Emirates, as the largest operator of B777 may have problems if FAA insist upon inspections subject to FLIGHT DATA returns. as Boeing is subject to such directives.

This, in turn, shall impact upon all served airports with services suspended temporarily since they are primarily Widebody operators with every airframe in use. The retirement of A340 may be interpreted as premature in this instance.

The same can be said for British Airways and other B777 operators.

Based upon footage available thus far made available on mainstream media, I prefer CNN since Richard Quest is particularly informed in aviation matters, the undercarriage failed upon landing and the aircraft skidded along until coming to rest resulting in a fire taking hold and as footage shows, an explosion and a gutted hull. The Starboard engine appeared to be missing. Some runway and/or taxiways were compromised.

Speculation is risky, legal process must be followed and it should not be long before details from the 'Black Boxes' inform the authorities together with Flight Crew testimonies. It is particularly fortunate that this aircraft landed with all crew surviving, keep in mind the loss of MH370, a similar aircraft still an unexplained loss. It may just shed some light and connect other incidents not widely reported that involved B777.

I also pray for all involved and wish all travelers a safe journey this day.

A Flybe Dash 8 operating MAN-AMS has diverted in due to burst tyre(s).

Arrivals are currently holding with a Monarch A321 from TFS now heading north.

Just noticed several flights are either holding around Birmingham's airspace, and there is a Monarch A321 from Tenerife which I believe is diverting to Manchester. Why could this be?

Don't get it. Why did the Flybe plane land at BHX? It had to circle for an hour and dump fuel. In that time it could have got to its destination at Manchester. Does BHX have an emergency status, like stansted does for hijackings? Glad it made a safe landing though.

Engineering support with the use of that great big hangar if required

According to a report I saw (forget which media source it was), they say they diverted to BHX as 'the winds were more favourable'.

I don't think the winds were that bad at MAN at the time so maybe it was because of the flybe engineering base and thus more equipped to sort the wheel out.

I understand from reading BBC reports quoting Airport insiders ( the media can never be trusted in my opinion ) that BHX had better climatic conditions for an emergency than that of Manchester at the critical moment of decision making.

The CAA report shall reveal the truth in due course ant NOT the media! Big Vern also offers pertinent thoughts that supports the reasons for landing at BHX.

There is a thunderstorm overhead at the moment with the kind of intensity that I've only experienced abroad in hot countries.

Nothing has departed for a while and we've currently got a couple holding with a Thomson (Sunwing) from Chania heading south.

The storm looks to be moving away now with bright skies behind but it's been a long time since I've seen/heard thunder and lightning like that.

C-FEAK from Chania has gone to LGW.

G-EZAJ from Belfast looks as if it's on it's way to LTN.

We've got departures which are making a left turn but there's still a couple more inbounds holding.

Yeah I was at work in my office and at approx 5.00pm it went pitch black like at night time. All the street lights came on and the sky was dark. Then the heaven's opened and then the thunder and lighting. Bright sunshine and blue sky again now. How weird is the weather sometimes.

Hey all,

Was on the EZY from BFS. It circled a few times near Worcester, the captain advising if the thunderstorm didn't pass in 12 mins, we would divert to LTN. The captain advised that a plane had already been struck by lightning on approach to BHX and a Thomson had gone to LGW.
I'm currently on a minibus to BHX, courtesy of Easyjet.

Btw the captain didn't wait 12 mins.....decided on LTN after about 4 minutes.

Could be worse I suppose.

Cheers all

Karl

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
