Due to the CAA decision on the 737 MAX8 today's Turkish Airlines flight turned around overhead Germany and headed back to Istanbul. The aircraft was TC-LCD.

With the ban placed upon the MAX, will TUI and others be consolidating flights with larger equipment to return booked passengers? Some interesting leases possible? Turkish may deploy A330 perhaps or B739?

Turkish have 11 Max8 and 1 Max9 so there should be little disruption; perhaps we might see a standard 737 or A321 operate a delayed flight later this evening or one of tomorrow’s flights might be upgraded. That’s the beauty of TKs fleet, they can’t pretty much send what they want when they want.

A330 tomorrow

Max only flying in North and part of South America and small area of Asia. Boeing should issue advice to ground them all. If another one crashes or has a similar technical problem Boeing will regret not acting. Hopefully all the national Aviation authorities will ground them. Lives matter more than earnings and profit.

Turkish Airlines has decided to take the 737 MAX out of service pending the investigation into the recent Ethiopian accident.

Like to know how the crew explained that to the passengers. How do you say we are turning back because the aircraft you are flying
in is considered by the UK authorities to be unsafe. Tough one.

saw a clip on the news, and they spoke to a passenger on one of the flights that returned to Istanbul, the pilot said that 'UK airspace was closed", and then said "due to bad weather!"

I suppose they didn't want to alarm the passengers.

It seems as if all of the MAX variants have now been grounded.

The Turkish website still shows 14x weekly but it also shows the afternoon flight as a MAX9 from May, so I guess it's just a wait and see.

I wouldn't be unduly worried about the route not having the planned increase. I'm not fully up to date on the induction of the MAX fleet into TK but if they are replacing some earlier 737 models with them, there is always the possibility of them postponing the retirement of the older aircraft pending restrictions on MAX flying being lifted.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
