I think there is huge scope for a Flybe type operation in the u.k., however, for it to grow and prosper it really needs to have removed the present financial noose round its neck.
Shareholder value has already been reduced by 80% , so only a small step to restructure the balance and get the company on a sound financial basis.
 
Its just been announced that a new FlyBe route is to commence from Newcastle to London City Airport....It never really worked for LBA which was a shame as I used it many times.....should have bought some shares! Haha.

That's because the DLR railway hadn't opened the last time Leeds had a service to London City. It was canned just before it opened.

It will be operated by Eastern so good look there Newcastle......

It is however at the detriment to the ABZ-LCY service as it’s that, that will drop into Newcastle on the way to London City.
 
Unfortunatley as Ed Balls found out with sharon Shoesmiths handling of baby P, whatever the faults of an employee may be, to fire them even with logical reasons, may not meet the threshold of legal requirements.
 
Think someone would jump on to the Belfast route as its profitable, be it to Belfast int'l instead of city. The Newquay and Dusseldorf routes would probably lost though.

This really begs the question as to who would want to buy Flybe as it stands now?
  • Are Stobart Group really that intrested after being knocked back by Flybe's share holders earlier this year? They are just about in the red after pumping £18m into Southend Airport.
  • IAG could be an interesting option. Let BA Use the LCY/LHR slots and make LCY an even stronger hub. EI could use some of the fleet to further feed DUB hub. Strip the remaining operation by keeping the profitable routes under Flybe brand and get rid of the loss making parts, eg Project Blackbird and the E190 jets..
  • Then the is the likes of Cityjet and Flybmi/Loganair whom have all successfully restructured in recent years. And even smaller players like Aurginy, Blue Islands and Eastern Airways.

Could add Air France/KLM there. Flybe have pretty big Paris and Amsterdam operations and KLM i believe are short of slots and could takeover the E175s for Cityhopper.
 
I wouldn't exactly call it a big operation at CDG. A good few flights a day...including my flight with them on Sunday morning from Manny. They were a damn sight better to fly with than Air France on the return flight, who quite frankly couldn't organise a f@#k up in a brothel.
 
KPMG are just auditors @lbaspotter and it will be part of the process of selling the airline to get a more accurate price for its assets. Any company looking to buy Flybe will likely request a full audit is carried out.
 
To be honest with you I actually think no one will come to buy them now. Sad as it may seem, Its actually far better to let them collapse.
Then the vultures like Easyjet, Ryanair, Stobart and other airlines can come in and cherry pick the best bits without the hefty overhead costs of a full take over.
 
This isn't good at all. Share Price down again and now it look as if Flybe have in called crisis experts KPMG to assess its books - If I remember correctly KPMG were the same administrator that assisted Monarch Airlines in October last year.

As the article says, the biggest worry now is the attitude of the big 2 credit card companies and as to if they start demanding more cash to handle payments. Not far behind will be the oil companies, looking to see how much credit, they will allow. The big question now is ..would you book a ticket with Flybe for any time in the future??..

If i needed to yes. I'd just make sure i used a credit card and that i had the money put aside just in case something went wrong but confidence in the airline will be dented.
 
If they do survive, I can see them retreating to their big bases at MAN and BHX, and everywhere else such as LBA, NCL, DSA, EXT, SOU, NQY will probably get left behind. Perhaps big fleet reduction to cut costs??

I would add BHD to their big bases.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
