressfull situation, again airlines messing around with peoples plans.

Ive just looked on the Air India website and it appears that our Friday flight (As mentioned a few posts up the page) is cancelled from the 19th October (Even though Airlineroutes confims effective from the 21st Oct 2018) and the saturday flight is indeed showing SOLD OUT. I have a feeling that people who were booked on the friday flight transferred over to the saturday. However it doesnt explain why you are being told you cannot travel. My only observation with this would be that it depends on who the other Business class passengers are ? In the airline industry it is very much a case of who you know ??

Also just looked on the Thursday 18th Oct and fares are very high so this will probably be SOLD OUT too very soon .

I hope you get something sorted as it was great that you were using an airline from our airport. (y)

I've just spoke to a very helpful lady called Dee at BHX ticket desk she said I'm definitely on the flight of the 20th as booked and Mumbai should not be ringing me. She is on duty on the 20th so feel more at ease now.

Christmas Day arrival into Birmingham, a lovely picture from an Air India pilot :)

checking the Air India fleet today :-

B787 - 27 aircraft, 4 out of service - VT-ANA last flew 03/12/18, VT-ANE wing damage Stockholm 28/11/18, VT-ANJ last flew 09/10/18, VT-ANK last flew 09/07/18!

B777 - 18 aircraft, 5 out of service - VT-ALO last flew 13/06/18, VT-ALT last flew 14/08/18, VT-ALU last flew 22/09/18, VT-ALV & ALW new aircraft, stored Fort Worth since June 2018!

explains why the Friday BHX flight has been cut, must be cositng them a forutune to have 9 aircraft out of service!

If I remember correctly, are they out of service due to lack of spares? or that AI cannot source the spares for the specific issues?

As stupid as this seems, if it's a spares issue I'm sure they could readily get at least 2 or 3 aircraft back in the air by cannibalising what they have on the ground. Unless all the 787s have the same problem and all the 777s have the same problem.

On the 27th of last month, this article cited financial issues contributing to a lack of spare parts and engines to get the grounded aircraft in the air again.

http://airlinerwatch.com/air-india-to-ground-seventeen-aircraft/

"Two Boeing 787-8, three Boeing 777, four Airbus A319 and eight Airbus A321 from Air India are currently idle at several airports, India's Minister of Aviation Jayant Sinha told. The reason for it is that the carrier lacks money for spare parts and engines to take the airplanes back into operation."

As discussed above, since then the number of their LH aircraft sat idle has increased. Not looking good for AI at the minute

We won't see Turkmenistan again before April at the earliest.

Spicejet have any interest in BHX?

They are 'in talks' with Spicejet and Indigo.

If there was ever a league table published listing airports that held the most 'talks' without ever seeming to get anything from it then BHX must surely be up there.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
