So, with Newquay back at last, extra flights to Belfast City and Guernsey back on too, the domestic side of things is definitely picking up at last. We just need Ryanair to come up with Belfast International, and someone to put Isle of Man back on and we will be laughing!!

We need Edinburgh back too. Exeter would be nice as well, although I can't imagine anyone other than Flybe doing it, so we could have a long wait.

I find this a very interesting move by Flybe considering they operate from DSA. I wonder if they will use the EMB195 at Doncaster to another destination (sun?) and consolidate the NQY route on the smaller Dash8 at LBA. I can't see Flybe filling an EMB195 to NQY in the winter, even on a couple days.

I suspect they are giving the Robin Hood flights a head start on us and then when it gets to the winter timetable they could drop it if it has not done too well. As you say the Lba flight could then be used as it is being paid for by the grant.

Having just looked at the Flybe timetable for DSA, NQY flights don't go beyond October. They are committed to 41 weekly flights for the winter so it is highly likely that the LBA flight will replace the DSA flight.
(2 x EMB195 x 3 flights/day x 7 days/week = 42 flights.)

According to the Newquay Airport website, the DSA flight is summer only and finishes in October. Whilst the news is to be welcomed it's a pity that the flights commence in the winter when demand (you would at least think) will be at its lowest. However - if it's subsidised it might survive through to next summer - when according to the Newquay Airport website it becomes a five times a week service.

Strange as it may sound, I can see a little bit of sense in that. With a little bit of additional funding, the route can slowly build up interest and passenger numbers and be ready for a full onslaught at the Summer season next year where, theoretically, it will make a bit of money. Had it started this summer, it would not have made as much money as it would have been bedding in. With the funding in place, it at least gives the route a good chance. In comparison, the Doncaster service has no such luxury and could be pulled if it does not perform based on a swift introduction and, we believe, unsuitable aircraft.

In my days at the airport I used to count between 10 and 15 off the aircraft on a good day. Pre recession maybe 20-25 with the help of HBOS!

Was just having a thought, with Flybe's LBA base very close to being secured before DSA snatched them, I was wondering of what routes Flybe would of done from LBA, does anybody think that the routes would be same as DSA or do people think they may have been different? I couldn't imagine Flybe competing with ZB, LS & FR on ALC, AGP and FAO

I think you could have definitely included routes to #CDG, #AMS, #BER, #JER, #DUS plus also #NQY which we now have starting for the winter season on a 3 year deal. I bet we might have also kept the #SOU link as well. Like you say "Ap1995" I fail to see how they would have been able to compete against the likes of FR, LS, ZB and TOM out of LBA.

It's not confirmed but i have heard that it wasn't just LBA and DSA fighting it out for that 2x flybe Embraer 190 deal. (Part of Project Bluebird) As I understand the owners of Church Fenton/Leeds East were also involved in talks with flybe as well at the same time.

Agree with #CDG #BER #JER and possibly #DUS but I personally can't see any other airline competing on #AMS anytime soon as the route is monopolised with KLM and Jet2. To come in as a 3rd airline and be competitive/undercut would make for very slim profit margins.

Just want to ask a question about Flybe's Belfast to Leeds flights? How reliable are they? do they have a high number of cancellation or delays? Reason i'm asking is my sister lives like 5 mins down the road from LBA and i'm going to visit her in October for a couple of days and as CWL doesn't have a LBA service the easiest route is via BHD. Been looking at flying or train and i'm just weighing up my options at the moment. Thanks!

Hi Jerry, the Flybe route to Belfast is pretty reliable with very few cancellations. The only usual issues are weather related (fog) but in comparison to the number of flights, the number of diverts is tiny.
