Virgin west coast have cancelled the lot. Virgin east Coast have a very limited service running https://www.virgintrainseastcoast.com/t ... el-alerts/

That is a very limited service. But worth noting they are No longer taking online reservations for these 2 days. Tuesday is going to be a nightmare for some going back to work. All the more reason to get them British Airways flights booked early as most one-way fares are already over £110 with very limited seats still available and also to a void the M1 motaway.

I am on BA1344 on Monday so will report the load - I would expect it to be full at this rate though.

Sorry, forgot to ask for a specific number on Monday, but BA1344 certainly had a good load - probably around 100.

The following press release has appeared on the LBA website today. Looks like British Airways London Heathrow route is about to beak another milestone.

http://www.leedsbradfordairport.co.uk/media/1818/28052015.pdf

PRESS RELEASE Issued: 28th May 2015

British Airways celebrates passenger milestone at Leeds Bradford® Airport

British Airways is marking the 30-month anniversary of flights from Leeds Bradford® Airport with the 300,000th
customer due to fly on the route to London Heathrow this week. Flights began in December 2012, and the
milestone figure demonstrates the commitment of Yorkshire customers to the only air link between Leeds
Bradford® and London.

As well as providing direct access to the capital, many business and leisure customers are taking advantage of
connections to more than 70 onward British Airways European and long haul destinations from the airline’s
flagship Terminal 5 home at Heathrow.

Leeds Bradford® Airport is also working with chambers of commerce in the Heathrow catchment area to promote
flying to Leeds and Yorkshire for a full business day meeting. A major campaign highlighting the benefits of flying
to Leeds, the retail and cultural capital of the north as well as the UK’s second centre for banking, will also be
rolled out over the summer.

Simon Lea, British Airways’ airport manager Leeds Bradford®, said: “Our customers have played their part in
supporting this vital air link which has also opened up the world from Yorkshire with a huge choice of onward
European and worldwide destinations and easy connections through our single terminal operation at Heathrow.”

The strength of the Yorkshire economy and the opportunities this presents in terms of inward investment and job
creation means the British Airways route continues to grow and in turn supporting the Northern powerhouse.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford® Airport’s aviation development director, commented: “This important
passenger milestone confirms the significant regional importance of British Airways’ flight link to and from
Heathrow Terminal 5. By providing convenient onward short and long haul connections businesses are now
increasingly using the British Airways services to connect to the world from the Leeds city region and Yorkshire.’

“We look forward to attracting more businesses in the Thames Valley, Surrey and West London regions to take
advantage of the convenience and attractive cost of flying to Leeds Bradford with British Airways for their
meetings. We also expect weekend leisure breaks to Leeds and Yorkshire will also take off this summer.’’
Ends

Intersting. Just checked and up to the end of April the route was at 295,978. I will be on BA1345 on Friday and BA1344 on Sunday so two chances to be the 300,000th. I wonder whether they will actually tell the passenger.

When total pax numbers are counted up, does a passenger who takes a return flight count as two passengers?

Yes.

Airports, airlines and the CAA always talk of total passenger numbers. A more accurate way would be to speak of passenger journeys.

For example, LBA handles over 3.3 million passengers a year. Most would make a return flight and a proportion would make several flights through the year. This means that there aren't 3.3 million individual people using the airport but probably something under half this number.

The same applies to every airport.

Good to know I was responsible for .00002% of this 300,000 total, every little helps.

You have prompted me to work out my own contribution, and up to the end of April I have been responsible for 0.014923%.

Actually looking at the figures again I think we went through 300,000 in April. I think my earlier figure of 295,978 missed out the first month in December 2012 when it started.

2012
December 5,580

2013
January 7,763
February 9,326
March 9,996
April 9,729
May 9,259
June 9,738
July 9,947
August 10,058
September 11,893
October 11,381
November 10,187
December 9,440
118,717

2014
January 8,642
February 9,305
March 9,269
April 11,673
May 11,354
June 11,593
July 12,448
August 11,905
September 13,696
October 11,617
November 10,298
December 10,525
132,325

2015
January 9,534
February 10,965
March 10,984
April 13,453
44,936

So up to the end of April we were at 301,558. I have even gone and re-checked my figures against the CAA website and the annual summaries for 2012-2014 and they are all correct.

Remarkable dedication KARFA :)

Thanks for your dedication and for using it regularly. Thanks to everyone who uses it in fact, be it once or weekly, you all help.

I think I have made 6 journeys / month since it commenced, it has been a marvellous addition to the LBA portfolio.

Doing nicely is our little 'slot sitter' ;-)

PS I just ran the figures and if you are responsible for 0.014923 of the journeys that's 4,477 flights in 30 months !?!

Thanks ridgeback. I haven't managed 4477 flights yet ;)

I have done 45 up to the end of April. So out of 301,558 total passengers from December 2012 to April 2014 I represent (45/301558)*100=0.01492%.

I have already clocked up another 5 in May, it will be another 2 this weekend. As you can see I am a fan of the service :)

Heathrow may ditch major UK routes if expansion plans not approved

"Heathrow is likely to ditch its domestic routes to Aberdeen, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Belfast and Newcastle if the the Airports Commission does not approve its expansion."

Lets hope there's a swift positive outcome from the Airports Commission. Whatever happens this has dragged on for far too long now.

That would be an absolute hammer blow for the UK regions. Just lengthen the North runway--that's the cheapest and least destructive option--and then work on from there.

Big delay on today's 1342/1343 as with everyone boarded on schedule the aircraft went tech and a replacement had to be found. The only one they cold find was still inbound from another station so the whole thing turned into quite a lengthy delay.

Flight was nice and busy which is good. Hope nobody was too badly affected.

Did someone say on this forum that BA were going to bring the Dreamliner into LBA this summer and land it this time? Sm sure I read it somewhere

There has been rumours around for a few months now, sure I read it somewhere on Facebook and either myself or someone else posted the said rumour on here.

Why have you heard something Moo2009?

Flew down on the morning shuttle Tuesday 16th connecting to Hamburg - I have to say the flight was probably 98% full with lots of connecting traffic and the premium check in well used. BA staff at LBA were policing hand baggage. Flight left on time and landed early with minimal arrival delay into LHR. Returned via Schipol - liked the City Hopper Embraer but found the staff pretty non plus. I have to say BA wins for me - superior level of service, much better staff but Schipol has the runway infrastructure for generally much more punctual flights!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
