Ryanair launches Leeds Bradford® Airport Summer 2016 Schedule

Tuesday 8th December 2015: Ryanair has launched its Leeds Bradford® Summer 2016 flight schedule with a total of 20 routes across 9 countries. Additional flight frequency on 4 routes will be introduced to meet increased passenger demand from LBA®.

Ryanair’s Leeds Bradford® Summer 2016 schedule will deliver more flights to Alicante (increased to 6 weekly), Gdansk (increased to 4 weekly), Palma (daily) and Pisa (2 weekly) operating 73 weekly flights during the peak season.
In total Ryanair are on target to deliver 1 million passengers over the next 12 months supporting 750* “on-site” jobs at Leeds Bradford® Airport.

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford® Airport’s Aviation Development Director commented:
"The increases in flight frequencies introduced by Ryanair for summer 2016 are welcomed to reflect increased demand for flights from Leeds Bradford® Airport. With earlier start dates and additional peak season capacity on a number of routes there is now additional choice for both leisure and business travellers. Alongside the enhanced range of customer service improvements now on offer by Ryanair there has never been a better time to fly from Leeds Bradford® Airport."

Thats 2 days of announcements from LBA. I wonder what Tomorrow, Thursday and Friday will bring. Thats if we are on a roll?

Prodicting 1 million passenger 2016, anyone know the increase on this year?

I believe that they operated 70 return flights in the peak this summer, so possibly 1/2 extra flights ("over 70" return flights announced for 2016)

Any increase is to be welcomed.
Great to hear from White Heather that the airport passengers increased 5% over the summer months, even taking in to account, Tunisia and before that Sharm El Sheikh.
With a number of Greek island suffering a tourist decline due to refugees and Turkey likely to be the next flash point, it is going to cause pressure on the popular Spanish resorts next year, it will be a struggle to maintain this years figures.
A friend was flying to Sharm this week and Thomsons found it impossible to find him an alternative sunshine holiday and in the end he had to fly out two weeks earlier then planned, fortunately as retired it did not cause him an issue, if he had not been able to move his dates, Thomsons would have had to refund.
Thomsons were not prepared to move the booking to January although they are to look to resume flights in the new year.

The January flights may already be full or, it is not 100% certain that the flights will operate and they would have to be rebooked again.

Peak summer 2016 Ryanair will be operating up to 74 weekly flights. Here's the weekly schedule for August.

Can you explain the W-legs, I always thought a W Leg was when an aircraft based at one station for eg: LBA flew to a destination, then went elsewhere from that station before flying back and eventually returning to its base. Thomson have done it previously with the LBA crew getting off at EMA and coming back to LBA.

I was trying to work out the timings for a W-route Tenerife as posted above but here was no way that kind of pattern could work and it would be an epic duty for the crew lol.

So just to clarify - the TFS isnt a W route is it? The crew are just doing LBA-TFS-LBA?? Is it an aircraft change???

The W leg is where the aircraft and crew based in, at this case LBA will operate LBA-IBZ and then operate IBZ-MRS-IBZ using the LBA based aircraft before then operating back to LBA from IBZ :)

No LBA-TFS-LBA is just your normal 2 sector 'flight', think of it of being like A-B-C-B-A as opposed to A-B-A or A-B-A-C-A if it's a 4 sector

I guessing you was talking about this Tuesday rotation "Imagineif"? FR2484 = LBA 07:20 – TSF 10:35 / FR2485 = TSF 15:05 – LBA 16:25 (W-Legs TSF-EIN-TSF)
Just to clarify TSF is the ICAO code for Venice Treviso where as Tenerife South code is TFS which I agree are very similar.

So the aircraft will fly Leeds to Venice and then operate Venice to Edindhoven. After that it will the operate the returning 2 sectors as follows Edindhoven to Venice and finally Venice back to Leeds. The Leeds based crews will operate all 4 sectors.

Ahhhhh thanks Lbaspotter - I have just misread the airport code. I was going to say, my understanding of a W-route was right but how could it possibly work on a Tenerife lol! Yes a Venice makes much more sense haha!

There is a lot of speculation on the dried fruit forum that Ryanair might announce a new route to Leeds-Bradford from its new Belfast base (Unknown if it's City or International Airport at this time) this coming Thursday.

So it might be one press conference to watch out for!

I know Flybe has served BHD for sometime in one form or another but Ryanair is building up trust with LBA passengers particularly for it's reliability. I for one would be delighted to see Ryanair serving Belfast. It would certainly bolster passenger numbers.

I would welcome this in theory, but......Ryanair would be unlikely to operate multiple flights each way each day as Flybe do, so are less likely to appeal to some business passengers. We don't want to get Ryanair once or twice a day and lose a 4 times a day service, but it seems unlikely that Flybe could maintain 4 times a day with Ryanair in competition. We could end up with only a couple with Ryanair and similar from Flybe. So my concern is simply that Ryanair don't fully commit to the route but do just enough to kill off Flybe, leaving less flights, less choice and ultimately, less passengers than before. I think it is one of those that could go either way - if it happens.

Does Belfast City now have the capability to take a full 737 800? I don't keep that up to date on other airports and I know that originally they were very limited in that regard. No doubt they have stretched their runway since?

The 737-800 can operate into BHD at 1829 metres in length. Similarly to LBA in that it's not so much the type, it's the range from a relatively short runway. Also worth a mention is BHD has a movement restriction and I think the airport is close to reaching this limit. My thoughts on the matter is it is likely to be the international airport that sees Ryanair establish a base rather than the city airport.

That's as good as confirmed! I'm please Ryanair will be serving Belfast from LBA. They are cheap and more importantly they offer reliability Flybe can't match. As White Heather has said though, let just hope they can offer a decent service not just a daily option. A twice or thrice service would be preferable.

Interesting! Appears to be Belfast International which Ryanair are looking to serve. With Belfast being one of the most robust and popular domestic routes from LBA over the past few decades, I'm confident it can take Ryanair jumping in without Flybe running away. Even if Flybe numbers take a hit, I can still see something on the lines of a 2 x daily Ryanair and 3 x weekday Flybe service working just fine, a bit like when Jet2 used to fly to BFS.

Well sorry to dissapoint

Ryanair have today announced that it will be setting up a new base at Belfast International Airport. From March the airline will base 1x aircraft at Belfast Int'l operating a 4X daily service to London Gatwick. (Slots acquired from IAG as part of take over deal of Aer Lingus) From October 2016 the base will increase to 3x based aircraft with 5 unnamed routes to be introduced.

So still no sign or confirmation of a link been introduced between Belfast and Leeds/Bradford, and looks like the Irish press might have been reading the rumours posted on the Dried Fruit Forum..

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
