Having "followed" the airline industry for 50 years you realise that there is expansion and contraction, but the overall trend is expansion.
Compare 2018 pax figures with 1968 (probably before most members had been born) and it will be at least 10 fold greater.

Imagine all the work involved for Turkish Airlines to move all aircraft (they have 292!!), ground equipment etc.. from the old airport to the new! A few of the grounded 737 Maxs have already been moved, flight time of 7 minutes between the airports!

Can you imagine all the ground equipment being driven in convoy between the airports too!! Huge logistic operations, would be quite a sight seen planes and equipment be moved! No wonder a few flights are being cancelled!

Interesting thought Matt. Do they do that or just simply take the move as the opportunity to buy new?

Hopefully minimal disruption for all routes.

It's like Munich Riem closing overnight with all equipment going to Munich Frank Jozef Strauss

"During the night of 16 to 17 May 1992, operations moved to the new Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport near Freising. The IATA airport code MUC and the ICAO airport code EDDM also moved to the new airfield. The last aircraft (Lufthansa Boeing 737 D-ABJD 'Freising') left the old airport at 22:55 of 16 May 1992. "

and imagine if the UK tried to build an airport like this? it would take about 20 years to get planning consent, and then another 20 years to build, at about 20 times the cost!!!
Maybe that's a good thing for all the UK airports that aren't Heathrow? :)

I believe that stretch of M5 is a very difficult job because of all the work below the carriageway.
Istanbul is somewhat different due to that the Turkish just build and then ask questions after

Apparently so.The contractors must love that. We are working very hard just a shame you cannot see us.
Should have been finished now but signs say next Autumn.September?November? who knows.
Obviously if we have a cold/hot/wet or dry summer completion date will go back.
I believe it was originally built quicker 40 years ago

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
