I don't know why we don't just organise a forum get together at some local hostelry. It would be good to get to know fellow forum regular other than those that I already know.

Interesting idea Bigman! Potential and BA are not always two things to be used in the same sentence, despite the fact I totally agree with the potential. Trouble is BA are probably happy with the connecting traffic as is.The one saving grace is numbers are probably good enough to support an a320 which is probably as well with the a319s on the way out. Anyway lets see what happens

So NCL and ABZ are losing frequency on LHR this winter. 7 and 6 weekly flights respectively. So its not just LBA that BA are going off lol. All about finding slots from somewhere to support those international routes with increased frequency

So NCL and ABZ are losing frequency on LHR this winter.

That's just normal winter reductions. Also ABZ is not a surprise considering the state of the oil & gas market.

Also the vast majority of the increases in frequencies for winter are in the short haul network.

New Routes
Durban - 3 x Weekly service begins 29OCT18.
Marrakech - 4 x Weekly service begins 28OCT18. Flights from LGW will continue up to 8 x weekly

Frequency Increased (Short Haul)
Barcelona - From 46 to 53 x Weekly
Berlin - From 53 to 55 x Weekly
Budapest - From 20 to 23 x Weekly
Gibraltar - From 9 to 13 x Weekly
Larnaca - From Daily to 10 x Weekly
Las Palmas - From 1 to 2 x Weekly
Lyon - From 21 to 23 x Weekly
Malaga - From 4 to 6 x Weekly
Prague - From 27 to 34 x Weekly
Rome - From 41 to 42 x Weekly
Santiago - From 4 to 5 x Weekly
Stuttgart - From 13 x weekly to 2 x daily
Vienna - From 34 to 36 x Weekly
Zurich - From 42 to 44 x Weekly

Frequency Increased (Long Haul)
Miami - From 2 to 3 x Daily
Washington - From 2 x Daily to 17 x Weekly

Lets hope LBA get a sniff then and not the likes of LPL, MME and maybe even CAX. Not worried whether BE or BA just as long as its someone on the route

That is a very good point about the talked about LHR link into HS2. That would potentially give Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Sheffield and all points North direct access to LHR.

I think domestic travel within the UK is in a bit of a mess generally at the moment. There is certainly not a glut of new routes opening and indeed several are being cut and reduced. Most of the rail franchises are under performing and you only have to look at the East Coast Mainline going back into Government hands. Airport security measures, which are necessary, have clearly had an impact on the shorter domestic flights over the years. The whole transport infrastructure just isn't what it needs to be. Runway 3 at LHR and any future rail link from the North is a start but also still a long way off. I therefore wish Blackpool's potential new start up all the best because it ain't easy to get the numbers to add up in the long term - short term is easier. I also think airlines are all a bit blinkered and don't actually see potential when it's staring them in the face..........

I agree with you domestic travel isn't good, I reckon this subject could be debated under a thread for all the UK From the air point of view, we don't have the variety of airlines now with smaller aircraft linking up provincial cities. London air links have been slashed, by train to London is generally ok, but try taking a train across the country, often slow, expensive and short of carriages, ever tried to shoehorn your way onto a Cross Country service,

Many times. If you are lucky enough to get an HST then it's not too bad, but if you cop for a packed 4 car 220 then you are stuffed (literally and metaphorically), especially when one turns up on an Aberdeen-Penzance.

Assuming the 3rd runway ever gets built in our lifetime, the HS2 infrastructure could be such that a direct rail link to LHR might actually be quicker point-to-point and cheaper than connecting by air, especially from Manchester and Leeds and probably Newcastle as well.

Yep those four car sets Cross Country have are dreadful. I've done New Street to Oxford and Exeter , highly uncomfortable !

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
