Has anyone noticed that we have had a few Embraer 190s this week on our various services. I also noticed a Dash 8-400 parked in the corner on stand one today.Maybe it was technical ?

Hi a300boy

Yep Flybe's Dash 8-400's tend to be parked on stand 1 facing outwards now-a-days when it's available due to it been a the self parking stand, So no need for a push-back on departure. If stand 1 is already occupied then they are normally parked nose-in on stand 5 and require push-back for departure.

I also agree with you that the Embraer 195 seems to becoming a regular on the Southampton route just of late. But I have read elsewhere in recent days that this maybe due to the lack/shortage of available Dash 8 crews at the moment.

Anyone know why this mornings Flybe 9233 to Innsbruck left Leeds over one hours late. Have a friend who was meeting the flight in Innsbruck who has just text me to say the flight is diverting to Munich. Innsbruck airport is fully operational and all other flights are landing and depart OK. Did the aircraft go tech in Leeds before departure and perhaps has encountered similar problems on route hence the diversion to Munch with its longer runway.

gotta feel sorry for the passengers on BE732 1750 to Belfast who have ended up with an over 4 hour delay because of this.

Well its took them a long time to do it, But its good to see that flybe carried there 2.5 millionth passenger from Leeds Bradford Airport last week according to the following artical that was just posted this afternoon.

For more details and photo's see flybe's facebook page using the following link https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.548666988539488.1073741829.127218037351054&type=3

Flybe celebrates passenger milestone at Leeds Bradford!

Last week we celebrated our 2.5 millionth Flybe passenger, Mr Bill McGinnis, at Leeds Bradford Airport with a special 2013 time capsule.

To mark this major milestone, we received the assistance of ten year old Hannah Lund and nine year old Freya Richardson who won a competition to have their artwork included in the capsule for future discovery. School pupils from Rufford Park Primary in Yeadon will be invited back to unearth the capsule when we reached our five million passenger milestone at the airport.

I guess the big question now is how many years will it take to reach the next milestone of five million passengers. Flybe originally intended to open a base at LBA and carry upwards of a million passengers annually. How things change!

Flybe have today released there summer 2014 flights for sale on its website. There are no major changes for Leeds/Bradford services as it retains all 3 routes operating to Belfast City, Southampton and Glasgow operated by Loganair.

It's nice to see that they are plugging connections with Emirates via Glasgow.

morning all :hatsoff:
bad news for flybe staff,500 redundancies announced (bbc news) hope our flights will
remain untouched.
regards
smi

I hope so too Snowman. I guess some of the big bases, ie Birmingham, Manchester and Southampton will come out worse. I think out Southampton service might go as a result of all this, but surely the Belfast City will continue given the recent surge in passenger figures.

I wouldn't mind betting we lose them off the summer Innsbruck flights. Hopefully they will go to Tyrollean next year

I would be unsurprised to find that almost all of those job losses will be linked to the closure of the Gatwick base with no real expansion planned at other bases, ergo, no opportunity for relocation. If the route to Southampton was under threat, why on earth would they release next year's schedule which continues with three return trips a day? Doesn't make sense. Whichever way one looks at it, the company is a real mess at the moment and simply lacked good leadership when it was required.

The "collapse" in domestic air travel is in no small part due to the poor product offering from the likes of Flybe. Over central portions of the country, where train travel is fast and frequent, it is hard for them to compete. However, as has been said numerous times, flying is still often the best way to get from A to B over the longer domestic routes and the cost is often competitive. Easyjet have proven this to be the case and, indeed, are opening 2 routes from Gatwick the day after FlyBe closes them. On top of this, Easyjet already operate in direct competition to FlyBe on 3 of their other routes from the same airport. Furthermore, Eastern have shown that a flight can sit alongside a half hourly train journey that takes 3.5 to 4 hours on the Newcastle - Birmingham sector.

Flybe have simply been caught with their trousers down on the wrong routes with the wrong aircraft. Now they are focussing properly on their core routes where they control the market and are removing the loss makers that have been around far too long. I am still concerned that their aircraft fleet is wrong (outside the Q400 core). Less than 100 seat jets do not work very well on point to point operations. In their restructuring plan (which is available for all to read online) even FlyBe nod massively toward this reality by stating that they need to get as much from the E-195 as possible. In other words, they need to fill these aircraft to the rafters and squeeze every last flying hour from them.

FlyBe have shown themselves to be totally ruthless with LBA having previously cut London City, Gatwick, Aberdeen, Exeter, Knock etc which leads me to believe that the current routes are safe. There is no doubt in my mind that if they did not work they would have gone already. Having said that, in the case of Aberdeen and Exeter, at least, they were around much longer than they should have been, considering their performance. Flybe's problems are far wider and more deep rooted than the couple of routes they now operate from LBA.

Flybe's problems get no better as the following press release has been issued today.

Flybe Group Plc said its majority shareholder, Rosedale Aviation Holdings, has sold its entire 48.1 percent stake in the airline to bluechip institutional investors.

Flybe shares fell as much as 15 percent in early trade, making the embattled carrier's stock the biggest percentage loser on the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday morning.

The company's free float is now expected to increase to 85 percent, Flybe said in a statement.

Rosedale Aviation Holdings, controlled by the family trust of the late Jack Walker, the steel magnate, placed the shares through Liberum Capital.

Liberum said the buyers were UK institutions but declined to provide any additional details.

Flybe's second largest shareholder after Rosedale is British Airways owner International Consolidated Airlines Group , with a 15 percent stake on June 14.

The airline, whose other shareholders include billionaire investor George Soros and recently departed chairman Jim French, has been struggling under the weight of soaring fuel costs and higher airport charges.

The company, which operates Europe's largest regional airline, said on Monday it would cut 500 jobs in addition to the 590 positions it axed earlier in the year. Flybe also said it would further reduce its routes, review its fleet mix, remove surplus capacity and improve aircraft and crew utilisation.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
