It landed at Newcastle around 1245 having done a NCL - LBA - NCL flight according to Flight Radar 24. Not ideal weather for seeing it or photography though. Try again next time!

I managed to catch a glimpse of it this morning. thankfully the cloud base was sufficiently high enough to see it even if it was only for only a moment or two. It's such a superb aircraft and it was surprising how quiet it was even in the climb out towards the North West.

G-ZBJE on today's training.

Leaving LHR 0805 LT and then leaving NCL at 0950 & 1120 on NCL-NCL sectors and finally departing NCL at 1430 to return to LHR.

Weather looks nice at LBA, afraid I don't know on which sectors it may call by.

Looks like the British Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner, G-ZBJE is not visiting LBA today afteral. As his airborne out of NCL as BAW9169 and looks to be passing LBA at 25,000ft and climbing heading back down to LHR.

Typical. Good weather and I spent 4 hours up at LBA with my camera today to see it - and they decide to by pass us!! Sometimes I really hate this hobby. :whiteflag:

Really sorry Heather

I have no way of telling what the trainers decide to do. I believe on one of the earlier days LBA ATC declined an approach as too busy (fair enough - no revenue in it) so they went to MME. I wonder if they found MME a little nearer and a lot quieter and so returned there but it's purely speculation.

Sorry you had a wasted journey all the same.

Regards

I heard a conversation on my airband radio this morning as the B787 went northbound to Newcastle from Heathrow at around 0900. An aircraft which I believe to be the the one in question was told that somewhere which may have been Lbia was too busy to accommodate them. I could not hear the ground station so cannot be sure if this is correct.

At the time the 787 was on it's way south yesterday from Newcastle there were 3 or 4 inbound to LBA, so that is probably why it didn't make it.

Ridgeback, thank you but you have no need to apologise. It is a risk of the hobby and I am well used to it. As for LBA being busy, it was anything but yesterday. What few flights arrived came in little groups, and there were long gaps within which the 787 could have made its approach. To be honest, I was bored silly as there was very little to watch. True it did become busier later but from what I gathered, the 787 had already gone South, leaving NCL earlier than expected. Perhaps we may get lucky on Friday!

Hi all

I've been at work all week this week and as far as I know there has never been any intention of the 787 coming. I'm led to believe next week is the next time it puts in an appearance. We certainly wouldn't turn it away

Hope that helps?

Thanks Bianchi016, it certainly does and it saves me another day waiting for something that isn't likely to show. What you say is also confirmed by your colleagues in the tower and airport operations, both of whom I have chatted to today after the latest Consultative Committee meeting, which included a visit to your colleagues in the tower - which was brilliant. And a tour of the airfield - equally brilliant. Unfortunately nobody seems to know which days or what times the 787 is due next week.

I was just thinking back to all the discussion that surrounded PIA when the talk was of them landing a 777 and alot of the discussion centred around fire cover and the correct tow truck attachments for a 777 at LBA. If BA (or indeed someone like Thomson) wanted to land a 787 at LBA does the airport have the correct facilities in place to deal with that particular type of aircraft and is there any difference whether the plane comes in empty 'for a practice' as opposed to being full of paying passengers? Someone will know!! :dunno: Thanks in advance

Depending on the variant of the 787 the fire category is CAT8 or CAT9, CAT8 for the 787-8 and CAT9 for the 787-9 and 10 series. All categories can be accommodated by the LBA fire service except CAT10 which is required for the A380 and 747-800. Similarly the fire categories required for the new A350-800 is CAT8 and the A350-900 & A350-1000 is CAT9.

That's good to hear. Let's hope the yield is good too so we can hold onto this much needed route.

It would seem British Airways Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner, G-ZBJG is doing some crew training duties this afternoon. Its just completed a NCL-MME-NCL flight as BAW9165.

So maybe a possible visit to LBA later hopefully, but knowing my luck though it I'll go NCL-LHR direct!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
