Airport bosses are counting down to the much-anticipated return of direct air links between West Yorkshire and London.

And Bradford business leaders have welcomed the reinstatement of services which will resume with four daily flights operated between Leeds-Bradford International Airport (LBIA) and Heathrow from Sunday, December 9.

The axing of services between LBIA and Gatwick nearly two years ago left the region without an air link to the capital and was seen as a blow to the economy.

British Airways and Leeds-Bradford have launched a campaign to encourage businesses to use the new service, which will cost from £109 return, including taxes and fees. It will offer the only scheduled flights from Yorkshire to London and operate a convenient day- return schedule aimed at business and leisure passengers.

Bradford businesses gave a positive feedback to the move at last week’s Bradford Chamber of Commerce annual dinner, attended by 400 business chiefs, where BA and Leeds-Bradford International Airport were the headline sponsors.

LBIA commercial director Tony Hallwood said: “We realise that a thriving regional economy needs good air links to London and the South East and our aim is to make the price as competitive as possible, offering maximum benefit to the local business community who commute to the capital and beyond.”

Mike Cartwright, the Chamber’s policy executive, said: “This is an absolutely welcome development and one that we’ve been calling for since the demise of the previous service.

“It is necessary to help boost the Bradford and regional economies by opening up a new link to the capital and international markets.”

Do you need a passport to fly LBA-LHR or the reverse journey? Mine ran out earlier this year. I don't want to waste £80 or whatever for a renewal when I've no trips abroad planned, but am planning a trip to London early next year and want to fly there/back/or both.

This is a quote from the British Airways website: "When travelling wholly within the UK, there is no requirement from British Airways to carry any photographic identification."

Personally, I'd still have my driving license with me in my wallet though. Have a good trip

this is for masere.....you dont need a passport to fly within the uk. but some sort of photographic id is required, eig driving lic, student card etc.

Not according to information I have seen, provided by LBA themselves, which makes it clear than many of the flights are to be operated by A320 equipment. That was around 3 weeks ago. Has something changed since?

They'll only be A320 if there is a change to plan due tech etc. All plans are A319

Well if I remember correctly Airbus A319's G-DBCG, G-DBCH, G-DBCI, G-DBCJ & G-DBCK use to be the most regular visitors to Leeds/Bradford along with Airbus A320's G-MIDS & G-MIDK when bmi british midland operated the London-Heathrow route. Of course all these ex bmi aircraft operate out of T1 so are most likely to return very shortly....

My Bet goes to old time regular = G-DBCG

A B747 would be a great sight but that may happen as a one off. Look at Newcastle's 75th Anniversary, they flew in a B747 to mark the occasion. But back to guessing the aircraft, I would say G-DBCB.
