I'm just the messenger, So don't shoot me down if it doesn't happen.

But big rumour going around that we will be seeing extra Ryanair's next summer 2018 season. Hopefully all should be revealed within next few weeks, so watch this space!

Well I'm not shooting you down because as you say, you are only the "messenger" ,but, this rumour seems to do the rounds nearly every year. Lets hope (fingers crossed) that this year the rumour comes true!

Sorry to go on....but chatting to a few of the North East passengers Darlington, Middlesbrough etc they were saying its only 20-25 mins longer for them to travel to LBA rather than NCL but the roads are a pig to LBA which we all know.....then a guy who lives in Castleford said he always flys from NCL as he can save 3-£400 on a family of 4 on flights flying from there and being in Cas its a doddle for him to drive up the A1 in an hour and 15mins where it takes him a min of 45 mins to LBA....

Is LBA really a pig to get to, especially from the North? When returning to Yeadon from the North we usually choose to come down the A1(M) turning off at the junction with the A658 leading straight to LBA.

My sister will happily spend an hour driving to Manchester airport from Castleford. She says Manchester is easier to get to than LBA. Strange theory considering it takes 30 minutes longer to get to Manchester airport from Castleford than to Leeds Bradford Airport. She also claims it's cheaper but will then pay £50-£60 for a hotel to stay overnight before flying. Again, it's interesting concept of saving money and time. I always time my journey time from Castleford back to Yeadon and more often than not takes around 30 minutes with average Leeds traffic, 30 minutes not the 45 minutes often claimed. Interestingly, family over on the dark side of the Pennines say it's cheaper to fly from LBA. Make of that what you will.

In any case, glad to see you using a local flight and at least Ryanair appears to be firmly committed to flying from LBA. I look forward to reading your Trip Report in our "Flight Review Forum" on your return.

Fingers crossed with LBAspotter's rumour.

Must be doing a good speed (Over the national Motorway speed limit) to do Castleford to Newcastle in 1 hour 15 mins? The distance works out at 104 miles going straight up the A1/A1(M) meaning the average speed would be somewhere between 80-85 miles per-hour

Offint: Needing special assistance we arrived at the Ryanair desk 3 hours before flight time as requested. Advised by airport staff, that the desk would not open for an hour, but nothing to stop us weighing our cases and handing in at a non Ryanair desk. This we did and were then sitting in the departure lounge and the next surprise, were advised, if we were sat in the dedicated special assistance area with 75 minutes to go, Ryanair staff would check out boarding cards/passport here, saving us and the staff being taken down to the gate.
Some sensible arrangements and finally obviously some thought gone in to these matters.

Ryanair's plan to operate 10x flights over the xmas and new years period starting this weekend and will operate as follows:

Malaga = Sun - Dec 17th & Jan 7th
Alicante = Sun - Dec 17th & Jan 7th
Riga = Tues - Dec 19th, 26th & Jan 2nd
Warsaw Modlin = Thu - Dec 21st, 28th & Jan 4th

So all 3 based units were despatch to Poland this morning, but don' appear to be coming back as per the LBA arrivals.

Am I missing something or have RYR let their Polish crew have an extended holiday in the homeland?

The Polish Threesome

They are all parked up non standard at LBA facing the anticipated strong winds over the Xmas period. There must have been a glitch with the airport fids system. As an aside, there is plenty of capacity in the Barnsley hotels for those last minute bookings, and you don't have to travel all the way to Gdansk Kraków or Warsaw to have a good time!!

Have a great festive time everyone.

Ryanair has applied for a U.K. aviation licence to fly domestic routes within the U.K., will be interested to see what response the CAA gives the company after its blitz of cancellation on these routes and the issues with pilot rosters.
They certainly wont be able to hide under their E.U. badge. The CAA was shown to be toothless and inept in its dealing with Monarch, can it show it teeth with Ryanair?
This badly managed quango could have greater responsibility after Brexit, with the inept EASA not something I would wish for. Dame Deidre Hutton is known as the "queen of the Quango's" and this is not a said as a complement, this quango certainly needs to go on the bonfire.

It won't be to just operate domestic routes. The UK is a massive market for Ryanair not too mention that it probably has nearly 80 to 100 aircraft as well as training engineering and back office facilities based here. It also means that by having a UK and EU airline they'll continue to have a voice in both camps.
In the end it's a sound business decision to prepare for Brexit.

The only need UK AOC for the 3x aircraft that operate its domestic routes from London Stansted to Belfast Int, Edinburgh & Glasgow.

Its not a really big ask becasue is not as if Ryanair haven't had one before. They held an UK AOC on acquiring low cost airline Buzz from KLM/Air France Group after they closed the KLM UK (ex Air UK) division down?

Just posting here in Ryanair. I watched todays landing at 14:40 from Malta. Normal landing but didn' look to slow down. It used the entire length of runway and stopped straight on just by graveyard. Furthest ever seen a planew stop. It was using full thrust. Heavy braking and full flaps. Think they were lucky to stop!! It the turned on a six pence and went into the loop. If I was onboard I would have expected to see the main road/tunnel as a stopping point! Not just past the viewing point!

There could have been many factors as to why it took so long to slow down, the pilots might have decided not to use full breaking and instead make use of the runway, obviously this might be unlikely as you said it heavy breaked, another could of been the aircraft touched down late or the runway surface was wet resulting in poorer performance on landing compared to dry a runway. There’s so many factors which could contribute to it but it’s normal for an aircraft to use the full runway when needs must, take the 757s they like to make full use of it .

I hope this gives an idea and helps in some way, also I might cheeky, and if it’s not been done already, beat Aviador into welcoming you to the forum :)

OK. Thanks. I live in yeadon and seen many landings and have landed myself many times. He was still breaking heavy past the loop til the very end of runway by otherside of the loop. Touch down was normal. Slightly wet. Maybe he was overweight! Either way I would have known if onboard how close it was. He couldn't move any further foward on the runway!

Sound like a miss judgment by the crew ! Unlikely it was over weight as the landing weight is recorded by the on board computer which would lead to tea and biscuits with the chief pilot.
We will never know what happened so pointless speculating just glad it ended well. Worst I have ever seen was the B767 of the Thai company Business Air one morning when he touched down at the junction of the taxiway N and runway 32.
I have no idea how he stopped

As many will know, I often go up to LBA with my camera and whilst most aircraft do tend to stop before they reach the loop, I have seen a number of 757s and 737 800's, including Ryanair and Jet2, continue braking and run almost to the end. However, I have yet to see one where it appeared that the aircraft was struggling to stop - they always appear to be fully in control and just choosing to use the full length for whatever reason.

I understand the could still be more to come! Hence might be reason David Laws has been dropping hints in past few days regards 1 or 2 things might happening this year.

All I will add is that Montpellier is still showing on the website, But no flights are bookable yet. Also Ryanair's, LBA Summer 2017 programme was not finalised until mid February last year...

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
