Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

If they landed further back on runway 32 wouldn't that sove the long flare? Cos it looks flater the more you go back towards the threshold.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

For those who are unaware the green lights are also a good indication as to where the old touchdown markers used to be before the runway was extended.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Hi everyone!
I was just browsing on Instagram (a picture application for smart phones) and someone has put a picture on of diggers at LBA, on the comments underneath, somebody asks;

'What are you doing up there?'

the owner of the picture then replies

'we are installing new cables on the runway for new lights, we finish next week and will continue in September'

then a few comments later, the owner of the picture who has been working on the cables at LBA put;

'they (LBA) are also putting in some extra stands which we are pricing up'

Now I know that this is not the most reliable source however if there is any truth to this, it seems LBA are considering new stands and must be in contact with the same company (an most likely others) for a price to add more stands, this does sound promising, however make of that, what you will!

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

As I suggested a few months ago, extend the apron to incorporate the old runway 28.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

We'll if they are doing the apron expansion. That means they must have some kind off agreement with the based airlines for growth next year. As I have been told they would not have committed to spending a load of money building them without.

So who's it going to be! Ryanair, Monarch, Thomson, jet2 or maybe British Airways night stopper?

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

I've just had a look at the photo and there does seem to be a lot of heavy equipment up there!

If they're finishing their work on the cables this week, and only just pricing up the cost of new stands, could we be looking at them possibly planning the works this Summer, for them to be built during the course of next Winter when the diggers are back?? - With it all being ready for Summer 2015..?

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

[offtopic]Unfortunately, Instagram is a solely smart-phone app. It does have a website and allows you to browse through yours and the people you follows' photos, but doesn't let you search.[/offtopic]

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Photo remains the property of the owner

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Yes that's the picture tomleeds, any chance you could screen shot the comments and post them?

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

So far as I am aware this work is just the usual annual runway maintenance work, nothing else.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Yes I think it is Aviador. However the comments under the picture go on the lines of;
'we are also pricing up some aircraft parking stands for LBA'
so it looks like the airport is in contact with contractors and finding out the price for the extra stands.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

Interesting stuff. Funny how we find these things out before the long awaited materplan has even been released.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

I would suspect that if this is correct, LBA are purely pricing up so they can consider overall costs and what goes into the Masterplan and when. I have posted before that LBA are fully aware of the constraints caused by the lack of stands, although they deny completely that it is in any way holding LBA development back a the present time. They did say that what goes in the Masterplan is more likely to happen than what was in the previous one - so before they publish it, they will surely want to know rough budget costs for the works and then ensure they are able to secure the funding from Bridgepoint. Whether that translates into more stands this year or further into the future remains to be seen.

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

I don't know if this of significance but the fire station re-applied the ERJ135/145 markings to stand 3 yesterday. Could we be in for an upgrade from Eastern or perhaps the return of bmi??

I see the latter have just gained SN Brussels code shares on their new NCL-BRU service!

:crazy:

Re: Runways, Aprons and Taxiways.

There is always the possibility of the occasional E135 or E145 calling into LBA operating a charter or in place of the usual aircraft, so I would think that if the markings were faded, they would need renewing anyway. Anyone know though if they have painted some nice new markings on the apron for the Bombardier CRJ 900 due in on its maiden flight from Copenhagen?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
