There is always the possibility of the occasional E135 or E145 calling into LBA operating a charter or in place of the usual aircraft, so I would think that if the markings were faded, they would need renewing anyway. Anyone know though if they have painted some nice new markings on the apron for the Bombardier CRJ 900 due in on its maiden flight from Copenhagen?

Strangely enough the ERJ135/145 markings on stand 3 at LBA were the largest I have ever seen!! You can actually see them on google earth with the bmi parked up! Also I might add they were less than a year old when they were removed by LBIA... Strange really.

As for the CRJ it should be able to park up on any stand apart from 1 and 3. The stands from 9 to 24 only have stop lines designated A, B & C. They don't bother applying a marker for every single a/c type on stands with no airbridge these days as it's a total mess!

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

They're so large, all they're short of is some Braille markings to go with it.

I recall hearing somebody saying the company that made those lines messed up, hence why you don't see them like that anywhere else on the ramp.

LNT home and dry with Leeds Bradford Airport runway contract

Leeds-based LNT Solutions has secured a contract to supply Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) with their GEN3 runway de-icer.

LBA, the highest airport in the UK, has recently introduced GEN3, a third generation runway de-icer designed to keep runways clear of ice for longer periods.

The de-icer formula ensures friction improvements are maximized on active runways and taxiways.

LNT Solutions also reports savings of up to 20% on the amount of fluid needed as a result of less frequent application.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

The Airport are currently messing about with the stand layouts we now have 15L and 15R also I understand that stand 14 can now fit a A330 on it
Also I been told the stands 19 to 24 are to be re-aligned so 3 737-300 can park side by side

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Is this the big stand reshuffle or a just tweaking? I was under the impression the apron road was going to be moved behind the stands from around stand 7 to stand 18?

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

I know this might seem like a daft question but why do we need a stand marked up for aircraft sized up to A330. Here's hoping the airport know something we don't?

This is the existing stand layout chart. Will add new chart below when its uploaded on to the following website http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/in ... d=137.html

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Good question. I guess it makes it easier for Airside Safety Unit who allocate the stands, particularly during inbound diversion days.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Stand 8 and 14 will have new diagonal parking lines added to accommodate larger a/c if required.

The outlines of an A330/787 on stand 8 are clearly visible on a plan I've seen. Aviador the airside road will not be moving behind the stands now. It was an option but was rejected for some reason late on so the plans reverted back to all traffic on the front of stands road.

The large parking stands are been added because the current large a/c stands 20 & 23 are been re aligned to fit up to six 733's.

More flexibility for ASU and the airport but it certainly isn't a fix! I've said it before and I'll say it again that master plan better have 4-6 new parking stands on it!

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Most likely these changes are intended to compliment whatever plans they have to increase the number of stands rather than instead of building any. I see this as a positive - something good that might link to something even better. On top of the recent excellent passenger figures I am for once feeling positive - like something good is coming. To those who prefer to be negative - please don't spoil it for me!!

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Funnily enough, I thought the stuff on stands 22/24 were parked all funny when I was up there on Sunday. A 757 seemed to be parked at an angle.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Landed last night on Monarch's ALC service, we was parked on a remote stand (21) I think, then soon after we parked up, a Ryanair was parked at a funny angle literally blocking our Monarch aircraft in, then another Ryanair was on finals and a Thomson was still yet to land, there was also a Jet2 737-300 parked the taxiway, I think at least another 5 stands is required at LBA, very tight squeeze indeed.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Slightly relevant but it was great to see the loop really effective yesterday between 4-6pm for fluid 14 departures, a/c taxiing in pairs with one lining up whilst the other held short at E1 regardless of airline.

It made me realise once more how a loop would benefit 32 so much instead of a/c having to hold short at D1 then backtrack and lineup which takes longer and a parallel taxiway between A2 and E2. We can only dream I guess.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

I think a parallel taxiway to the start end of 32 is a distinct possibility. It would be sensible and better value for money to build it at the same time as any additional stands are built. I think the latter are a certainty in the not too distant future so lets hope they see the sense of doing the whole thing as a package and killing two issues at the same time.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

I heard this afternoon there is a problem with the runway at the 32 end where some of the concrete has collapsed, the aircraft cannot fully backtrack now

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Thanks for that Moo! What is the condition of the aircraft that sank into it, presuming that must have been what happened?

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Maybe we had better have a whip round for some concrete!!

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

hi bigman
could that be the only new concrete we see this year?? :drinks:

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

I was in Homebase in Yeadon yesterday. I was wondering why they were out of quick setting concrete fix.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
