It appears flightradar haven't changed the registration for that sel-cal. I occasionally watch flightradar but I think that you can't trust it that well.

Tarn Spotter...Luton is on the Midland Main Line, not the West Coast Mainline. This means that a change in central London is necessary, ie St Pancras Thameslink to either Marylebone (for Wembley Park) or Euston (for Wembley Central). They may of course have coaches sorted out.

Leedsman..OZBY worked both the inbound and outbound flights yesterday, but as a few have mentioned FR24 still picks up the old reg.

Finally, well done Monarch for getting in there with a charter!!

bigman: As the train I catch at Derby for Luton is the express from Glasgow, thought west coast main line. Sorry accept Midland, never checked. They just give out a message telling us not to get on with the wrong tickets and advising stopping only in Luton Parkway and London.

Yes and I don't no if anyone has noticed but there new premises for there engineers in a portakabin has been placed next to jet2.com stand 17

Monarch has just aired a TV ad on ITV 1 in association with LBIA. The ad said something like "Leeds Bradford Airport is proud to announce the arrival of Monarch Airlines flying to X destinations."

Does anyone know which aircraft will be based at LBA for the summer yet? I'm presuming (always dangerous I know) they will both be A320s.

It will be 2 A320's airforced.

Here's hoping for the new ones with sharklets G-ZBAA & G-ZBAB. :good:

That would be nice LBA787 but isn't it more likely that any new aircraft would go to Head Office, ie Luton, rather than to a new base out in the sticks?

We can live in hope though.

Actually more likely to head to either LGW or MAN, the 2 biggest bases.

Both aircraft to be based at LBA from April are brand new A320's and will carry their first revenue passengers out of LBA, so not going to Luton, or Gatwick or Manchester. I guess than inevitably they will end up moving around at some time to cover other aircraft, but certainly for starters that is the situation according to the airport MD today.

That's good news that we'll be getting the a320 with sharklets at Leeds. Having seen one of the aircraft, i like them and think it looks smart with the new monarch livery.

Quite a brave move, putting two new entrants to a new base with minimal engineering support! No doubt there will be some initial teething problems, but hopefully technical reliability will be improved compared to the rest of the Airbus fleet.

More than likely the aircraft will be swapped around from time to time, hopefully to protect the LBA flying programme, its intense and I just hope that when they do get the first major technical delay they are able to pull it together, some days those aircraft are doing night flights too, very little buffer to absorb delays!!

Most surprising I have to say but very welcome indeed.

I'm looking forward to going to Crete with Monarch on 4 May. Not sure from the linked piece if both aircraft will be new as it says the new aircraft will be joined by a 'similar' A320 in April. 'Similar' doesn't necessarily say 'New' to me. I hope it is one of the new ones though. Fingers crossed eh.

I'll report back in due course.

2013 News - Flights - Monarch Airlines’ expansion continues with new aircraft delivery

14 03 2013

Leading scheduled leisure airline, Monarch has today taken delivery of a new Airbus A320 aircraft. The aircraft forms part of the airline’s expansion programme which will see the fleet grow in size from 32 aircraft in 2012, to 38 during this financial year to October 2013.

The new aircraft will be based at Leeds Bradford airport where Monarch is about to start its first full summer programme of flying to twelve new destinations. A second similar A320, to be delivered in April, will also be based at Leeds Bradford.

Monarch becomes the first UK airline to operate aircraft fitted with Airbus Sharklets. These enhancements to the wingtip save fuel, increase performance, lower carbon emissions and improve payload by up to 450kg. The Sharklets cut down on aerodynamic drag by helping to reduce the spiral shaped vortices that are formed at the wingtips of any aircraft during flight.

“We are delighted to be taking delivery of our first new aircraft for a number of years,” Kevin George, Managing Director of Monarch Airlines said. “Basing the new aircraft at Leeds Bradford demonstrates further commitment to the airline’s expansion in the north and coincides with the launch of twelve new routes out of the Yorkshire airport, giving greater choice to our new customers in the area. We are also pleased to be using the new Sharklet technology, which will be both more environmentally friendly and more economic as we embrace the benefits of new aircraft design.”

In November 2012, Monarch announced plans for the re-equipping of its aircraft fleet from 2015 onwards. This re-equipping programme envisages an order for a total of over 45 replacement and expansion aircraft for delivery up to 2021. Invitations have been issued to the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers to submit proposals for supplying these aircraft to Monarch Airlines through an acquisition strategy which will consider both leasing and purchasing of aircraft. This process will also embrace the new, more fuel efficient technology being introduced by the major manufacturers from 2018 onwards as part of Monarch Airlines’ ongoing drive to operate as efficiently and competitively as possible.

To fulfil its immediate expansion requirements in its existing Airbus fleet before 2015, Monarch Airlines is taking delivery of these first two new Airbus A320 aircraft, to be followed in May 2013 by two new A321 aircraft.

Just seen on another forum that the Monarch loads are looking 'Tasty' I hope this is true! Also I found out today that my Grandma is booked on the Faro flight for April and I am on the Palma flight in July, lets hope the loads are healthy!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
