Hi there Ray and all, I wonder why all the diverts are by passing birmingham airport like the plague, could this be kehoes issue that he caused while at Birmingham and how he treated all aircraft while trying to use birmingham, I wonder why.. AndyC

I very much doubt it as I think BHX gets a large ammount of diversions, it`s just the way the cookie crumbles today

What you need to remember is it is the airline not the airport that makes the decision to divert to an alternative airport and it is the airline that makes the decision to choose which airport to divert to.

MAN does like issuing a no-div NOTAM so I would say occasionally airports do have a say if they are willing to accept diversions.

If you can see the building work at Manchester I think we were lucky to get any, never mind only 4 months and the first of the new piers opens

I don’t think there is any major conspiracy theory regarding diversions, airlines will ideally want to divert to an airport where they have a presence so they will at least have staff and contacts on the ground - explains why Norwegian and EZY opted to divert to their other bases, why Virgin opted for LHR and MAN. Off course there are anomalies (BA to NCL, NAX to DSA) but these can be attributed to various factors such as low fuel, avaliable ground staff, stand availability etc. I think BHX has took more than a fair share.

Okay then, no US carrier diverted in. Could that be current relations with BHX? Emirates did and a huge Thank you for that given standard restrictions on multiple A380 ops.

That said, was there any reference in the masterplan about a secondary A380 stand for diverts or possible expansion of services?

No conspiracies here just decisions made according to operational needs.

As said some airlines may favour an airport where they already have a presence for obvious reasons, then there are handling considerations (staffing levels etc), the availability of coaches in the area to get pax to where they need to be, or simply space at the airport. BHX isn't exactly a huge airport blessed with plenty of stands and at this time of year things will be running towards near full capacity, do we know that they haven't dissuaded diverts to protect their own 'passenger experience', something that they seem very concerned about at the moment?

It wasn't that long ago we had multiple BA wide bodies along with plenty of easyjet and god knows what else pouring in, they even had aircraft parked along the taxiways.

It's time for tough new measures to be bought in to stop these idiots before something catastrophic happens.

I totally agree thunderchild and well stated. Nothing to do with BHX per se.

And the most important thing is people are safe and the police, and now the army, do their job. Hoping the idiot/s are caught ASAP and face more than 5 years. But it sounds like an orchestrated action involving more than one drone which if it tips into terrorism may increase the prison sentence.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
