Bill Clinton's wife Hillary arrived in a separate flight just before Bill in Airforce One, on a B707 as was always the case in those days. C5 Galaxy and C141 Starlifters brought in all the helicopters (4 ?) and bullet proof limousines etc. It was quite a foggy evening I recall.

Think it was with all the special equipment for Bill .... I remember them unloading cars & a helicopter??

Ah thank you, I never knew that. I had thought he came in a Galaxy but obviously not.

Some fantastic images there. I loved the BA / AA days. The BA (767?) was always parked up on that end slot in the Eurohub wasn't it? I loved those days. Buying the A4 sheet of flight schedules from the man in the observation deck...ah the memories. Britannia, Air 2000, Canada 3000, Leisure Int., Air UK Leisure, JMC, Inter-European, TEA...these were all my 'growing up' Airlines.

Great photos, Simon. You were obviously there on many of the same occasions that I was (I used to spend an unhealthy amount of time at BHX). It seems that although it was quieter then (excepting current circumstances), there seemed a greater variety of aircraft/liveries and special flights.
Were you at BHX on the day that an MD-11 tow bar buckled as the tug pushed it back? I seem to remember the aircraft being parked on the old pier where terminal two (Eurohub) now stands. The tug was pushing the Martinair MD-11 back and as it started to turn, the tow bar bent in two. This resulted in the front of the tug being lifted clear of the ground (and those things weigh a lot!). The tug was uncoupled and before the aircraft was moved, the engineers brought out a sheet (I'm guessing Teflon or similar) and placed it under the nose wheel. The nose wheel was then turned fully left and right while checks were carried out. One thing that surprised me was when the nose gear was at full turn only one of the wheels was in contact with the ground. This appeared to be normal, as the aircraft was soon on its way.

Fabulous collection of photos!. I had almost forgot about a few of those airlines!. What a range of carriers ar that time. Thank you.

Hi Kevin/all,thanks for the comments. There certainly seemed to be a lot more variety in the 1980`s/90`s with more UK Airlines and loads of Spanish/Turkish carriers.I was at BHX in the late afternoon/evening on 13/6/96 after work and most of the days arrivals were still parked up waiting to take Euro 96 fans back after the game at Villa Park.MD11 PH-MCT was still in and didn`t leave till the early hours of the next day. From looking at my picture it has a set of steps by the nosewheel and a towbar attached so was probably the one involved! Regards,Simon.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
