It always amazes me how quiet that beast is, wonderful stuff.
They are extremely quiet, both from the outside and to fly in. When Emirates was using the A380, it would pass over my house at around 25,000ft. I could not hear it from inside the house (same for B787's). The B777's currently in use, I can quite easily hear them from inside the house.

I only usually get approach traffic to Honily and R33 and this is RYANAIR stuff from Espania etc. but sometimes the Antonov goes over on a departure and my Peggy ( now sadly departed RIP ) would go mental at the noise. A true aircraft if ever there was!

Living only about 4 miles under approach to runway 23 at MAN they seem very loud especially when using 05 for takeoff and very low climb rate often at only 1300 to 1500ft

We've flown on a747 a fabulous aeroplanes with BA to NYC and Miami and also with Qantas to Sydney. My wife who doesn't know one end of an aircraft from the other commented we were on a jumbo the only time she has ever known what we were on.
She has just come back from long weekend in Majorca I asked what aircraft she had flown on back came the answer "a Jet2" - hopeless case.

Couple of recent vids. First tricky conditions on runway 15 last Wednesday morning, second an amazing tiny jet visitor Sunday before last. Has there ever been a smaller jet on the tarmac at BHX? This M-345 is about 3/4 the size of the BAE Hawk used by Red Arrows though bigger than the Gnat they had decades ago. Gary

Yes, the Folland Gnat is smaller than the M-345

Aermacchi M-345
Length: 9.85 m
Wingspan: 8.47 m

Folland Gnat
Length: 8.74 m
Wingspan: 6.73 m

Has the Gnat ever visited BHX? Certainly, over the years the Red Arrows have based at BHX for a weekend, so it's quite possible.

I'm not sure if this has been posted previously -

But, it comes from a time when "Men were real Men, Aeroplanes were real Aeroplanes and Small Furry Creatures from Alpha Centauri were real Small Furry Creatures from Alpha Centauri"

Paraphrasing the great Douglas Adams from 'The Hitchhickers Guide to the Galaxy'.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
